But wasn't the newslist created so that people who didn't want to read this stuff didn't have to? That's been done now. Why are you still complaining? I know you're helping to moderate the posts for inclusion in the newslist postings, and that's a huge, no - staggering - job to keep up with, but you *did* sign up for it. I don't think it's fair to complain now about the same issues that the newslist was supposed to solve. On the other hand, it *is* our responsibility as list members to try to be as considerate to each other as possible, which means at the least to try to remember to always put NJC in the subject if there's no Jewel content. And we can add other codes as need be if they will help. Warning: everybody, if you have something important to say and you want people to read it, don't stick it at the end of a message that is part of a thread. Common sense, but we all have lapses. A lot of people will miss it, perhaps the ones you're trying to contact (e.g. a branch asks where his leafs are after a post about astrology, or Transformers, or the A-team). I'm not picking on anybody here. I was a part of the astrology thread myself. And I guess no one is updating the FAQ? It might be useful to have a new mini-FAQ explaining what NJC and EDA are for and answering a few other most-asked-by-newbies questions. If I recall correctly the current FAQ is too intimidatingly large for quick or full comprehension. So the mini-FAQ would be a quick reference sheet basically. If someone were to take charge of this, then we could even have newbies or once-newbies give feedback as to what was most confusing when they joined and include that in the quick reference sheet. And of course, at the end of it, we would admonish everyone to also read and study the full FAQ because there WILL be a quiz on it :) And now to violate one of my own suggestions, I'll ask an important question (to me) at the end of this long post. Is there a good way to extract a single message from the digest form back to loose-mail form? I often want to save a message or two, but not the whole digest, and cut-and-paste is lame and effort-intensive. This list has already made me learn alot about the various features of my email program, but help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. She has a great voice but a bad image. She tried to 'shake' the teen pop star image by calling herself Deborah, and releasing some overproduced schmaltz geared to adult A/C radio. I think she would have been far better off collaborating with cool rock musicians like Flea and putting out a 90's attitude album like Alanis did. Most people don't realize that as a teenager, Alanis had some top-40 hits in Canada even cheezier than Debbie's. Her new record company successfully kept those songs out of the worldwide spotlight when they launched Alanis as Alterna-star. The point is, I think Debbie is at least as talented as Alanis, but didn't luck into the marketing genius Alanis found. - --- Crash Boy outdid the Psychic Friends Network in predicting: >... by this >time, Jewel's voice will have strengthened to the point where she can do a >two hour show with very little strain on her voice. I still like to read the Jewel-pertinet questions, speculation and follow-up threads that in my opinion should be on the news list, but aren't. I guess I was hoping for more of a Jewel Content, rather than strictly News spinoff, reminiscent of the early days of this list. And on the subject of time zones. The Sun appears to move 60 miles over the surface of the Earth every four minutes. One degree of longitude is equal to 60 miles, so the Sun moves 1 degree every four minutes, or 15 degrees an hour. The contiguous United States sits between 65 degrees and 125 degrees west longitude -- four time zones. The Eastern time zone is five hours behind Greenwich Mean Time, and is followed by Central, Mountain, and Pacific. In Canada, there is also Atlantic(-4) and Yukon(-9). Alaska and Hawaii are in the Alaska-Hawaii time zone at 10 hours behind GMT. Sweden is one hour ahead of GMT, in MET which I confess I have no idea what it means (Mid-Europe?). Australia I'm afraid I'm even more at a loss, knowing neither the time zone nor the time difference. Forgive me. Until next month, we in the US are in Daylight Savings Time, but since Sweden also observes DST, the time difference is the same. (They're two hours ahead of GMT, but I'm only 4 hours behind.) Does Sweden also change back to standard time on the last Sunday of October? If you'd like to find the exact time difference to GMT where you are, simply take your longitude, multiply by four, then divide by 60. You can then subtract the difference of your time zone from this time, and add or subtract that time from the time on your clock and you have the "true" Local Mean Time for your location.
