Shane is the oldest. He is 24 and has three little babies (so Jewel is an Auntie!), married, lives in Alaska. He's a very talented artist and poet, a quiet easy going guy who works with developmentally challenged adults. Shane has an excellent singing voice and writes songs sometimes. Shane is snowed in up in Anchorage Alaska where he is planning a series of art works when the ground thaws. He'll expose the roots of trees, weave a basket with the live roots put some cool items in the basket and then cover it all up again. He sounds like a pretty esoteric guy! Her younger brother is Atz (rhyms with lots). He's 19. Really good looking. Just got back from roaming around Europe for three months. Works at a ski resort. Likes to snowboard. He's really neat. And Lenedra says he writes and sings as well as Jewel (very different style) but hasnt decided if he has any interest in doing the sort of thing shes doing. He wants to take a bit more time deciding whats next. He plays a mean harp. (harmonica). May be on her next CD. But he commercial fishes during the summers and he may be out on a boat during the recording. Of course you are familiar with Nikkos from the song. I did that exactly that. I stopped right outside of New London for a "Pizzer". Then I arrived at Motel 6 in Mansfield around four o'clock. I read the paper for an hour and picked up my two lawn tickets. Then I drove to the Great Woods. I notived ticket where on sale so I tried my luck! They had a seat 16 rows back, center. It was fabulous. So I bought it. I sold one of my tickets to a young lady at cost. Then I ran into a friend, Chris May who I was scheduled to meet there to exchange promos. We talked for an half an hour and it came out that he wasn't staying to see Jewel because he couldn't afford to. Seeing Jewel should never be an economic decision, Everyone should be allowed to enjoy the voice of an our angel. So I gave him my remaining lawn ticket hoping it might reflect possitively on EDAs and Jewelfans in general. I was sure to be as far away as possible when the afgan whigs took stage. They are a loud and irratating group, that's being nice! I sat down to see Jewel and game the people next to me some kind of introduction on who she is, hoping to sell them on buying "Pieces of You". Then Jewel came on with Summertime. Everyone was really polite and quite, or least though of us who were seated. Song after song I heard people around me talking about how good she is. I was so proud of her! Right away she mentioned how starstruck she was to be on the stage Neil Young was going to take in a half an hour. Then she told us what a Neil Young fan she is. I thought if Jewel and Matthew Sweet are both Young fans I should give him a listen. Anyway Jewel sang WWSYS and got a little rise out of the crowd and then Chime Bells for a big rise out of the crowd. She offered to go faster twice and the guy behind me asked "She's not going to is she?" I just gave him a look and said "never say never". She backed my words and yodeled faster and more beautfully then I ever remember her yodeling(this was my tenth concert). She said thank you and left before all the clapping quited. The seats continued to fill and Neil took the stage. He can rock, I'll say that for him. But it was way to loud. I should have brought ear plugs. Everyone stood up in front of their seats for Neil. Then he sang something I recognized:Heart of Gold. I now knew who he was. so I left. Then I decided. If I don't stay for N.Young tomorrow night I can leave at 8:30 and make it back to New York by 12:30. So I cancelled my Thursday reservation and changed my plans. At eleven o'clock I decided to turn in. I'll post 8/22 sometime tonight. I would agree that not voting is very much like saying that you just don't give a damn about what happens to you, or to the rest of the world, but the effectiveness of voting must be questioned. Voting is like cruising down a train rail and coming to a fork where you're allowed to choose right or left... but you MUST choose either right or left, you're prohibited from turning around or going straight ahead because you're on steel rails. Now, I know that metaphors drive some people up the wall, but they're handy. I suppose that part of me, when I vote, feels insulted because I'm playing their ridiculous game. You don't want to NOT play, because then you've lost the tiny bit of control that you have... but playing the game makes you feel like Jewel when she is sternly coerced into yodeling on television shows, like you're just choosing the lesser of two evils. (There's my jewel content=) ) Too much idealism keeps us from getting pissed off and putting our collective foot down, and you won't hear the US government complaining about that. They like when we're kept busy doing harmeless things. Now, violence sucks and most of the time is completely unnecessary, but flip through your history books and take notice of how rarely things in the political arena have been changed without the people rising up together and scaring the pants off of the folks that are sitting at the top. OK. This is the Jewel mailing list and look what I just finished writing. I am now officially a psycho=) I hope that everyone who is eligible to vote does so, but I also hope that everyone isn't content with voting only. Educate yourself and keep your eyes open. I didn't have to check out until noon so I lingered in the shower, packed, double checked my room and shifted my life into the backseat of my Jeep Cherokee. I wanted to get their early in hope of getting another excellent seat like the previous night. Although if worse came to worse at least I had two reserved seats in my hand. I went to Boston University for awhile so I decided to spend the afternoon in the old neighborhood. Not that I would meet up with an ex-neighbor but rather because I knew the surrounding area. What was there to do etc. etc. By the time I got up theia and found a place to pahk the cah It was almost noon. So I stopped into some record stores.(planet records on Commonwealth Ave. has a nice bootleg selection) and stopped for lunch. I arrived at the venue around four o'clock. Good seats became available around 5:30 so I snatched mine. Then I sold my two $30.50 tickets for a combine of $50.00 and paid $38 for one good seat(not as good as the previous day.) It was 26th row. I spoke to the lady next to me for awhile. She is a single mother with three kids who loved Young as a child. She didn't know Jewel so I started sing WWSYS and she picked it up halfway through, that it was all over the radio. Jewel took the stage as if she was upset or in a hurry or something. She sang Summertime to a non-existant but polite crowd. I was sure to make some noise between songs so to encourage her but she seemed dead, at least compared to most of my previous concerts. I told myself it was because of the flight she had ahead of her. A smile snuck out during Satelite that made me smile with her. Now, for the first time, I like the song. I've been know to feed off of Jewel's vibrations, I felt sad, when she was sad, angry when she was angry etc. This time I felt like I was at work on Tuesday, bussiness as usual. When she started Never Trust your pink Fleshy heart the night got dark and the crowd started filling in the seats. Then Jewel started coming to life. People again where polite and warm. By the end of that song I felt a warmth inside like a girlfriend's hug after a bad day. Then I saw Jewel crack a big smile. Who Will Save Your Soul, got it's share of applause, but she seemed to die down again. Again she finished with Chime Bells but unlike last time she raced through it. She did not ask the crowd if she should go faster and she did not yodel her superfast version. Then she said "My name is Jewel, have a good night." I was about to leave dissappointed that Jewel was just going through the motions. I got up, walked toward the exist and I saw Lenedra getting up. So I yelled to Lenedra and she turned back around. I just told to have pleasant flight with no desire to detain her but rather just to say hello for all the EDAs. She saw my Jewelstock shirt and asked if I was a list member. I was proud at that moment to among a union of Jewelans. I told I was and we talked for ten or fifteen minutes. She said Jewel wasn't in such a rush but the venue is strict about ending on time. She also said that Hiranya would soon post the list of songs on the second album. On the subject of Hiranya she also said that Hiranya loves to read about concerts so she made me promise to post about this one. Posting about concerts isn't my thing but a promise is a promise. She also said she would be in Albany tomorrow night. So I grabbed a grindah and drove home. I entered the door around one and got to work on time but exhausted.
