AudioNet..and stuff ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: ABershaw@aol.com Date: Fri, 11 Oct 1996 13:49:48 -0400 Subject: latest 3 JS TAPE Questions Answered Hi All, Many people have written me inquiring about: #1"Where on the JS Tapes is the part where Jewel mentioned proposed album titles?" This occurred during the electric set on the 1st night & therefore is not included on these tapes. 2. "Is the WDST BBQ complete?" All the songs are there. I had to delete some of the pre-song intros for it to fit on side 6. It literally runs within seconds of the end of the tape, so on some copies, Chime Bells may be cut or faded. #3 And in many configurations:"Whats the story on the 4th tape?" At this point, we are unsure if it will happen for sure. A bunch of things remain to be seen. If this "experiment" proves that this can actually be done without bootleggers profiting illegally, it'll be much more likely. It's a lot to expect, but thats part of the magic of this gift. We actually think it might be possible because of the great nature of this list. That is why it's really up to everyone to protect your tapes from bad possiblities. I'm still privately getting some negative feedback about this aspect of the JS tapes. It was in the original instructions & I only brought it up for one reason only----So we can ALL do this again. There are tentative plans to include both electric sets & possibly something else. If it happens, we'll certainly try to make it SMALLER but just as special. The earliest, I see this happening is Feb/March 97. 4. "Where is that Olympic Parody from?" First, I never mentioned that this was donated by Mike Connell, who I think got it off a CD of current (at that time), syndicated parodies distributed to radio stations during the same week as Jewelstock. So, I thought it would be fun to include a short comedy (Rosie show & Parody) "intermission" between the 2 shows. Rosie happened the day before(so was timely), and with the parody ,it worked out nicely to fill side 3. Anybody actually Karioke yet to the instrumental? :-) I'm happy to hear that the tapes are moving like a big wave now. I've enjoyed almost every note I've recieved! Any (non-request) technical questions about the tapes welcome. MrBB (Alan) ------------------------------ From: Shawn Hanson Date: Fri, 11 Oct 1996 11:26:21 -0700 Subject: Jewel's Mailing list... Howdy. I really hope this is the correct address for the list. I subscribed months ago, and haven't been able to keep up with everything. I recently attended Jewel's concert at the "Big Fresno Fair". It was great! Of course, it was the first one I had been to. Just wish I could've actually met Jewel. yeesh. :) Naturally, I had to travel 6.5 hours to see the concert, though I had been in Fresno since the previous Saturday(to see my girlfriend). Oh goodness. I guess I don't have anything important to say; however, I'm just glad I was able to see her perform live. By the way, can anyone e-mail me the time at which the little "Internet" concert thing will be? I'm on the West coast, if that helps to give me a time and all. Well, yesterday, 10/10/96, I attended my very first Jewel Concert up at the University of Florida in Gainesville. In fact, this was my very first concert ever in my almost nineteen years of existence. I’m just gonna relate the events of my day. It was probably one of the best nights i can remember. Karl M Fields and I drove up there from Orlando, left at about 12:30, got there about 2:30. Karl’s a real cool guy, we listened on the way up to the Boston show and some Eleanor McEvoy and some Duncan Sheik. We hung out with some of his friends in their dorm room, and then it was 5:30. Show was scheduled to start at six. So we moseyed on over to this big grassy field, in front of the Bandshell, where she was supposed to perform. Her opening acts were Big White Undies, and Stir. So, well, we got there, each in our Jewelstock tee-shirts and just waited. At 7:30, after an hour and a half of screwing around with the sound and stage equipment, BWU came on stage and sang two songs. And then Stir came on and sang a few guitar-driven hard rock tunes. Both groups i respect musically, but, well, they didn’t do anything for me. I’ll admit at this point i was thinking, oh man, this was a mistake and we’d get home at like 3 in the morning because everything was taking a ton of time and Karl had a Calc test and i had a paper due. But, well, then after Stir left the stage, most everyone i could see stood up and rushed to the front of the stage for that one upcoming performer. So, well we did the same, and were mucho close to it and the speakers. I keep mentioning the speakers because, well, as a concert-virgin, i didn’t think it would be as mind-wracking loud as it was. Perhaps i wouldn’t have noticed if i would have actually cared about the first two bands. I didn’t care for Jewel, because well that mattered tons to me. So, well there was tons of cheering and shouting and catcalls and all, when she came out on stage at around 8:30, if i can remember correctly. At this point, i lost all sense of time and all, i was completely entranced throughout her performance. All i can say is Wow. See, this was new to me, and this was a big deal to me, because, well, everything became real, i mean, this list, and Jewel in general. I finally understood what you all talked about after seeing her live. She was incredible, she worked the crowd really well and they were wrapped around her finger, for the most part. Here’s the setlist that Karl and I wrote down at Burger King following the show. I know there’s some errors; neither of us have a good memory, and i was completely bown away by the whole thing, so well, here’s what we remember in somewhat an accurate fashion: Pieces of You (with the whole Jewel fans/lighters/Bon Jovi concert story) Little Sister Fading Away (i’m not sure if this is the correct title) (I think her band came out for this) Sometimes It Be That Way (completely rocked, as i imagined it would) Satellite (very cool, i wonder if everyone, when they hear this song, thinks of Sinjin) Morning Song Foolish Games You Were Meant for Me (with the marijuana/Steve/federales story) Near You Always Cold Song Angel Standing By Chime Bells Who Will Save Your Soul (encore) Like i said, this is probably in the wrong order somewhere, and i’m probably missing something. It’s hard to concentrate after seeing her live. She was really great with the crowd and the soundboard guy, whom she teased and messed around with when something wasn’t working right, and well, the crowd was putty in her hands, and well i couldn’t help but smile through the whole thing. Heh heh it was funny because as far as i could tell, absolutely no one, at least around me, wanted her to yodel. I figured that that’s all the whole crowd would want and expect, but i was wrong. So, well, she said something to the effect of hey, you all want me to yodel, or something, and well, during Chime Bells the entire crowd was mesmerized by her. It was exceptionally awesome. Her band was really good too. I can’t ever remember their names, so someone let me know again. I had no idea she moves her left leg so much. It’s really cool how she gets into her songs like that. So, well, the concert ended. I was blown away, like i said, it was the coolest thing for me to finally see her. Now it’s like a must-do, i gotta see her again and again and again. Karl said he feels exactly the same way. I know all you do too. Where were all the EDAs? I had figured to see someone, anyone, especially with us being so easily recognizable in our JS shirts. But, alas, i didn’t see anyone from here. I saw two people in I’m Sensitive shirts, who might’ve been on here, but i don’t know. Maybe not. Well, after the concert ended, lots of people waited around to see her, talk to her, get autographs, get their picture taken with her, etc. Karl and I walked all around trying to find out where the best place to wait would be. Then we put ourselves right in front of the fence in the front with some other people. No luck, no sight of her. Then Karl had a stroke of brilliance and we rushed around to the other side, in the back, where there was another fence. And there she was, behind the stage, just sitting and talking and smiling and signing and taking pictures. Everyone was yelling out to her, she couldn’t accomodate everyone, because well that’s impossible, so she did really good and was really patient for those backstage who went up to her. We had no idea how to get backstage passes. But, well, that’s okay. So anyways, with all these demands being placed on her, we kept quiet. Karl decided to take off his JS shirt and hold it up against the fence, which was sheer ingenuity, and i did the same. Everytime she almost looked over, and i was like, come on, just a little glance, just a small look in this direction. We were also too shy (yeah, i know i know) to yell out at her. She mainly focused on talking with the people backstage and correctly ignored the crazed people outside the fence, where we were. But we were not crazed, of course. So, well, anyways, she got up and was about to leave, and i had to do something, and so i yelled out "Jewel, Everyday Angels love you!!!!!!" And so she turned, and was sorta surprised, and then flashed this radiant smile and said, "Hey, guys, thanks!!!!" Ack!!!! That was sooooo cool. And then some guy next to us asked her to come over so he could climb the fence and take a picture of her, and well, she had mostly not paid attention to the people outside the fence, but, well she did this time, and came over and was soo close to us. I would like to think that she came over because, well, we made her comfortable, being EDAs, and all. So, well, of course, we could not think of anything intelligent to say at that point. We just sorta stared. I wonder if maybe she came over for that guy expecting us to say something. But, ack, we couldn’t. We were tongue-tied, i know you all know the feeling. And well, then she left, and i said again, because i could not think of anything else i was so completely stupid, We Love You, kinda softly, and then she turned again and beamed again. And then my life was complete. We were tickled pink, Karl and I. Karl’s seen her twice before. He says everytime is so fabulous. I would imagine so. She actually knows that I exist. Sorta. :) Wow. I can’t wait to see her again. It sucks, because like after the fact we always think of cool things to say, like i could have mentioned her new video, or asked about her mom, or something. Just like during thes show i wanted to request Train Song, or Fragile Flame or Deep Water, but i didn’t think i’d be heard and plus well my personality or whatever wouldn’t allow it. I’m just overwhelmed by the whole experience. It was sooo cool. :) :) :) I’m sure you all felt the same way after your first Jewel experience. So, thanks Jewel, for doing the show and for making me feel terrific. You’re the best. :) ------------------------------ From: SDFAngel@aol.com Date: Fri, 11 Oct 1996 18:00:06 -0400 Subject: Fwd: Jewel CDs Stu just got back to me with confirmations on a few of these CDs.
