We need your help! Sorry if you receive this many times, but I would like to spread this announcement to as many places as possible, so I'm cross-posting it to many lists. If you would like more info on this organization, please contact myself or Jason Kuykendall . In the meantime, please subscribe to the list... instructions follow... Fellow Traders & Tapers We are lucky enough to have the ability to spread terrific music because of bands that allow us to tape. While many bands start out allowing taping, many stop the practice when they see their shows wind up on ILLEGAL bootleg CD's. We, the trading community, have the ability to curb this practice of selling bootlegs. Traders Against Bootleg Sales -TABS- is an organization dedicated to stopping the illegal sale of live audio recordings. In order to achieve our goal, we need the help of those who benefit most from being able to tape; tapers and traders. If the illegal bootleg industry continues to prosper, then we will find ourselves unable to easily enjoy the music that we now trade so freely. We can help to stop the musical parasites if we come together as a whole and let them know that we don't want what they're peddling. If you would like to be a part of the Traders Against Bootleg Sales (TABS) movement, please subscribe to the list: To subscribe to the list, send an e-mail to listproc@lists.colorado.edu Leave the subject line blank. Lady J performed the standard request (WWSYS) and began You Were Meant For Me, as they went to commercial. As usual on the show, Jewel was limited to only two minutes of singing (standard rule on the show). Naturally the antichrist (Kathie Lee) couldn't keep her mouth shut throughout the interview period. At least Jewel was able to explain her influences coming from writers and not sixties pop stars, as the twit (KL) expected. Per standard talk show requests, however, Lady J was forced to yodel, although she did give Regis a little response and facial gesture when he mentioned the yodeling. Anyway, it was better than the Rosie interview. I hung up then called again and asked if they were going to do it in the middle of the night too. He laughed and said no, and then wished me good luck. I personally don't like the thought of Jewel's shows being sold on CDs for profit of others, mainly because there is no need to BUY her shows when they are so readily available to me (being here on the list) and because she is still touring and new shows are constantly available. However, recent laboratory studies indicate that not ALL of Jewel's fans are on the 'net (yeah..I couldn't believe it at first either) and these digitally-disadvantaged people don't have the slightest clue that our tape-trading "community" exists. Bootleg CDs may be the only means for other people to get a chance to hear Jewel's music (or other artists for that matter) live apart from actually GOING to a show. (BTW.. has anyone actually SEEN a Jewel bootleg CD for sale yet?) I've purchased numerous bootleg CDs prior to discovering the tape-trading sub-culture on the 'net. I really can't see myself buying an REM boot at this point because I could get a truckload of them within the week if I just hopped online and sent out some email. I WILL however continue to purchase ANY and ALL Tom Waits bootlegs that I come across because he hasn't been touring much since the 80's and his shows are usually hard to find, even on the net. So, I go both ways on this issue. I guess I'm just fanatically indecisive. See ya later, alligator. Cheezy Whiz Oh! One more thing.. Just got my JewelStock photos back -- thanks Greggor!
