I hate when people claim to be your best friends and when something seems to be up you ask them "what's wrong?" and they tell you "nothing" and then 2 days later after you think everything's fine you find out that your supposed best friend doesn't even want to spend time with you. Do you know how much that pisses me off? And then you tell them about a recent Jewel concert to the extent of "It was great, there were some list members there and I talked to Lenedra and Bibi" because they claim to love Jewel and then you find out that they accuse you of bragging.....for 30 friggin seconds of info...ok whatever. And then that supposed best friend says that my other friend and I ditched her...ok now tell me is it ditching someone when they walk away from you? If it is then I guess I have had the wrong defintion of ditching someone wrong for close to 16 years. I hate friends...you think they care about you and then they go and back-stab you and make you look like a bad person. I am speaking from experience and and it is happening once again in my life...and I thought things were different. the thing is that this has only happened to me by one person. This person has also claimed B/F/F (best friends forever) I guess she doesn't know what forever means. I've been into Jewel for awhile, and recently she came to Nashville (where I live) and I couldn't go to the show. One of my "best" friends, who only claims to like "Who Will Save Your Soul" got a ticket, and decided to rub it in my face everyday for two weeks. The night of the show, I sat at my computer and wrote out a really long bitch session spitting out Jewel lyrics and typing not-so-nice things about her. I did that so I could get it out of my system, you know, so that I could be as nice as possible when I saw her the next day. I greeted her w/ a smile, and she returned the gesture by spewing out *every single* detail of the show, especially how amazing it was. I think that people just *don't* think. I can't figure out if it's intentional or not, but it does hurt. Just keep smiling and stick to your true friends. It's not just your opinion anymore... perhaps someday we'll have a march on Washington, yeah! I know that it wastes bandwidth and is quite annoying when somebody quotes an entire message, then adds a little comment at the end, but hey, Amy's brilliant, she said it all, and it bears repeating! I apologize to everyone who reads these posts and resents the space taken up in their mail boxes, the cramps they get in their delete fingers etc. I know it's a problem that should be addressed, but it seems to me that this list has evolved from simply a Jewel mailing list to something much larger. It seems to me, that now it's a group of likeminded people who can feel safe talking to each other without threat of reprise or censure, and who share similar enough interests to not only be united by the incredible music of one woman, but to feel encouraged to share their other interests with open-minded people. I think that's also been said in one form or another, over and over again, also, and it hasn't solved the obvious problem of too much list traffic, but it does prompt us to reconsider the value that NJC may have. tom "standing on a really big soap box" mink thanks for pointing out my error, Amy... and publicly humiliating me.;) ------------------------------ From: jshaw@bcn.net (Jason Shaw) Date: Mon, 2 Sep 1996 19:39:32 -0400 (EDT) Subject: Re: The Great NJC Debate In My Humble Opinion: Jewel is the catalyst. This is Kathy, Let me introduce myself, I'm Kathy, Igor's wife. Igor saved his password on Newscape Mail so I've been able to log on. I am only doing this because Igor is acting strange the past few days. He has been acting very depressed lately. I think it has something to do with the Jewel mailing list. He spends a lot of time reading all that mail. What do you people talk about? I have been woken up in the middle of the night by that sound the modem makes. He use to make me write all his letters. He hasn't even writen a friend a letter in at least ten years. I just checked his sent folder and he has over three houndred letters in it. How did you all inspire him to do this. He is deathly afraid of writing. He would sooner fight a six foot five drunk than write anything. He is kind of a street fighting, street educated neandrathal teddy bear. You should have been there to see what he did to a guy that blew smoke in my face. Right now I'm peeking through a small opening into his home office. He hasn't drank in a long time but I see he has opened a bottle of wine we bought for guests. I think it is a bottle of Cabernet. This is not a good sign. He is so anti-alchohol. Let me continue watching and see what he does. If he tries to smoke anything, I'll know something is seriosly wrong and I will call 411. What's he doing now? It looks like he is reading his e-mail. I work for a VP at a Fortune 100 company. I don't get as much mail as he does. Most of my mail has names that end in CEO, VP or other titles. Igor's mail has all these fumnny names like Superdeformed angel, Fuzzy and Piglet, Wiggy something and Rafa. Who are these Harris Bros. that send him all this mail? It looks like he's going to read every letter. I'm going to be here for a while. What's he doing now? It looks like he blocked all 400 letters from the Jewel list and is printing all of them. What's he doin' now? It looks like he's taking all his clothes off. Last time he did this, I had to do every thing I could to keep the neighbors from calling the police. He is loading the second ream of paper into the laser printer. He looks so peaceful sitting there with no clothes on doing what looks like office work. Now he is holding one of the letters in his hand and reading it. He keeps repeating the name Selena. Now he is doing a hand stand with no clothes on and reading this same letter. Who is this Selena chic? OK chic is not something you would hear from a person like me that fights for womens rights, but he has this smile on his face that only a wife should know. He is getting up to leave the room. It looks like he's going to the bathroom. I don't want him to know that I've been watching him, otherwise I would remind him to lift the seat. I just heard the seat slam up against the tank. He didn't forget. He is headed towards the bedroom now, with all that printed mail. He is now laying on top of the covers on our king-size bed and he is covering himself with the mail, just like in that movie where the guy covers himself with money. He is picking though the mail and reading. It looks like he is reading a letter from Sean Hooks. He looks angry because he just tossed it on the ground. Now he's reading a letter from Selena. He's got this big smile on his face and now he is holding it to his chest. When I get a chance, I need to read that one. It looks like he is falling a sleep. Good thing, because tomorrow he is acting as a judge in a trial at San Diego County. It is the trial of Every Day Angels vs. Sean Hooks. I can't wait to see what happens. ------------------------------ From: CornflkGl@aol.com Date: Mon, 2 Sep 1996 22:03:12 -0400 Subject: Jewel in Best Buy commercial... this is really not anything spectacular, but I didn't notice anyone else mentioning it, so...
