Jewel hasn't highlighted herself as a sex object per se, but surely we can agree that she uses her looks and sexuality in her performance and music. IMO Courtney doesn't have the looks that Jewel does, but neither is a model. Actually Jewel does have nice high cheekbones.. anyway, i just don't want eveyone to slam on Courtney so much. I'm a fan of her music, not her person. Just lay off- everyone in the business has their own recipies for success, yes even our angel. Saying you don't care about fame has become one of the classic lines. Some are blatant, some are subtle. Some succeed, some don't. Watching these methods can be almost as entertaining as listening to their music for me. Ah, the politics of the music industry. Jewel is either truly a master politician and talented artist or terribly wonderful and a talented artist. That's for each of us to decide- but no one is pure anymore in the public eye with a music company puppeting their strings and influencing their actions. How hard they resist the tugs away from their true selves determines their integrity not only as an artist but as a person. Sorry to burst your bubbles. That's my argument against Jewel's perfection. Your beliefs/milage may vary. And yes, i still love Jewel, imperfections and all. After all, without Atlantic, i would never have heard of Tori or Jewel. There is an exclusive Video interview with our one and only Miss Jewel Kilcher. She is great in it!! The video is about 2-3mins long. It's really cool. There is also a neat music video with Vanessa-Mae (for you who don't know her, she plays an ELECTRIC VIOLIN). The music magazine runs for about $12.95 US and is truly worth every penny just for the Jewel Interview. There are also another cool interview with the Noel Hogan of the Cranberries. It's 95% the same post with a few edits. First, I'd like to announce that I will be the administrator for the JewelStock Tape tree. I would also like to explain to the list why exactly this is taking so long thus far: 1) Alan Bershaw is doing the mastering and he's had some logistical difficulties, including waiting for certain tapes to arrive. The tapes of the shows involved did not arrive on his doorstep in nice-and-easy-ready-to-tree packages...he's had alot of editing work to do. *** NEW- (8/29) The first "four" seeds are just starting to get their master tapes. 2) the tree is going to be (in Ken W's words) "a huge mother" and we have some special things planned for it too. We are trying to work out the logistics of it all. *** NEW- (Most done now, 8/29) 3) being the administrator, I feel I will not be ready until Labor Day Weekend. *** NEW- (8/29) We also DID NOT want to start until all the seeds have master tapes....when I post this weekend (Sunday or Monday), one of the four "seeds" still will not have his tapes, but we will begin the "branch recruitment" process none-the-less. PLEASE do not EMAIL myself or Alan yet for info on how to be a branch or for answers to questions about the tapes or the tree. Many questions will be answered in my "branch recruitement" post this weekend. It will be followed by a (hopefully) JewelStock Tape FAQ which I intend to post twice a week during the run of the tree, which is expected to be up to three months. Lastly, we will be looking for 40 to 48 branches. The branches will be signing up for ALOT of work, as each SET of tapes (three 90 minute cassettes per set) will take 4.5 hours to dub. Because of this, those of you wishing to start trees on some of the other shows Jewel has performed in the last month 'may' wish to hold off until after the JewelStock tree has run it's course. We are NOT asking this of you, it's just a thought/idea that came up during brainstorming. Mike Connell P.S. While I said, "please no questions", I will invite _suggestions_ from folk who treed tapes before. I've already talked with MANY on this in preparation for the "Sequoia of Jewel trees", but if any of you wanna toss in some hints on your experiences at running these things, I'm all ears. The way it came over to me is that everything that happens to us, everything we think and feel and that goes through our mind leaves an impression on us and builds on our personality. And our perception of reality comes from that contruction of experiences we've built up in our lives. Everything that happens is an experience and it becomes a part of us. There's no "good" or "bad" occurances because everything adds to us the same way -- it's how we handle these experiences that determines whether it's a good thing or a bad thing. Do we learn from it? Do we take advantage of the opportunities it gives us? Do we use our experiences to help enlighten others who haven't had the opportunity? It wasn't until I payed a visit to Aaron's home page that I got to see what she looked like. If I didn't know her and she was walking down the street I wouldn't pay her any more mind than I would of any other attractive person I'd see. (As opposed to, say, Claudia Schieffer.)
