I just wanted to say that I don't think anyone who commented on Jewel's
appearence on Lettermen meant to judge her. It's just we're not really used
to seeing her all dolled up. It was just different and people commented on
how they felt about it. I didn't feel that anyone was trying to diss her.

Absolutely nothing! She was a knockout! If I could look like Jewel did, I'd

Hiranya, most of us do have lives, we just get so wrapped up in our private
"relationships" with Jewel. Hey, she's the one who's so DAMNED personable,
you know!  ;)

I doubt many of us could stand up to the scrutiny Jewel gets from her most
avid fans. I'd only be upset at Jewel if she quits singing for us, cause I'm
looking forward to her eventual crossover out of folk/pop into whatever else
she wants to do. I'll listen to her sing ANYTHING (country, blues, jazz or
anything with yodeling).

Speaking of music, how's about we change the predominate thread on this list

For beginners, Sean shit on this entire list with his post. Our response was
better than he deserved. But more importantly...

Jeremy, I've had the pleasure of joining Amy at the two most heavily
EDA-attended Jewel concert events (JS and Hampton Beach) and many online
conversations. Her opinions are FAR from psycho-babble. I KNOW many of the
more active folks on this list DO want to hear Amy's opinion. As we want to
hear yours, as caustic and misinformed (in this case) as it is.

Otherwise, I agree the thread should be put to rest. It's just that we had
gone through list terrorism (literally) by another a**hole a month earlier,
and many of us will not tolerate abuse heaped on our fellow EDAs. Also, I
will not sit and let snide comments like "psyco-babble" go unchallenged. If
you're so convinced, please analyze Amy's psycho-babble for us. I personally
know of over 200 EDAs who will have a very hard time buying it, however.

Yes you read correctly...this list has PMS...Pretty Messy
Stuff......can't we all just get along and accept everyone for who they
are? This list is like a big family and I hate to see us squabble over
stupid trivial matters like the NJC debate, Sean Hooks, and Jewel's
physical image. We are united because of the beauty of Jewel's music and
personality and we should always remember this!!! Jewel has enabled many
of us to become friends and we all know that she cares about her fans. We
as the fans should respect that she cares about us and let her bloom into

Subject: confused and disgusted about MTV awards

Hi everybody.  I would have wanted my first post to this list to be more
positive, but I just watched the MTV awards.  I can condense it to one word:
suck.  Not impressed in any way.  I like both Coolio and Alanis, and
seriously respect them especially because they implied that they weren't the
most worthy candidates for those particular awards.  I feel that two great
bands, Jewel (first and foremost, of course) and Bone Thugs 'n' Harmony,
were seriously snubbed by the awards.  The only award I didn't have a
problem with was the Viewer's Choice, which went to a deserving band, Bush.  
        Sorry if I offend anyone now (I was offended by the awards), but I
do NOT like Smashing Pumpkins!  (The bells in "Disarm were cool, though :)
).  Dennis Miller, the "host" spoke for maybe fifteen minutes, and during
five minutes of that, he was being rude to the cosmonauts.  I have a
question for anyone that can answer:  Who chooses the winners?!  I would
honestly like an answer if any knows.
        Well, I'm done complaining.  I guess we can be thankful for maybe
two face shots of Jewel, though they should have caught her for the
post-show segment.  Or maybe they were right in leaving her alone.  I don't
know.  Sorry this is so long, I'll try to keep it shorter in the future.

Subject: At Least the Cameraman Liked Her

As I expected, but wouldn't admit for fear of jinxes or flames, Jewel got
multiple hosings tonight.  Despite the absolute crassness of the awards --
Jewel's participation is the only reason I gave this show any attention, as
I've steadily avoided it for years -- some deserving musicians did win,
especially all the honors that Smashing Pumpkins received.

Jewel and her fans did get a very subtle consolation prize, though.  When
Alanis Morissette won the award for Best Female Video, she claimed she was
definitely not the best female in the group.  The accompanying shot for that
remark was of Jewel.  Those Loser Reaction Closeups are always unnecessarily
cruel, but the show's producers got their preferences known, much to my liking.

Don't lament it, Jewel.  It's an ugly statue anyway.  My purple ChiaBear
will look MUCH better on your mantelpiece than that rusty 'ol spaceman.

I would love a note to the list from Jewel giving her review of that show.
I feel soiled enough just watching it on television, so much so that I'd
likely suffocate on fumes were I to actually attend.  Don't worry Miss
Kilcher, I wouldn't take any horrid descriptions as bitterness; the program
is just lousy, period.

P.S. - Oasis: Decent band, absolutely horrible people.  Their music is not
nearly good enough for me to tolerate the slimy conceit that drenches the
Gallagher brothers.  I'm glad I left KOME's Almost Acoustic Christmas just
as Oasis was about to perform, since I hate those men so deeply that I will
do my damnedest to never give them any support of any kind.  Their post-song
boos got me cheering.  I'd MUCH rather have Jarvis Cocker of Pulp
representing the new British music scene.  He's a bit of a snob himself, but
at least he doesn't demonstrate any disgust for the fans that support him
and his bandmates.  What the hell is Patsy Kensit thinking, marrying that
monster Liam?

Hi, Hi, all....
Didn't want to start my first post out with a bitch, but this has been 
bothering me for quite awhile now and I want to get some feedback.
Jewel did a show at 328 performance hall in Nashville awhile ago, and I 
missed her (having yet been exposed to her wonderful, wonderful music)  
so when she came back through, I was first in line for a ticket.  
To my point...The show was incredible, she asked for a pick, and I GAVE 
HER MINE!! she used it for the rest of the show (puffing of chest and 
grinning of face).  She talked to the audience, told stories, played new 
stuff, and generally blew us all away.  My girlfriend and I decided to 
top off the evening by trying to meet her round back (exit stage-door 
left, heavens to Mergatroid)  We waited about thirty minutes (there were 
only about 15 people out there) and then she appeared...
and just as quickly disappeared into her car to be sped away to her hotel.
No smile, no wave, no accknowledgment what-so-ever.
Needless to say, I was disheartened, this goddess who had recieved MY 
PICK with such tenderness had just totally dissed me and the other people 
out back.  It seems like she could have at least WAVED TO US!!  Is that 
too much to ask?  I would appreciate some feedback on this.

Other than that tiny little incident, I worship Jewel and all that she 
has accomplished in her short but eventful life-so-far.  I don't want to 
sound to down on her, but that completely changed the mood of the rest of 
the evening.

Ok, angels, this is a good one, and since it's late and I'm tired, I'll be
dribbling this one out in pieces.
Tonight, I had the pleasure of meeting our beloved EDA Igor.
To me Igor has been sort of the wise uncle of this list, willing to do
whatever it takes to keep anyone on the list who is burdened by suffering of
any kind from surrendering to pain and negativity, and keeping the
discussion focused on the angel-like positive energy which is one of the
special gifts that Jewel and those of us who adore her seem to share.
I think it's something for us to keep in mind that most of us on this list
do not ever post much of anything to the list, but most if not all of us DO
read this list with interest and attachment, and we all feel a kinship with
the Living Legends who post regularly -- we and you know who you are -- so,
for me, it was SPECIAL to get to meet Igor.  Details some other time.

         I will tell you that I had emailed him a few days ago to suggest
that we meet at a concert I was planning on attending in his area.  He
agreed, and we went to a great concert at the Coach House in San Juan
Capistrano, CA, and heard Jimmie Dale Gilmore, who is a terrific performer
and artist. (Alejandro Escovedo opened, also great). We shared stories and
insights, had other fascinating coincidences occur,  and it was just
delightful for me to see how positive he really is. 
        It got me to thinking about the duality of energy in the world,
where we all are moved by pain and drawn to the joy.  There is a whole thing
here that follows this theme, Jewel- and Igor- and EDA-related, but it'll
hafta wait, I gotta go ta work early!

(I'd include a quote from Dennis's post, but that'd make me feel like
I'm being antagonistic)  I'd just like to point out that I agree with
Dennis' observations, but Jeremy's post just may be a reaction to the
"JC/NJC" debate - that is now over - RIGHT???  Some people lash out,
some play hockey...
To my main point, I'm siding with Liz (hey, I found "Lay it Down",
someone didn't steal it!!!) with her point that parts of this list seems
to have chronic PMS.  There is way too much bitching and whining from
parts of this list, and at this point, it's rubbing off on me.  Who
REALLY, REALLY cares what she wore on Letterman? To the guys -- when was
the last time you made such a fuss about what shade of lipstick your
girlfriend/wife wore?  She's an adult, and no one person has the right,
or the room to critize, what she does with her makeup or what she
wears.  The whole thread reminds me of grade school, picking on the poor
kid who made the fashion faux pas that day...
I think she looked good on Tuesday, and not in a male-piggish way. 
Hell, I'd dress like that if I could (wait...maybe...nevermind, I don't
have the chest for that...)  I'm really disappointed in what this has
become.  I used to enjoy sitting here for an hour of two, to relax,
seeing what the Angel Princess is up to, but it's changed... it's not
fun anymore.  I don't want to sound like I'm pissed off and don't give a
shit, but it's getting harder and harder to be an EDA, and I don't want
to get to that point, and I really hope I don't have to.

Be wise, look both ways before ducking, and play nice...

She was recording in Nashville then also, doing some finishing touches
on her next CD, and we (the list) were told back then she went to the 
studio AFTER the show you saw...It was late, and she had a show in New 
Hampshire the next night too. (which I and 38 or so other list members 
went to). She had been recording all day too. She was probably tired.

Like Hiranya said yesterday, she's just human.

I hafta agree with you on the Alanis & Coolio bit - they were gracious
- -- maybe not coherent, maybe not speaking in middle-america english, but
gracious. In fact, I would have been perfectly happy with Alanis winning
if Jewel hadn't been a contender -- I agree with other posts that Alanis
is a studio musician, and as a musician I understand the difference, but
the video music awards aren't for the music, they're for the video,
they're for the eMptyTV exposure (ie - how many times was your video in
rotation)

I do hafta take issue (in a friendly way) with Bone Thugs n Harmony
<spelling?> HUH?!? A cheesey gospel opening (I hope that hasn't the
'Harmony' part of the group) and a video tribute to whatshisname
(forgive)? Man... ;)

Somewhere it was written that you cannot use an orchestra until your

Don't know who picks -- I would assume its done by the amount of sales
of the single, along with viewer requests (although how does MTV figure
air-play? They never show any videos) 

Dennis Miller was... oh, never mind!

Smashing Pumpkins.... i've come full circle on them. I liked them for an
early single, then realized they sucked (imho) -now I'm starting to
appreciate the music (same way I appretiate country music)
