I've been a bit of a lurker on the list, but had to speak up when i read Duff's post. I'm sitting here listening to Jewel sing "Race Car Driver". I know, she has alot of other songs that are arguably better, but it's one of my favorites. I was out of town for 3 weeks and came back to a LOT of e-mail. I for one am glad for the decrease in list traffic, cause it's giving me a chance to get caught up on reading / deleting my e-mail from my very overloaded mailbox. I can totally relate to the mind-numbing process of going thru several months of e-mail. Maybe someday i'll get organized so i don't have to do this marathon e-mail bit. BTW, if you sent me a request for the Sept. 96 issue of Request magazine and i have not responded, send me a new e-mail. The computer gremlins have been at work on my computer lately, and with all the e-mail i've had i may have missed you. I'm still interested in any tapes or cd's of Jewel you might have, so maybe we can work out a trade. Send me another e-mail and we can work out the details off the list. If you have recieved your magazine, send me a short note so i know it got there. Thanks go to Mr. BB for the nice letter. I'm glad i was able to contribute something to the Jewel Archive. ============================================================= " When i was singing in a coffee shop, i prayed every night that somehow i'd get to live mky dream". quote from Request interview with Jewel RACIN ROY ------------------------------ From: gegertha@tiac.net (Chris Snyder) Date: Wed, 9 Oct 1996 02:02:50 -0500 Subject: Directions to Boston Show For those Angels coming to Boston from western Mass on the Mass. Pike. After rt 128 you'll pay the toll and give-up your ticket. Continue on to Boston on the Mass Pike Extension. After you go about 5 more miles you'll get to another toll..stay to the right toward boston...after paying 50 cents, continue on and get in the right lane. You will enter a tunnel and come upon an exit for Prudential Center/Copley Square. Take this exit and when it divides go right toward Copley Square. When you get outside, go straight thru lights. you should be on stuart st. you will go thru 3 or 4 intersections then a big intersection..you want to turn left at the next intersection (Charles Street)just before a very large red brick building (which may say Department of Transportation) After going one block, cross Boyleston St and you will find yourself with the Public Garden on the left and the Boston Common on the right ...and in the right lane the enterance to the Boston Common Parking Garage...so park! So for the simple version..mass pike, straight on Stuart St. till left on Charles 1 1/2 blocks into garage. For a graphic go to the Yahoo page under Yahoo click on the "city maps" link...when it asks for an address, put Charles Street & Stuart St.....and then Boston MA It will give you a clickable map of the area. I will be on the Common in front of the stage starting between 10:30 and 11:00. Also I talked to Dennis and he mentioned the possibility of a breakfast thing, but I'll let him tell you about that. Hope to see you there. Chris Snyder ------------------------------ From: Larry G Date: Wed, 9 Oct 1996 00:14:38 -0700 (PDT) Subject: dilemma -- NOT! [this is in resposnse to Ron's stay home and have all the worldly riches or risk it all to maybe see Jewel for suspect reasons which might not work out] : Ron: Your dilemma is easy; I wish they all were this easy. If you don't want to read to the bottom, then the answer is take the money now before they change their minds. Here are the reasons, all off the top of my head: 1. There are so many great live show tapes of Jewel available that you will get endless pleasure from having everything, if you even live long enough to get & listen to it all. Anyway, the music will take you to heaven. 2. You parents love you; that's why they made that offer. You can make them feel good, & express gratitude for the offer, & get heaven points in the process (honor thy earth parents, etc.). 3. You can make your school life easier. 4. You avoid the travel risk in bad weather. 5. Jewel might even cancel, if weather is predicted to be bad. She has had the flu and probably is exhausted, anyway. 6. You WILL have other chances to see Jewel live, no doubt about it. 7. You will NOT get over your obsession by seeing her live; in fact, you don't even know what obsession is until you have experienced Jewel live. 8. You are doomed, dude! Let it be. Whatever you decide will be the right choice. Spirit has a lesson for you in this. For those of you keeping track, a short while ago I had a dream in which a sign that read, "Harris Bros." appeared. Well, it's happened again. I won't go into much detail concerning the dream, it's rather strange and complicated and disgusting too. But I was waiting for this person, who I had never met before, and this guy comes up and he's wearing a t-shirt and the first thing I notice is "Dennis Harris" written on the t-shirt. I immediately jump up and yell out, "Harris!!" thinking that I am actually meeting one of the infamed Harris Bros. But alas, no. (Whew!) The shirt had a number of names, and that was infact the last name of Geoffrey Dennis and the first name of someone who's first name is Harris. Also, for some odd reason I was thinking of Pink Floyd's "The Wall" when I looked at the shirt. So, that's my second unconscious encounter with the Harris Bros. Which is further evidence that they are alien invaders here to take over the minds of all humans on Earth. Notice there haven't been any posts from the Harris Bros. lately? But, when she's played on the radio as WWSYS, and people go out and buy her album, they find that that's one of two(?) songs out of the 14 that have a band in the background. Personally, I think that's cool that she's really diverse. Many of her best songs are just her and her guitar. But, alot of people find their expectations were not fufilled, and they're disappointed.
