Okay, I will do my best to be non-partisan and describe all THREE of our experiences (Paul, Jason, and myself) but I don't think it's gonna work. *sigh* I got to the Iron Horse around, okay, a little before, 5. The doors were set to open for dinner at 5:30, the show starting at 7. Jason calendar-man-I'm-gonna-be-an-english-teacher-Duncan McSheik-Shaw showed up around 5:30ish, just after a group of three middle-aged Irishmen/women cut in front of me in line ( Yes, I WAS the line ). The doors opened at 6, Jason and I got in and immediately snagged the front-row center table. Jason and I had a long conversation about the list, Selena, Akira, Shakespeare, etc, etc. Jason tried to dissuade me from playing with the candle on the table, until I lit a piece of paper on fire, and , upon trying to blow it out, I blew the candle out too. We got our dinner (VERY late ) and Paul showed up in standard EDA attire :). Paul then went downstairs and snagged me an Eleanor poster off the wall ( momento #1 ). At exactly 7, the first band started, called "Show Of Hands". They were okay for two middle aged Irish men who played Bob Dylan covers and made jokes about Elvis. The guitarist, a very Santa-Clausey kinda guy , winked at me. After the show, as they were breaking down, the singer guy said to me "you were yawning". "I WAS ?" "Yep, you yawned twice." "Oh, I'm SO sorry." After I apologized, I asked him for the set list he had put down in front of his mike stand ( momento #2 ) and he said, "Sure, take it, we'll autograph it for you if you wait 5 minutes." So I did, and they did. Ad eventually... YAY... Eleanor came out. I don't have the set list, Paul does, but it was great. She was, like, 3 feet away from me. I was singing along to every song. At one point, she sat down at the piano to play "Precious Little", and I let out a little whoop, and she whooped back at me. The crowd at that point had really thinned out, and the waiter had relit our candle, but I blew it out again when I saw Paul sniffing candle fumes. I finally grabbed the candle from the table next to us, that had been deserted. Finally ( :( ) Eleanor stoped singing. The whole band went downstairs, and after about two minutes of Paul and I screaming our bloody heads off, they came back on. Ahhh, THIS is the OHMIGOD part. Eleanor went to the microphone and said "This last song is for the young lady sitting up here" - she points to me - "because she's sang along with every song. I kept on getting worried that I would forget the words !" And, with that, she sang a song off the first album ( which I DIDN'T know the words to ) . I grabbed Eleanor's pick off the floor for me ( momento # 3) and the set list for Paul. So the concert was aver. I was extrordinarily giddy (obviously) and I asked Pual where we could go to talk to the band. He led us downstairs, where I looked through the glass of a closed door and saw the band sitting around. "I don't want to bother them, guys..." I said, and kind of walked away so I wouldn't be peering through the door. Suddenly, Kiernan ( Eleanor's brother and guitarist) stuck his head out and said to me, "Would you like to come in ?" "SURE !" I bolted for the door, when I heard a little Paul voice saying "What about us?". "Can my friends come too?" I asked Kiernan. "Of course !" he said. And, so , this is how we ended up in Eleanor's dressing room. I can't remember everything that was done or that we said. Eleanor signed my CD AND signed a promo post-card for me ( momento #4 + 5). Paul got pictures of all of us together, and I told the band the story of the Jewel NH show and how much we all liked her. We were down there for about 20 minutes when Jason and Paul FORCED me to leave. I'm not kidding, Jason started poking me and Paul grabbed my hair and pulled me to the door. A quick goodbye, thank-you's, and we left. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Jason drove of into the pre-setted sun to get home for school the next day ( thanks again for dinner !! ) and I followed Paul back to his dorm room to see Newt and pick up a tape. Well, I TRIED to follow Paul back- he did his best to lose me, but I held my ground :). I got the tape, met some of Paul's floories/roomies, had a heartfelt conversation with Newt, and finally drove home, where I immediately jumped on the 'puter. The whole thing was just totally amazing. I can't believe everything that happened... and, OH boy, I am NOT going to be able to speak tomorrow. Oh well, who needs verbal skills when you've got your Eleanor CD signed "To Rachel, with lots of love" and a cigarette drawn on Eleanor's mouth ? I need some sleep :). "I need to calm down. Oh, fire !!!" whatever what weird s-word was that the Irish guy kept saying... and "C A R S !!!!!" for everyone !!! After a terrific performance, we went down to her dressing room to met her and the band! She is a very gracious person and was very accomdating. I got an autograph, a picture and some wonderful memories.
