Duh of course!) Well Mine is a bit different! This is a parody that has to do with computers but I think you'll find the poem a BIT familiar! Abort, Retry, Ignore? Once upon a midnight dreary, fingers cramped and vision bleary, System manuals piled high and wasted paper on the floor, Longing for the warmth of bed sheets, still I sat there doing spreadsheets. Having reached the bottom line I took a floppy from the drawer, I then invoked the SAVE command and waited for the disk to store, Only this and nothing more. Deep into the monitor peering, long I sat there wond'ring, fearing, Doubting, while the disk kept churning, turning yet to churn some more. But the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no token. "Save!" I said, "You cursed mother! Save my data from before!" One thing did the phosphors answer, only this and nothing more, Just, "Abort, Retry, Ignore?" Was this some occult illusion, some maniacal intrusion? These were choices undesired, ones I'd never faced before. Carefully I weighed the choices as the disk made impish noises. The cursor flashed, insistent, waiting, baiting me to type some more. Clearly I must press a key, choosing one and nothing more, From "Abort, Retry, Ignore?" With fingers pale and trembling, slowly toward the keyboard bending, Longing for a happy ending, hoping all would be restored, Praying for some guarantee, timidly, I pressed a key. But on the screen there still persisted words appearing as before. Ghastly grim they blinked and taunted, haunted, as my patience wore, Saying "Abort, Retry, Ignore?" I tried to catch the chips off guard, and pressed again, but twice as hard. I pleaded with the cursed machine: I begged and cried and then I swore. Now in mighty desperation, trying random combinations, Still there came the incantation, just as senseless as before. Cursor blinking, angrily winking, blinking nonsense as before. Reading, "Abort, Retry, Ignore?" There I sat, distraught, exhausted, by my own machine accosted. Getting up I turned away and paced across the office floor. And then I saw a dreadful sight: a lightning bolt cut through the night. A gasp of horror overtook me, shook me to my very core. The lightning zapped my previous data, lost and gone forevermore. Not even, "Abort, Retry, Ignore?" To this day I do not know the place to which lost data go. What demonic nether world us wrought where lost data will be stored, Beyond the reach of mortal souls, beyond the ether, into black holes? But sure as there's C, Pascal, Lotus, Ashton-Tate and more, You will be one day be left to wander, lost on some Plutonian shore, Pleading, "Abort, Retry, Ignore?" Is that not cool? Anywayz if you like mail me personally and I'll see if I can't get ya somemore SHTUFF.... Orkodius@aros.net Don't ask about the orkodius! After tossing and turning for a full 20 minutes I got up and two coffees later I'm back to try to respond to your letter to all us assholes. First its important that I state that I am very fond of Sean because he is from my home state and is also a big Bruce fan. He has shown us a very interesting writing style. At times he seems to be a bit abrasive and at times he steps forward and stands alone on issues he believes in. He even inspired me to write several angry letters. After a few responses to me, I felt he was being misunderstood and I defended his right to say what he felt even if I and many others did not agree with him. He also was kind enough to supply his phone number. I spent over $20 worth of time to call him from CA and found him to be bright and personable. Some of you may think of doing the same. After all, he does include his number in his letters. You all may remember that I even gave him a nickmame, "Big Balls" Sean, named after a Bruce character. I gave him this nickname as a badge of honor. He earned it. He deserved it. And I hoped he would have proudly live up to the crown I gave him. Well I gave it to him and I'm going to take it away and give him his new scarlet letter. I will now think of him as "Secaucus" Sean. For those of you that don't know NJ, Secaucus is within sight of Manhattan. It is in an area called The Meadowlands, a huge swamp. It is also home to Giant Stadium, Brendon Byrne Arena(name change?), beautiful condos along the waters edge, and HQ for many Fortune 500 corporations. This is not the Secaucus that he remindes me of. I am old enough to remember it before all this was built. You see, I had to drive though this area to get to the Lincoln Tunnel. The traffic is the worse in the country. You would just sit in traffic for hours and this was all a swamp. When they first tried to reclaim the land, they did it by making it into the worlds largest garbage dump. If Sean has big balls now, its only because of the toxic dump that this area turned into. As if that wasn't bad enough, this was also the home of the last urban pig farms. You see Sean, your letter reminds me of that horrible smell of burning garbage, pig shit on a hot summer day and toxic waste. I once had George Wordley PhD., work for me. I remember him saying I was the smartest uneducated asshole he ever met. He thought I was a smart person for hiring him for a project. And he used the asshole part as a compliment. I taught him how to be an asshole as well. They don't teach that in school. I think your right. We are all great assholes. But there is another kind of asshole story you remind me of. A friend of mine had a Hemorrhoid operation. He didn't feel right afterwards, so he went for a second opinion. The doctor stuck that big black hose up his rectum(asshole) and probed around. After a few minutes he announced that he discovered the problem. He said the other doctor nicked your optic nerve. My friend was confused and said I thought the optic nerve was for my eyesight, why would it be down there. The doctor agreed but said, its the only explanation I have for why you have such a shitty outlook on life. I was going to just include part of your letter but its important to have eveyone see how wrong you are. First of all, long after Pearl Jam hits the cut-out bins at your local record store, the younger members of this list will have children that they will be bringing to Jewel concerts or maybe by that time movies starring Jewel. You use the Bruce list as an example. If you had submitted a letter like this one to that list, it would have been sent back by the moderator. On this list you had a chance to be heard. On the Bruce list, at least 25 artist other than Bruce are discussed on a regular basis. I have never seen a letter from you complaining. I belong to the Bruce list as well. If you remember, the Bruce list used to have a separate Urgent-List to post news to. It failed and was discontinued. Please respond. But do so in a way that puts you back in the neighborhood you belong. Stop slumming. Untiltled Our first Christmas together I got him an ornament "So twenty years from now, when you are decorating your tree, you'll think of me", I said It was clear with bronze and green stripes. "The bronze stripe reminds me of the color of your hair", he whispered in my ear. Our second Christmas together, I got him another. It was clear with a beautiful angel inside. "'Cause you always call me angel", I told him. Our last Christmas together I got him another. It was clear with a glass Christmas tree inside. "So you remember when we saw the tree lit at Rockefeller Center" I sit now and wonder That if in twenty years, when he is decorating his tree, in his house, with his wife, children and dog Will he pull out those ornaments and think of me Or are they shattered on some deserted road, sparkling in the sunlight? First of all, all these people whining about how the only posts should be about Jewel are only wasting more mail to the lists, the very idea that they are condemning. Secondly, do you anti-NJC people actually think Jewel is so self-centered to want a list dedicated to her that ONLY talks about her. This list was started for fans of Jewel's, and that's what it is still for. Sure other things pop up, but I assure (I know this for a fact) all other lists on Internet talk about different artists other than the one who the list was started for Ex. Happy Rhodes' list: Ecto Ex. Dar Williams list Ex. Paula Cole list it goes on bud... Anyway, what is the big deal? An extra 20 seconds to delete the mails with "NJC" in their header, things used to be so simple around here. Everyone was nice to everyone, now it's like we're all in a competition to see who can be the most obsessive over Jewel. I believe singer/songwriters start writing their music not to become famous and get obsessed fans but rather to deliver their messages. So please, be reasonable anti-NJC people. This isn't the end of the world, and if u think that this list should only be for Jewel, then think again. The majority of this list has atleast listed one NJC content letter and I hope we don't stop soon. I agree the majority should be about Jewel but if other things pop up, then people have the choice whether to view them or not. Like this letter, who knows if half of the list is even reading it!
