Hey all you EDAs, Well I've been lurking in the shadows for awhile now, too many tests! too many tests! hehe and I decided to come back to the fray for as long as I can. First off welcome to all the new people, normally I would send out to individuals but there has been so many of you since I've been lurking that that is hard to do. Next big hugs to Rachelle and Selena for missing me, I'm back! Welcome back Paul, withdrawl sucks don't cha know Still have yet to see YWMFM on the tube, oh it sooo sucks Saturday night IRC Jewel chats are growing, though last time few had good connections, like Selena, lagging is something AOL doesn't have. Very nice to see more people there, and if anyone wants to talk to me I'm usually IRCing around 10pm EST (nick=Purple21). Fuzzy is doing fine, he's been bouncing around the room since I got my JS tapes...hehe Not much new Jewel news...hey its been slow Toni Dunn news though, well not really, just saw another young lady with green hair that made me think of you. What you said to me still makes me feel good.. So happy that everything is working out for you, who knows maybe in the future there will be a Toni Dunn list or one for your band and everyone will know what you have been eating soup or burritos, and if you smoke or not, and of course the heated debate over whether we like you because of your music or you looks (old list jokes hehehe). I'm on a bootlegging kick right now so if anyone wants tapes or wants to trade write me, Eric I'll get yours done soon, what was it that you wanted? Anyone else send me request that I havn't responded to? My mailbox has a bad habit of eating the inbox everyonce in awhile. Well till something new happens I'll be back in the shadows watching over the list, writing poems and stories and talking to all the lovely EDAs. take care all of you angels, cause remember no matter what happens to you someone cares, Robb ps...hmmm is that all I wanted to say.... I see that they are not on Adam's site, which may or may not be because nobody can figure them out. The recording for the song on Innerchange days is not very good, at least on my set anyway. Semi-newbie taliesin here temporarily de-lurking (well, not that I WANT to lurk, but I have SUCH little time these days...) to propose a solution to the problem of for-profit bootleg cd's and tapes, at least as far as Jewel is concerned... Bootlegging is a reality in the music busisness, there can be no doubt of that. So long as there are artists out there with devoted fans, there will always be a market for bootleg tapes and cd's. I don't really mind them, but I *DO* grow tired of the outrageous prices charged by the pro-bootleggers. $10-$15 for a dubbed tape is too expensive, period. And $30 for a cd? Ugh....... That aside, I'll admit that I have bought some. I trade whenever I can, but there are sometimes that I have to resort to the commercial route to fill holes in my collection (I'm trying to get a recording of every era of Fleetwood mac live, but I'm having trounbles finding something from the Penguin tour, even for sale...:( ). Well, some friends of mine and I have come up with a way of fighting the high prices of boots...and it's one that could work to decrease or even eliminate the market for commercial Jewel boots. We got the idea from Frank Zappa. Frank was bootlegged mercilessly, so he decided to fight back by re-releasing bootleggs with him on them on his own label, Barking Pumpkin. He charged $10 per cd. people flocked to buy them, and ther markety for Zappa bootleggs practically dried up (except video, which is another matter). So what my friends and I do is take turns buying boots by our favourite artists and then taping them for free for anyone who wants one. Sure, the evil bootleggers make one sale, but they lose anywhere from 10 to 50 sales in the short run, even more as the free dubs slowly spread. (What does the initial person get for their money? Well, the best copy, for one....great if it's a cd. Also, we tend to put that person top on the recipient list for the next boot. Sometimes we even kick in some cash to offset the initial cost, though I don't think that's practical here.) So, what I propose is: if anyone obtains a Jewel boot (I'm not condoning buying one, but I know some out there will anyway), set up some branches and dub it for free. I know that this is going on on some levels anyway, but let's ALL keep an eye out for stuff. And if you can get the boot without paying for it (trades, etc) even better. Jewel is so cool about fan tape trading, let's help her out by drying up the for-profit boot market for jewel stuff. ALSO: I like to pass time by coming up with interesting j-cards for my dubbed tapes. A lot of my friends seem to like my designs. If anyone wants a j-card designed for their Jewel tapes, I'd be glad to do so. I figured I'd drop a line to say hello. I've been on the net for over a year now, and am a veteran of the Old Ways and FTE lists. I just discovered how wonderful Jewel is in a rather interesting way. I had heard WWSYS on the radio, but have limited funds for new cd's. I teach electric bass in an Akron music store, and one of my students (a junior alternative punk doooode) had gotten the Piec3es of You cd by mistake from a relative (one who watched MTV to get an idea of what was "hip", and somehow dialed in for the 10 minutes of music they were playing for the day). Well, the litttle Green Day fanatic didn't like it (he said it was too soft), and I offered to trade my copy of "The Spaghetti Incident" by Guns N' Roses for it. He agreed!!!! Well, I LOVE the album. Jewel reminds me of a young Joni Mitchell, another of my all time favourites. Other musical fav's are: Tori, Loreena McKennitt, Sarah McLachlan, Iron Maiden, Barry Manilow, Clannad, Yngwie J. Malmsteen, Vivaldi, Renaissance, Type O Negative, Frank Sinatra, Kiss, Victoria Williams, Bruce Springsteen, Juliana Hatfield........the list goes on and on, really. I am a musician myself, and my band, Balefire, has a tape out. We're almost out of the limited edition run, but should be going to the tape duplicators soon to run the new cover. The band is: Taliesin Athor Govannon (me!) on guitar and vocals, and Willowe Starling (my love) on keys. Other interests include: Witchcraft (trad Craft), reading (anything and everything), classic horror movies (especially silent ones), world religions, cooking, camping, anything to do with creating music, writing fiction, and.....anything to do with my beloved. :) Now, is there any veteran Jewel-list person who could explain the list basic's to me? I read the FAQ for Jewel stuff, but I was wondering about these "branches" and the like. Thanks. Jay, i don't think the NJC/JC/RSS debate will ever go away. You know why it seems that the debate died? Because the people who wanted less NJC didn't want to waste their time or other peoples' time flaming each other while those who contributed to NJC and liked it were the ones who didn't give a fig about wasting other peoples' time so their viewpoint was seen more than the others.
