Relex, we won't loose Hiranya, she isn't in the best of health unfortunately and sometimes can't post for awhile. Secondly this list has always been a union of people who find common ground in Jewel. Everyone is drawn to Jewel for one reason or another so we all have certain personality traits in common. That's why this list has worked out so nicely. Thirdly, I'm not in favor of even the most mild flaming of Hiranya for her post. Despite being all for NJC with no opinion as to whether or not it must be marked, flaming Hiranya is simply biting the hand that feeds you. What are you gonna do next, tell ppl to only post once a day....then only reply to one subject...jee i know lets start a form a cerncorship and destroy everything this country was supposed to be built on. The simple solution IS what Hiranya asked about....the Jewel-NEWS list, which the last I heard will be coming around soon. Fear not, we are NOT going to lose Hiranya. Who she is (a friend and fellow Everyday Angel), and what she reperesents (a direct contact with Jewel and Lenedra), are both invaluable to the essence of this list and is one of the many appeals of this list. I too, was at first against the Jewel-news list, but that was totally due to my naivety of how the list would function. I thought it would be a totally different list with different posts that MANY folk (including myself) would feel they HAD to subscribe to in addition to the regular Jewel list. "God no....MORE EMAILS!!!", I thought! That is NOT the case at all. Dan Stark (??? I think it was Dan) set me straight. The FACT is that ALL of the content for the Jewel-news list will be taken from the regular Jewel list. (i.e. you would NOT miss out on any news if you don't subscribe to Jewel-news) There would be a panel of trained volunteers (from the regular list), who would have shifts of being "on call" (presumably for a week), and they would take any Jewel-news worthy posts from the Jewel-list and send them the way of the Jewel-news list. Those who subscribe to this list ONLY for the news aspect of it could and would likely subscribe to that list and unsub from the regular list. This likely will include Hiranya, who (I guess) will RECEIVE the Jewel-news list, but still POST to this list....in turn, her posts to this list (along with anyone elses "news" related posts) will get put into the Jewel-news list) Even in the advent of the Jewel-news list, the use of NJC (Non-Jewel Content) in the subject really is imperative simply as a courtesy to the others on this list. There are nearly 600 EMAIL addresses now subscribed (Jewel & Jewel-digest), but that will likely drop after the Jewel-news list starts. How much is anyones' guess. I for one kinda like to read most of the EMAILs on this list, but some I (and others) simply don't care about. So what then is the harm of putting NJC in the front of the subject?? I just a nice thing to do. If the rest of the subject STILL interests me, I will read it. I for one, LOVE the personality of this list and bless the day I found it. I don't want to see it regress into what I've seen on some other lists. The banter, threads and whatnot really have an appeal! Granted, many of the posts should be sent private and not to the list...hopefully that will start to rectify itself. A more dilligent use of "NJC", along with the soon to be unfurled Jewel-news list, can only go to make this list better than it already is. Liz brought up something in here that has been bugging me for awhile. When I'm at a Jewel show, and this has happened twice (naturally, not at JewelStock), some drunken or just ignorant slob always feels they have to make a comment about the size of her tits or "what they'd do to her if they had five minutes alone." This pisses me off to no end. Maybe it's just me, but I think she deserves just a little more respect than that. I don't blame her for walking off the stage at the HFStival. She's not a member of L7 of (heven forfend) Courtney Love. She deserves just as much respect as any other serious artist. Take Tori por ejemplo. You don't seer people throwing anything (though I saw flowers once) or yelling lewd obscenities at her. It makes even an EDA want to put someones head through a wall. Why the hell am I seeing subject headers about the Wallflowers and Pearl Jam, who are my two favorite groups in modern rock by the way, on the fucking Jewel list??!! People who post about non-Jewel subjects shouldn't be posting. This is a list about Jewel, yeah it's a sick and obsessive concept, but that's what the list is for. If you can't keep your comments to yourself or you're so socially deprived that you need to sit at your computer and attempt to communicate with the world by wasting time and airspace by spouting off about things other than Jewel, first get a life, you're a loser. Second, stop pestering us with irrelevent messages about your favorite group or artist, what the best movie out in the theatres is, your favorite brand a mocha-latte, what the best episode of the Simpsons is, whether or not Chandler is gay, and other such unrelated topics. Even the stuff about artists who many of us perceive as similar to Jewel and possibly of interest to Jewel fans, such as Tori Amos, Sarah McLaughlin, Melissa Etheridge, etc. Even that has gotten to be too much as of late. If you absolutely need to mention thes things, do them at the PS at the bottom of a message about Jewel. If you have nothing to say about Jewel, don't send out a message to the fucking list! I try to keep up with this list and I try to be nice and at the same time present my opinions and I hate to be the bad guy as many of you will think I am by saying this. But to me it's just common sense. I subscribe to only one other mailing list am they are the only two reasons I relly use email, and to talk to my friends at other colleges when semester resumes. I don't mean to call computer geeks losers but hey, if you're so bored that you have to send a message out to the JEWEL LIST that has nothing to do with Jewel, then well, you're part of the problem. I don't talk about Jewel on the Springsteen list, partly out of respect and partly as to not spread the word about her. And when I mention Bruce on the Jewel list it's about how they relate or a similarity between songs or something. I don't just make posts like...NJC: New Springsteen album, or NJC: Springsteen tour dates go on sale tomorrow, who's excited, or NJC: When is Bruce gonna reunite to E Street Band. And I read something briefly about Hiranya thinking about leaving the list because of too much irrelevent babbling. She is one of the only people on this list who's posts I make sure to read. Let's not lose the person who was the reason Jewelstock happened because some of us just can't help gossipping about rhetorical, trivial bullshit that has nothing to do with why this list was created Just being my typical opinionated self, I could be wrong, but I'm not. Later, Sean Hooks PS(see, here's where that stuff goes, not whole messages about them): If you're into great lyrics, check out the new band Farm Dogs. They just released their first CD. The band was formed by Bernie Taupin, the guy who actually wrote all of Elton John's songs. Bye from Jersey, hope you enjoyed my ramblings, they are kinda relevent, no?
