The following excerpts are from the January 5, 1996 issue of the WWW-based version of Gavin, a radio industry trade journal dealing with music research (URL - http://www.gavin.com/issues/iss19960105/feature.html): Jewel (Atlantic) Gavin: From Alaska, Jewel moved to San Diego and lived out of a van. Seen on VH1 recently dueting with Melissa Etheridge. Khirra: There seems to be an up and down, roller coaster ride. But I do see her flowering. Lots of radio play and tons of gossip surrounding Jewel. There's a lot of crossover hits surrounding her. Pretty much of a bright future. I gave her the title of Chakra Mandala, not to be confused with Winnie Mandela. Michelle: This girl's just beginning to shine. She's very psychic. She's got a lot of potential. She's determined to be all that she can be; her problem is she sort of demands perfection from herself, but she does not exactly do constructive criticism very well. She's going to go far. '96...to mid-'98 before there's any kind of slack-off with her. [End of Excerpts] For a prediction made in January, "lots of radio play" and "crossover hits," isn't too shabby. But, Chakra Mandala? Here's a blurb from the April 19 issue (URL - http://www.gavin.com/issues/iss19960419/reviews.html): Remember when a psychic friend of ours predicted big things for Jewel at the start of the year? And she hadn't even heard her sing? She knows just how to turn a phrase here or hit a high note there. Alternative story is impressive, and appearances like the one scheduled for Monday (April 22) on Letterman can only help spread the word about this amazing artist and her music. Jerry Since this is my first post I should probably say that I discovered Jewel when I channel-surfed into the middle of the Lauren Hutton show on Thanksgiving Eve '95. I bought her album that Sunday. I've seen Jewel perform twice here in Houston: in March, at the Rhino Room, for the KRBE Acoustic Lunch (a really great show) and in May at the Urban Art Bar (). Since Jewel has gone platinum, I can safely assert that I am among her top 1,000,000 fans. - --------------------------------------------------------- Get Your *Web-Based* Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - --------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ From: "jerry shinley" Date: Fri, 16 Aug 1996 10:09:04 -0700 Subject: Airplay for HALFIM Here in Houston, KRBE (104.1 FM) has been playing Jewel's rendition of "Have a Little Faith in Me" from the Phenomenon soundtrack. In fact, I just heard it about half an hour ago. (I think someone might have requested it.) Jerry Strange Fact: If you hold the Spin magazine picture up to the light, it looks like the cranberries' Dolores O'Riordan is sticking out of Jewel's ear. - --------------------------------------------------------- Get Your *Web-Based* Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - --------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ From: PAUL KYUSAM KIM Date: Fri, 16 Aug 1996 18:11:53 -0400 (EDT) Subject: Re: (NJC) Re:Patti Rothberg On Fri, 16 Aug 1996, Anand Gajjala wrote: > Does anyone else who has her CD notice that the track list on the back of the jewel case lacks an entry for the title track, but it ("Between the 1 and the 9") is track 19 (on my CD player anyway)? I don't know about the lack of a title track listing (i don't have the cd), but I do believe that the hidden track is deliberately track 19 because of the numbers "1" and "9" that make up 19. And between the "1" and the "9" is where Patti busked on the NY subway system and is the name of the album and blah blah blah. I was very excited to see Jewel on "Regis & Kathy Lee" last week (I think it was last week hehehe). The only other time I've gotten to see her perform on television (besides her video) was on the Jay Leno show but I didn't really know who she was back then. I love how she gets up there are really sings, NOT lip-synch! She's fabulous! The other reason I'm posting is because back when y'all were all talking about JewelStock, some of you posted the urls to various places on web where you could get a map or a virtual trip-ticket to places around the country. I need to take a couple trips to some colleges and I can't find those urls. If those of you who have the urls could email me I would really appreciate it! Thanks in advance! :) - - Monika... a very new but very loyal Jewel fan! ------------------------------ From: "Miguel A.
