Hello folks, We last night I came up with a brilliant idea. Fresh off the high of listening to my newly obtained Jewelstock tapes, Radio Angels, and KROQ LA show, I decide that I should bring POY into school and let my friends listen to Jewel in our student lounge, where I spend about 3 hours on Thursdays. It started great. Before I even put POY in, a couple of guys said "You got the Jewel CD?!?!?! Put it in." So of course I gladly obliged. Well they insisted on listening to WWSYS over and over again ( I must have heard it twenty times today). They didn't like any of the other songs but I figured oh well its a start anyway. Later on a girl came in who loved the song "Near You Always" so I put on that track. While I was listening to it I heard someone say from behind me in a disgusted voice "Who is that, Alanis Morisette." This is how the conversation went... Me - "No thats not Alanis, Its Jewel. They sound nothing alike." Andy - "Who cares? there all the same anyway. You like this music? What are you, a faggot? You must be a faggot to like this. Shes just like Alanis, all those female singers are lesbians anyway." Now I am not going to describe how the rest of this encounter went because I know that there are some young members in this list and they do need to see it, but Im sure you can all imagine, even not knowing me, what kind of reaction I had. Why are people like that? Does stuff like this happen to other angels? or does it only happen to me because I go to a hick school? I am a senior and so is Andy. By then you'd think that people would have achieved some kind of inteligence and maturity. I guess not. At least there were a few girls there who were really into it. I guess the general consensus is that guys aren't aloud to listen to music that is in anyway emotional. Because those who do are faggots. Boy am I glad I learned that lesson today. :( - -Floyd ------------------------------ From: "Hall, Gordon A" Date: Thu, 10 Oct 1996 16:10:59 -0500 Subject: NJCbirthdays well my birthday isn't for a while but I think it's cool that the alleged release date for the new album (Jan. 21) and my birthday are the same day flash ------------------------------ From: telliamed@juno.com (Pat Brown) Date: Thu, 10 Oct 1996 16:02:16 EST Subject: Re: NJC: anagram On Thu, 10 Oct 1996 20:07:10 +0200 (MET DST) Alexander Stamou writes: > >At about the same time as ABBA's comeback. What do you call a guy who hangs out with musicians? A drummer. I myself am a drummer, and anybody who's tried to play (trap or snare or coongas or whatever) will agree with me that it is definitely an art form and musical form all it's own. The drums are the most important part of almost any piece of music. Rhythms set the pace of our lifetimes... And this should also just have gone to SDA up there but I couldn't resist. It's not uncommon for someone (like a girlfriend of eighteen months) to try and do a "pre-seperation" before an actual seperation. This could be the case if your friend and the girl were very close and (dare I say it) in love with each other. The thought of leaving someone forever may have hurt so much that the girl decided to take herself away from him before she actual left for Florida. She might have concentrated on the bad things in their relationship (if there were any) to make it easier, or she might have just decided that it was easiest this way. I hope that helps you and your friend out a little.
