Well long-time and semi-long EDA's...looks like we are gonna have to go thru this every two months or so, what with all the new list joiners every month. (NO offense newcomers...just a fact of life...new people don't know the stuff veterans know, so they ask and we answer, a natural chain of "questions & answers" if you ask me.) Haze, this one's been settled a long time. That was NOT a gig, it's a grape lollipop. Blow up the pic and all is clear. Jewel has even been asked (at JewelStock too I believe) and she said it was a grape lolly. WHO EVER RUNS THE FAQ!! LOOK'S LIKE A GOOD ONE TO ADD!! I - - received a letter from Atlantic Records that I am violating copyright laws - - by posting copyrighted Jewel lyrics on the internet and I need to remove - - them now to keep my website. Within two hours, I received an email from my Huh? Hmm. - - server provider, Sprynet, saying I need to remove copyrighted lyrics and I - - will be blocked. I wonder if this is only the album songs they are referring - - to or do they own anything she writes even if she doesn't record it on - - Atlantic? I wouldn't think so. I wonder if this means I can just take the - - album lyrics off and be okay? Is this the record company or Jewel's - - management cracking down? The mad bomber? A anti-Jewel person? Someone - - trying to sabotage what I would think is a great free promotional tool for - - Jewel? What harm is this doing? Seems to me like it only helps her. I would write Atlantic and get confirmation, CCing your ISP. That doesn't make sense. Try web@atlantic-records.com, and include the mail you got. If anything they should come after me since i have screendumps of the concert they put on up... hmm. All they have to do is go to Yahoo to find me... hmm. - - Is this a first strike? Look at the all the lyrics out there on the web for - - artists of all kinds. Heck, Tori's on Atlantic and has eighty sites devoted - - to her, many with lyrics. This is what the older members on the list were getting a bit riled up about. This should be in the FAQ. That wasn't a cig. That was a lollipop. Grape. Even Hiranya confirmed it. At Jewelstock, Jewel said she didn't smoke and said that the picture was of her and a lollipop and I along with some others shouted "grape!" She smoked a cigar once and hated the taste. Well, I just checked and it's NOT in the FAQ....so I retract my retraction. Let's get this in the FAQ so we'll have even more stuff in the FAQ that folk won't read ;-) Mike ------------------------------ From: NeOblCar@aol.com Date: Wed, 21 Aug 1996 23:17:38 -0400 Subject: NJC: this is what I get to deal with In a message dated 96-08-21 22:56:46 EDT, Bob thought it would be intelligent to write: <> Gosh, could of thought I said I was posting orginally because I hated to be politically labeled. Let's get this in the FAQ so we'll have even more stuff > in the FAQ that folk won't read ;-) Mr. Connell is going crazy:) Isn't Adam supposed to be handling the FAQ. And isn't he in enough doo doo right now? Poor guy. Well, it looks like Jeff isn't moderating any more (or else he's moderating very quickly). Why don't people read the FAQ? Or at least save it for later use? We've had two people already try to unsubscribe and send the message to the list tonight. I mean, the instructions are right at the beginning of the FAQ, you know? And newbies wouldn't be bugging people about boots if they read the FAQ and found out about Rare Angels and Innerchange Days, but noooooo, they have to barge in without even having the decency to sit around and figure out what we're about or even read the FAQ and instead ask for boots. Anyways, I'm always surprised that people on this list so willingly take on the newbies clamoring for boots. I guess they're everyday angels while I'm an everyotherotherday angel;) Paul "ranting" KIm ------------------------------ From: pjk@cybercom.net (Phil Kelnhofer) Date: Thu, 22 Aug 1996 00:37:31 -0400 Subject: Great Woods show 9/21 This will be quick as I just got back and I have to get a good night's sleep since I have a job interview tomorrow. I missed Afgan Whigs because I got there late and was wondering around for the end of their set looking for Dennis. I finally found Ken W. and then Dennis between Afgan Whigs and Jewel's sets. Just after we were all together the lights went down and Jewel came out. Set list Summertime (w/ Zev on Bass) Near You Always *Satellite *Fragile Heart Deep Water *Sometimes it Be That Way *Run, Tonto, Run (Jewel on Electic Guitar) *Foolish Games *Love Me Just Leave Me Alone *Never Trust Your Pink Fleshy Heart to a Carnivore Asshole (that's what she called it) *WWSYS Chime Bells *=with band Mark on Guitar, Zev on Bass, and Frank? on Drums The crowd finally started to get into her around "Foolish Games" they really were into it for "Chime Bells." Dennis and I decided she should yodel first to get the crowd's attention and then play a rockin' song like "Love Me..." then she could play whatever she wanted. I like SIBTW acoustic. I miss the Goldilocks verse, but she definitely said "Jewel" after the Romeo line (I paid attention 'cause I missed it at NH when she said "Sweetheart"). Mark's cool solo during "Satellite" was missing as well and I love that. I like "Carnivore" better before it changed. It now seems slower plus a chunk is taken out in the middle (the NH people know what I am talking about) I think a verse may be missing or change, but I've only heard it twice the new way so I can really tell what's different. One good thing, and Dennis agreed with me here, this is the first time we had seen her yodel and really seem to enjoy it. She asked "Should I go faster" a couple times, and had to wait for the cheers to die down each time before she could keeping going. The other times I have seen her yodel it seemed forcedand honestly was as enjoyable for me. Oh yeah, Neil Young rocked. I've never been a big Neil fan, but I am now. Jewel has been very lucky with the people she has opened for (i.e. Neil and Bob Dylan plus many others). Neil really knows how to rock one minute and go acoustic and slow the next even in the larger venues. I hope Jewel pays attention to these guys. Phil ps. I got rid of the "T-Shirt Guy" nickname because I confusing people I email unrelated to the list (and I got sick of explaining what it meant). ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V1 #493 ***************************
