I violated the simplest rule with my last post and forgot to put NJC. I mean, I did put LC (list content), but that's not official. And wouldn't you know it? I found Jeff's message right after my last post. More character profiles: Jeff Wasilko is the manager of this list. As far as I can tell, he gets nothing out of this relationship, except Jewel info. But he gives his equipment and time so that we can all have this. His own opinion, as he's said himself, is that he doesn't like the NJC. Yet so far he's been tolerant of it, except to ask us to stay more on topic. Now a thing is not a gift if there's no giving involved. But no one has to give a gift if they don't want to either. Jeff said that a lot of people have switched to the news form of the list. But this was to be expected, right? We all have different needs here. It was obvious there was a need for a news list or it wouldn't have been created in the first place. But Jeff, why are you still saving all the digests? Why don't you just save the news posts, and the most recent few days of digests for people who's mail got screwed up? We've outgrown the feasibility of saving everything said here. And here's a thought: if everyone were to post only JC and closely related stuff, initially there would be fewer posts, but then there would be a lot more members, and more posts, and you would have the same volume problems, but it would be harder to offer a solution then. And there would be no sense of closeness for *anybody*. No such thing as an EDA. Someone said that other artist lists don't have all this No_Artist_Content traffic. But do the members of those lists get together for shows like we do, do any of the things we do? Do they know each other? This is an honest question, because I don't know. If you don't have them yet...you WON'T be disappointed!!!!!!! They were soooo great!!! Oh yeah...if you haven't figured it out...I am home from Selena's :(. Anyway...I HEARD MYSELF ON THE TAPES!!!! Isn't that the weirdest thing when you actually hear yourself on them? I just about flipped out!!! I am on tape 2 & 3! On tape 2 is the racecar driver thing between SIBTW and You're So Small and on tape 3 is the "whatever" thing between Grey Matter and 1000 miles away!!! (geez I didn't mean to say "whatever" that loud :)) At one point in the trip home we decided to decided to stop and get gas and stuff. When we were in the Ladies bathroom I could have sworn that I heard WWSYS playing over the loud speaker but I was like nawwww my brain is just on Jewel overload. I walked out and sure enough it was Jewel....I was like "man I just can't get away from her!!" After listening to the JS tapes for 4.5 hours we popped in the Little Mermaid, then Harry Connick Jr....weird transition eh??? We discussed the highlights of the weekend including some VERY STRANGE happenings at Selena's last night...let's just say that pictures speak 1000 words and for Barry's and Shelly's sakes I hope that some pictures don't turn out!!! ;-) It was really hard to leave...I had a wonderful weekend...thank you to Selena and Barry for being such gracious hosts. This weekend made me realize that you are all my true friends...I don't care how weird that sounds...it is true! I can act like a total idiot around you guys and you still accept that...it means a lot to me...it is nice to have people actually understand where I am coming from. You all are just soooo cool!!!! Sure Jewel concerts are great because I get to see the most brilliant singer/songwriter (IMO) but what makes them even better is that I get to see you all. When we get together it seems like we have known each other for years. It is just soooo awesome and none of my friends around here seem to understand that...which is unfortunate for them. Thank you alllllllll soooooooo much!!!!!! I best be going!!!! I have the real world to contend with now...argh! -Liz P.S. On the way home we passed the MTV Choose Or Lose Bus!!! I went into hiding for a while because I was so pissed off at most of the people on this list for their ignorance and for not caring as much about Jewel's music as I think I do. Here's my point. Bootlegs are cool. You guys are so anti-bootleg yet you are also so pro Jewel's increasing mainstream popularity, which, if you don't know, I despise, more than anybody else on this list prob'ly. Mainstream artists are bootlegged, it's a fact of life. Live with it. Seeing her in venues that are too big for her is a much greater problem that will arise sooner but, anyway, I digress. Bootlegs allow fans access to material they cannot get legally, cannot, I repeat, cannot, get legally. How else can the true fan get this material, what are we supposed to just live without it(moderate sarcasm)? I can see why artists get pissed when studio recordings are smuggled out and bootlegged, but live performances are a different story. There is no reason you shouldn't be accountable, to the hardcore fan base at leat, for what you do when you are on stage, the quality of your work. This is what fans want, the documentation. Jewel especially is so much different and better live and that is why us fans need bootlegs in addition to her actual albums. What about tape trading you might say, isn't that good enough? No! We want CDs. For sound quality and efficiency, we need CDs. Unfortunately, you cannot record directly onto them at concerts like you can do with tapes so bootlegging is the only way to get a Jewel live CD. Will I buy them-yes. I would give...well alot for a CD bootleg of Jewelstock, an awful f---ing lot. I'd pay good money for a CD bootleg of the May 21 Tradewinds Sea Bright NJ performance too. Does that make me a bad person who doesn;t care about Jewel? In some opinions expressed lately on the list, I think the answer is yes. Oh well, too bad, you're wrong. Oh, and Igor. You went a little over board on the censorship thing. I like it as a free unmoderated uncensored list. But it is still the Jewel list, right? Is it fair to have one or is that censorship? Should all mailing lists be untitled as to protect our fragile rights? Should Details be condemned because it declares itslelf to be a men's magazine? Let's not overdue it Igor, I mean, I've been called liberal but... Well, that's about it for now. I'm psyched to see that mass market exploitation hounds like MTV and Z100(in NY) are not playing YWMFM. The video can only be seen randomly on VH1, where Jewel belongs, and there only on Crossroads really, or on M2, which like twenty four people in Oregon have and that's it. She's not radio friendly, neither is that song-Good. It still baffles me how you all want her to be famous and a sell out and the next Alannis Morisette and stuff. If Jewel wants fame, that's fine, but she's never said that has she? She justs wants to be able to eat every day doing something she loves. And that's why I love her. Later, Sean Hooks PS: Oh, I just got back from the Pearl Jam concert. Unbelievable, incredible, what a rock show. Just a sick setlist that spanned almost three hours of pour your guts out, hardcore, Springsteen-esque(in length and fervor)rock and roll. ------------------------------ From: "BRADLEY C.
