But this leads me to think that MTV may not be giving this video a second thought because it has valuable and worthwhile musical and creative content, but just because they think people will watch it because it has a hot chick in it. Is Jewel conscious of things like this? She knows she's attractive, is she now using this to try to get ahead? I don't think so, and I certainly hope not, but it's just something that came into my head after watching the video. And by the way, how lucky is that guy in the video? And I still think YWMFM is one of the album's weakest and most cliched songs, but at least it isn't radio-friendly as I'm sure some of the stuff off the new album will be. And at least the new album got pushed back a little so the mainstream can't just launch a new single as a follow up to WWSYS. So, don't exploit yourself Jewel(I don't think you are, at least consciously anyway) and try not to let them(MTV, Z100 in NY, etc etc) exploit you either. They're called Sister 7, from Austin TX, and they're kind of funky, a little bluesy and quite melodic. They have two indie CD's under the name Little Sister, and have recently been signed to Arista records with their debut scheduled for the first part of 97. The reason I post this is I just got tour dates for November/December, and I'm thrilled to see they're coming close to me and touring outside of their usual Texas spots. My posts about the list and NJC/JC and other such things tend to be very onesided and demanding. I am not the sole proprietor of this list. Thank god about that. I can only reflect my own opinions, and I don't even do that very well. By the way, I don't think that I've ever referred to myself as an "angel," so that automatically discludes me from the "bad" angel category, doesn't it? ;) I think that I would like to point out something. Perhaps clarify myself. I really don't care about the headers. NJC/JC. I'm sure that there are people who welcome them. THey really don't affect me. It's the content of letters that i take an interest in. I've noticed that there is no one uniform ideal for what is JC and NJC. People post stuff that can be linked to Jewel (boot requests, lyric requests, discussion about the list, stories that are inspired by Jewel) and say that they are NJC. As some people have pointed out, how much more JC can you get without talking about Jewel herself. I am a supporter of people posting stuff to the list that promotes the growth and community of the list. I am not a "only talk about Jewel or her music and that's it" kind of person. I do like posts and threads to have some sort of connection to Jewel, but I also like posts that let us bond and appreciate each other like friends. Someone posting about how a family member has died or a pet, or someone having fun (like Dennis) posting weird stuff, or people writing poetry- that kind of stuff is Jewel content in my eyes because the list spawned from an admiration of her and her works, how they touched the members, how she and we are human; and personal revelation between us is connected to Jewel. Crud. DOn't you hate it when you have lots to say and you know where you want to go, but you can't articulate it all and then you forget what it was that you wanted to say? AS far as people worrying about sending stuff that will offend others or worrying about violating NJC stuff (which by the way is arbitrary and self-imposed "censorship" that the user should feel free to use and not burdened to use), think of what goes on with the list as an almost conversation, or a dialog, or a whole bunch of monologes that refer to each other, among friends. Well, the list is kinda like a Jewel "clubhouse" that is open to everyone who shares an interest in Jewel. we gather to share conversation and to get to know more about Jewel and, I hope, to get to know each other well. If someone brings up a left-field subject and someone else can relate to it but it does not seem to have an effect on the running of the clubhouse or any of its members, those two should take their bonding conversation outside of the club in private and not take over the clubhouse discussions where it's just those two talking about their topic and everyone else is trying to work around them. Does that make sense? When you talk with your own friends, there are subjects you bring up that are acceptable, and there are those that aren't, all according to the situation and environment, right? So you check what you say, especially if you feel that it isn't the right time or place to talk about the subject. Same way with the list. Maybe it takes time to get the feel for it, maybe you have to get into the rhythm of things with the list, but I think that people can feel when what they have to say is "appropriate" for the conversations and when what they have to say would not really be "necessary." Geez louise, I feel like some preacher interpreting non-existant scripture:P Wouldn't it be wonderful if there were some sort of established Online Constitution (very general, of course) that would delineate guidelines for proper netiquette (haven't seen that in a long time) and courtesy. THen you could point out to someone "Look, amendment 4, section 16, article 2.5: there shall be no discussion of how HOT Barney the Dinosaur is on any mailing list unless that mailing list is devoted to Barney the Stud." Then again, that would suck:) Paul "you can't do this to me! I'm rich!"
