I guess the MJB is pretty much taken care of for the time being, so it seems pretty pointless that I even brought the subject up. Anyway, being new to the list, I figured I'd overcome my natural shyness and post my favorites list like everyone else. In no particular order: Jewel, Belly-Tanya Donnely, The Breeders, Throwing Muses, Nirvana, Primus, The Murmurs, Frente, Kiss, George Jones, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Miles Davis, Glenn Miller, Judas Priest, Lush, The Fastbacks, Joan Jett, Melissa Etheridge, Janis Joplin, a whole mess of others that I naturally can't think of right now. You get the idea- most anything goes. My biggest problem now is finding new music since I live in rural northern Colorado and the only thing available is the immensely popular, already commercial, unreachable type of music that I'm trying to get away from. I really appreciate the music suggestions that are posted from time to time since then I can possibly get a hold of it if I know what I'm looking for. If you're noticing the incredibly long post (for me at least) it's because I'm trying to condense as much as I can into one post, rather than several. Just doing my part to help in these troubled, moderated times. I also noticed something else, ever since I've signed up for this list, an unusually large amount of the traffic seems to come from various Harris's. Does anybody else talk? Are they not allowed? ;) I'm also really depressed since I can't go to any of the upcoming Jewel concerts. The closest is in Columbus, but it's still too far away for a lone jaunt, and I don't think I've heard whether there are any EDA's in Colorado. I'm only 16 anyway, so I'm possibly not the best choice for a car pooling type situation anyway. Something about a federal law prohibiting the transport of minors across state lines comes to mind. Here's hoping that Regis and Kathy Lee at least partially makes up for it. Yeah, right. I just hope I can stop myself from doing violence to television every time Kathy Lee says anything. I woke up today at about 1p.m. ...ahhhh...a very refreshing sleep! Well anyway... I had a dream about the Columbus concert and I think I will share it with you! Well I got to the concert and it was inside instead of outside....and when I walked in I realized that I had forgot my glasses, I didn't have JEWEL written on my forehead, and I didn't even have a Jewel shirt on(I did have a shirt on though). When I walked in my sister said that she forget something and went home (2 hours away). So in walks my father to supervise me. I don't even live with this man and I can't stand to be around him that long or I will go insane....so I was like oh my @#$%^&*!@$#$@^, etc. I had a really big bundle of dirty laundry in my hands too and it kept dropping and people were staring at me....and everyone was smoking in this bar area of the venue. I walked into the auditorium and there was a slanted, carpeted balcony with no seats...this was the lawn. I immediately located all the EDA's but they were sitting against the wall in the back so I went up front and sat right behind the railing. As soon as I sat down they announced Jewel and she came out from beneath the stage. (weird I know) She was wearing the purple shirt with the whole in her arm pit again. She stood by the side of the stage and all the EDAs stood up and cheered. She looked at the crowd in the back...totally overlooking me in the front and pointed to you guys and smiled. I stood up and the slanted balcony took me off guard and I almost fell over the railing. I tried to clap and scream but I made no sound. Jewel stood on the side of the stage for a few more seconds....picking her nose. For some weird reason there was a pool in front of the stage and these two five year olds were swimming and making noise. Jewel said to the audience, "they have this pool here in case I get hot I can take a dip." She gave the audience one of those hilarious looks (like the ones at JS in between poems) and everyone started cracking up. She sort of laughed and told us to stop because we were embarassing her. Then.......my Golden Retriever came in because she was scared of the thunder outside and jumped up on my day bed. I obviously woke up because of the 80lbs crushing my legs. That was a weird dream wasn't it? Hi Sarah!!! Hi Sarah!!!! (my best friend who lives in Toledo that just joined the list. I introduced her to Jewel back in December!!!! :)) SMILE!!!!!! THese two topics tie together. I just bought Martin Sexton's album Black Sheep (his second or third). I saw him perform live thrice this summer and found him to be quite amazing. He combines and uses influences of blues, jazz, gospel, folk, and 50's rock n roll. He has an incredibly voice that is sweet and can be gruff. And he does a lot of falsetto singing (sometimes sounds like a blues woman); one of his songs (It's not on the album, but he does perform it live and it might be on his previous album(s)) he does a kinda-slow-yodel (very beautiful) that is the chorus of the song. And...I noticed on his album that Patty Griffin actually does quite a bit of backup singing for him. He's from Boston. Now he lives in Northampton, MA.
