Alanis is so different from Jewel because her signing style is like Melissa Etheridge, Joan Osborne, and Janis Joplin and Jewel is like Tori Amos and Joni Mitchell and nobody can compare the two. Also it was the *VIDEO* awards and I dont think anyone with a working brain can truely say "WWSYS" is a better than "Ironic". I thought to myself.....wow this person has an incredible voice. I called the radio station and asked who the singer was and they tod me her name was Jewel. Have any of you ever heard of her??? So I went out and bought her CD called "Pieces Of You" which is absolutely wonderful!!!! I think all of you would like her a lot!!!! I also heard that she yodels...is this true? I have never heard another voice like hers...it is just soooo unique. I also heard that she is releasing a follow-up CD in like JAN or FEB that may possibly include a song or two from this concert thing that she put on called JewelStock. Wow....those who went to that must be really lucky!!!! Ok.....so I had heard of Jewel before...I was just trying to remind everyone on the purpose of this list...I love off the topic threads as does anyone else but a reminder every now and then never hurts. Someone please think of a really good Jewel thread!!!! Rachel....that was a great essay!!!! I am sure that your feelings about this list are felt by many!!!!!!! (Myself included!!!) BTW-----Guess what everyone???? I FINALLY broke up with my boyfriend of 3.5 months!!!!! Does anyone ever think at random times...."hmmm I wonder what Jewel is doing at this moment."...or am I just completely insane??? Well...I think we all know the answer to that question!!! ;-) Time to go night night!!! -Liz(zzzzzzard) ------------------------------ From: jewelfan@juno.com (Lizabeth A Clark) Date: Mon, 09 Sep 1996 00:23:04 EDT Subject: Re: PS On Sun, 8 Sep 1996 23:39:23 -0400 Hiranya writes: >By the way: I guess many at Atlantic Records freaked at >Jewel's change. For the last couple of months I've been sorta outta the jewel loop being at home, on a different mail system and forced to go digest after being on about a year. I checked my mail a few days too late to get my spot in the woodstock concert, which still makes me sad, but I guess there's not too much to be done about that now (wasn't there a 12-step?:) But at any rate, I just wanted to say hello to everyone, say thanks to Rachel for the post and a little more re-inspiration to keep better track of posts, even though they come en masse. During a really not that fabulous first couple of weeks back at school, Jewel's music is one thing that always is medatative enough to keep me sane and happy, and in touch with simple life facts people all so often forget...like human kindess, and peace. Here's to Jewel's next Cleveland concert being very soon!! Peace Angels, everyday. Mia! p.s. I'm designing a show (I'm a theatre design student) in the spring... can anyone think of a way I could work one of Jewel's songs into Moliere's Tartuffe? :) ~~~~~ Vale et me ama, Amelia S.
