Because I really believe that everyone is perfect in their own right -- in a sense, you could say that everyone is perfect at being who they are. No one could do it any better, and because of that people should take pride in themselves because they, because we, are all individuals. The very notion that we exist and live and think and breath and especially feel, that's where true beauty and perfection lie. "Perfect" is an arbitrary term that describes standards by which most people can judge something or someone. But unless it's one person's job to define that term, I believe perfection can be and is very much in the eye of the beholder. Something may not be perfect to any of you, but as long as it is to me, then that's all that really matters; to me, that something is perfect. Or that someone. I'm not making an argument that anybody or anything is empirically perfect, but I think something really only needs to be perfect to you for it to be perfect at all. volt "Okay, WHO WANTS GUM?" ------------------------------ From: the emperor of smurfs Date: Wed, 28 Aug 1996 22:47:50 -0400 (EDT) Subject: Re: NJC-Wallflowers, Jazzmatazz On Wed, 28 Aug 1996, Rich Melko wrote: > Someone told me that the lead singer is Bob Dillain's son. For example mathemeticians think about how things work out mathematically. Scientists ponder the mysteries of the physical world. Psychiatrists (sp?) think they know what your thinking and tell you what you should already know for yourself. I think about the mind a lot, plus other things but I know not everyone thinks about that. I know my roommates don't think about it by the looks they give me when I start spurting philosophies about reality. >Gillian--I *think* I disagree. Not instinctual reaction but also not emotional, I don't think. I think emotion is the truest reaction and my first reaction is not always emotional. I don't know what it is and I grant you that it is not instinct. Now that I think about it, instinct is non judgemental and caring. Children are taught to notice the difference in race, to hate, maybe even to fear. I am trying hard to let my emotional responses overcome my learned ones. I think these ideas all tie together. Perception is learned. Our world is our perception so therefore we are taught the world. Does that make any sense? Tried to be less wordy. I hope this is OK to post. It does however imply that Courtney Love has a more perverted and less intelligent following then Jewel. It also implies that Courtney loves draws attention to her sexuality in a blatant dirty way. Jewel has a way of being cute, which she does intentionally which can be sexy but it's done much more tastefully. Also examine their features. Courtney's plainess says "If you don't like me then fuck you" Jewel's plainess says "I'm a real person and I don't have to deck myself out in make up and look like a plastic doll, I love who I am" I guess they are similar in that kind of way. Jewel succeeds by making people love her and Courtney by making people want her. Even with the crowd that Jewel personality draws imagine her much much prettier. Enough people think she's pretty now. With a personality and sweatness like hers and even better looks she'd be overlooked on the inside to be lusted after by common people. The reason Matthew Sweet doesn't make it in this bussiness is because the common people don't have the intelligence to understand a word he says. Jewel would draw a following of perverted bricks like Courtney has by highlighting herself as a sex object.
