Don't you feel special:^) Rather than repeat info that people have on pre-existing web sites, I set out to make a resource that people can use, while paying tribute to Jewels music. I've posted 40 second clips from five of my favourite songs on the album "Peices of You"(if any of you would like me to post a clip from another song by all means, email me). The difference between my clips and everyone elses is that I used MPEG layer 3 compression to attain CD quality bites while keeping the file sizes down to less than half a meg. Since most of you probably already have PoY, you could probably care less, but if your bored, or if anyone you know has lived in a cave for the last 2 years and has never heard Jewel before, come on over:) Also if in the future, anyone is interested in releasing "unreleased" Jewel songs, I would strongly recomend using MPEG layer 3 compression, it will take a 65 meg WAV file of a 4 min. song, and bring it down to about 4.5 megs, with little or no quality degradation! Really... Ohh and if you visit, could you take the time to fill out the feedback form and let me know what you think of the page? Derrick ------------------------------ From: Mike Connell Date: Mon, 07 Oct 1996 20:42:21 -0400 Subject: Atlantic should release a single off the new CD *before* the CD comes out, IMHO EDAs, Well, I was just sitting here and dubbing my 22nd set of JS tapes for someone and I got to thinking about how the newly released "You Were Meant For Me" isn't gonna go nowhere. They just aren't gonna play it, radio nor VH1. The stations still ain't sold on Jewel and YWMFM just isn't the ticket. Don't get me wrong, I think YWMFM is great! It's just not gonna make it as a single. The list is TOO quiet now. So, I'm throwing this one out there for thread-fodder. Hiranya posted a while back about YWMFM first being released then "Foolish Games". I LOVE Foolish Games. It's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. I consider it Grammy material, I really do. It isn't going to get airplay either. It's a shame too. It saddens me that 99.99% of this country will never hear the PoY version of FG. What really, really, really irks me is that if Whitney, Madonna, Celine or Mariah sang it THE SAME WAY as Jewel (same tone, arrangement etc.... everything) and released it it would be number one for two months, just because of their name. That song deserves to be a MEGA-hit for Jewel and it won't get played. Something is wrong here, huh? I therefore feel it will be a HUGE mistake for Atlantic to release FG next. They ought to grab the bull by the horns and release something off the new CD before the CD comes out. It's done often enough, why not for Jewel? They should keep the release date of the new CD at 1/21/97, but release "Carnivore" or "Love Me Just Leave Me Alone" as a single in early December or thereabouts. Either one should be GREAT and a fast chart climber. That way, the radio listening public would really stand up and take notice and it should translate into many MORE sales when the CD is released. Let's face it, when 1/21/97 rolls around, basically only the real JewelHeads will be in the stores the first few days to get it. However, if they release a HOT number from it 5 to 6 weeks before the CD release, I honestly feel that the darn thing (CD) will really sell quickly right off the bat and move up the charts. Anyone else?
