As i rounded a corner, there was a nice, new, white, sporty car stopped on the side of the road. Hmm, wonder if he needs help- he can't be all bad, he's not at the game. (tee hee, sorry- my appreciation of sports is not the subject of the post) So i watch, wondering, and see him go out to the middle of the road and pick up a dead dog and carry it over to the grass where it won't be seen or in the way. How many people nowdays do you know that would stop their car, get out, and carry a bloody mass of hairy meat and bones to the side of the road like that? It really made an impact on me, even if he probably thought i was looking at him like he was an idiot. I just couldn't believe my eyes. So why am i posting? If we take this story of someone taking the trouble to prevent an accident or even just the imprint of roadkill in a child's mind on the way home from the game and really consider it, maybe we will be a little more considerate when we can. Use your turn signal, let people out in traffic, or stop to help out someone who needs a jump next time you have the chance- remember the considerate driver who went out of his way to help without any thanks for his thoughtfulness. Surely we can try if he was willing to do his unpleasant deed. James ________________________________________________________________________ Computer Science/Engineering Eng. I bought Pieces of You early this summer. Not that everyone hasn't heard these kinds of opinions before on this list, but who needs variety, eh? My first exposure to Jewel was WWSYS on eMpTyV. I thought her voice was heavenly. Being a predominantly heavy/thrash/death metal fan, it was a nice change. Besides Jewel, I listen to Jethro Tull and Enya for a change. Anyway, I thought she had the most beautiful voice of any female singer I'd ever heard. And, to tell the truth, I thought she was as beautiful as her music (but what male fan doesn't?). It was strange to actually be moved to tears by any song (Adrian was sad, Don't and Near You Always hit too close to home). I really have a lot of respect for anyone who can bring my emotions to such a peak, and Jewel did just that. I'm kind of disappointed that I live in New York, have no car, have no money, etc. because I'd really like to buy bootlegs. I know that I'm going to buy her next album right away. About this list: you people seem, for the most part, very friendly and kind. It's nice to see this kind of ambivolent ambience(big words there!). I subscribe to a couple other mailing lists, and the people there can get downright nasty. Well, I'm starting to ramble and I wouldn't want to take up any more of your valuable time. If anyone found this interesting, or is simply feeling in the mood to converse, go ahead and write to me. I may not respond right away(physics is a tough major and requires a lot of work) but I will eventually respond. later gators, newt calkins "I believe in fires at midnight--- when the dogs have all been fed. Hello to all the Everyday Angels out there. Just in case anyone failed to notice (some of you did, right?), I've been gone for the past two weeks. My family and I took a trip from the beautiful state of Washington to Montana and Wyoming to visit the various national parks there. We hiked and packed through Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons, and Glacier and visitted a couple touristy towns. It was great. Anyway, enough of that. Needless to say, I've missed plenty and only skimmed through the digests. So, I've noticed posts regarding the #jewel room on one of the IRC servers. I was wondering if there's a scheduled time for people to be there and if so when and where is it? Besides that, I'm finally going to see Jewel live at the Puyallup Fair on September 22 along with probably about 10,000 people. I guess that will be cool, however there is nothing I would not give to see her in a smaller venue, but... I've also got tickets to a show Ani Difranco's playing at a theatre in Seattle on Halloween (any Ani fans out ther in list land?). I'm still bummed about being out of town when she played "Bumbershoot" (a big festival in Seattle), but that happens. So, just wanted to say "hi", and sorry for the NJC; I wish I had some Jewel content to post. Hope everyones' lives are great and fun, and all their time is filled with pleasant things.
