She was nice to Jewel. Not so sure if I want to go so far as to say that I LIKE Kathy Lee, but she WAS nice to Jewel and I believe that she sincerely likes Jewel and her music. On Jewel's first R&KL appearance (6/14/95 - Regis was on vacation and they had some non-entity on as substitute male co-host) Kathy Lee did a comparatively long interview with Jewel. Yes, of course it had the obligatory yodeling, but for a daytime talk show it was surprisingly substantive. Jewel was actually given time to finish her sentences. At the end, as the applause rises in volume, you can hear Kathy Lee say to Jewel (almost off-mike): "Good Luck, but you really don't need it. You certainly don't need our show." Well, Jewel wasn't that big a star yet in June 1995. In 1996, now that her career has taken off, a remark like that is so self-evident as to be a no-brainer. But to say something like that in June of 1995 shows a remarkable early appreciation of Jewels talent (at least for a busy talk show host). Bob (No great fan of Kathy Lee, but ...) Tom even played a couple Jewel songs because people were shouting at him to play Jewel. I thought that was cool that he played some of her music because I know he can't stand her. Let's take it to the beach (not the streets). Venice Beach. Jewel is Jewel and is not going to compromise herself. I think we've all seen that. If she ever does there are plenty of people on this list who would speak up about it. No one needs to make rp and klg look like stuttering donkeys; they do it well all on their own. Howie did it the day before. Just insert a new donkey and look how uncomfortable klg was. Jewel did not mean to hurt them and I am sure their egos are still intact. As it being her responsibility to honor her hosts, I don't see her tracking in mud or belching. Although she did mention she did pretty well with outhouses and lawns. You can look at it many ways and two of them are: She is out there to sell cd's and goes by a set game plan to become rich, rich rich. Or she has her convictions on what she wants to say with her music and any chance she gets she is going to do it. I go with this one. I am a firm believer that money and fame mean very little to this sweetheart. I have nothing against the show or the two hosts It takes a lot of guts to do what they do. And I commend klg for doing her part in stopping other countries from using child labor and oppressed conditions. Hope this did'nt hurt anymore than a rug burn. Still your Del Mar Fair friends.
