Hey you guys, Did anyone else get like 1000 messages from the list this weekend? Cuz every time I check my e-mail, I get copies of all the messages that were posted this weekend. It's HELLA annoying, cuz I just went downstairs to watch Jewel on Letterman, and I came back and had close to 400 new messages in my mailbox, mostly multiple repeats of the stuff that came on the list this weekend. I thought maybe it was my server, but I'm only getting single copies of the messages from the other list I'm on, so I doubt that could be it. And we're talking prolly around 30-50 copies of every message written this weekend. Oh, and She Was Good, Too I got so caught up philosophizing about Miss Kilcher's career that I failed to offer my positive opinion of the performance. As discombobulated as I was, I still think she did a wonderful job, even though I missed Big Blue. "YWMFM" doesn't have any major riot-causers like "WWSYS"'s extended notes, but it's still a great song, and Miss Kilcher consistently does it credit. And Tom Proven was inspired to ask about Jewel duet-fantasies because I mentioned to him that I sing Steve Poltz's harmony whenever I listen to the song. I'm guilty. And I'm guilty. And I'm guilty. And you're guilty too. Hey hey hey, while I'm feeling a bit verklempt, I'll give you a topic. The "sad look." Acting, or genuine emotional distress? Discuss. I thought acting, but I'm getting just a little too concerned with Miss Kilcher if I'm worried about her crying. I'm just a sucker for women crying. I always end up trying to make them laugh. Was that guy in the hat that guitarist Mark S that I've read so much about? He WAS scratching himself alot, too bad about the fleas Dave mentioned. And where was the rest of the group? And, do they EVER appear in the NY or Boston area??? I've been dying to see them in concert. She's opening for Neil Sedaka on this tour right? Ok, I finally have to say something publically about this. > ..jee i know lets > start a form a cerncorship and destroy everything this country was > supposed to be built on. This has nothing to do with censorship. Nobody wants to censor you. You can talk all you want. The point is that there are appropriate places to talk about various things, and USING the appropriate places is what MAKES THEM WORK. A lot of people are going to get immediately defensive because they think people are trying to shut them up. Please don't; they're not. I wonder how many potential subscribers this list has lost because of its utter irrelevance to its purported topic. It's not advertised as "a list where people who like jewel talk about whatever they want." I'm sure such a thing would attract enough people, but it's not what I subscribed for last year. The people who come looking for jewel content are being censored as much as anyone. And aren't any of you stopping to notice how Hiranya's messages *to you* have been decreasing because she simply can't sort through all her mail to find messages that Lenedra might want to comment on? Is that worth throwing away so that you can talk about toothpaste HERE? > It upsets me to think that ppl would rather have nothing but jewel > content then maybe helping out someone who really needs something.. i.e. > a friend or maybe a web page...little things you can do to help ppl go a > long ways..... When I first joined this list it was almost all jewel content, yet it did not lack any sense of community at all -- these were the people who brought you Rare Angels. The traffic level was manageable and much of it was even worth saving. It was not just Jewel *news*, there was discussion too. The main difference was not that people never "helped" anyone -- but they did it in private email. I have come out against a news-only list before and I'm not ready to change that position. I like the discussion. But I do not like the irrelevant discussion. I can go elsewhere for that, and I think the list would be better if the rest of us did too. Now, if someone wanted to be moderator of a gated list, where they would forward any jewel-related content (not just news, but discussion) from the irrelevant discussion list, then I would go for that in a big way. But perhaps the name of the non-jewel list could be changed to "meta-jewel." Truth in advertising and all that. ------------------------------ From: AwsmLASER@aol.com Date: Tue, 3 Sep 1996 08:42:59 -0400 Subject: NJC:Re: Ski Trip idea The snow in Colorado is just as good as the snow in Utah!! Why do such silly things at such an early hour? Well, if I proved to be entertaining enough for the Air Force they will pay for the rest of my schooling, and give me a whopping $150 a month until I'm commissioned. Perhaps it was worth missing a Jewel television performance, but I don't know. This is entirely un"me," but who was offering to make tapes? VHS HiFi? Let me know. I'm in. But I'm slow with the snail mail. Ask Dean "The Man" Harris, or Dave DiCicco (did I spell that right?) While I'm rambling (trying to kill time before my next class, because I should be reading History, but they were out of books at the book store) well that parenthetical statement just killed the ol' thought process. Oh yeah... I woke up in the middle of the night a several moons ago, and turned on the radio. My psychic prowess must have been at a peak because the next song that started was everyone's favorite: WWSYS. (I'm getting good at this) Well, I have been doing some drumming lately (OK, I have been doing some MIDI programming with Dr. Rhythm) and (here's where the point is)... I don't listen to the radio much, but is the tempo of WWSYS a little faster on the radio than on the CD or video? I played the CD immediately after hearing the radio version, and it sounded like it was faster on the radio. Now this reminds me of Hiranya's post about YWMFM, when she said it was "sped up" a little bit via computer. So, the question is: Is the radio version shorter than the 4 min CD or video version, or is it just me? Well, that killed about 15 min.
