I mean >since its a Sndtrack and not a Jewel written song, jewel can't sing it at >one of her concerts, right? Jewel can sing whatever she wants at concerts. I'm not sure what the legalities of playing covers of songs by other artists in concerts are, but people do it all the time, often without explicitly crediting the original artist (perhaps assuming that everyone will recognize the song), and without prior permission. Two years ago I asked Tori Amos to play a cover of a song that she had never performed in concert before, and to my great surprise, she actually did. The song? "Lovesong" by the Cure (which she performs regularly now.) She *might* have gotten permission to play the song two hours later, that very night, but I highly doubt it! But I don't think Jewel particularly wants to do a lot of the songs she hasn't written herself, and that's completely understandable. I think "Behind the Wall" is the only cover I've ever heard Jewel do, although I have heard Jewel do snippets of 80's pop songs in a mini-medley during POY. That particular coincidence totally blew me away because he was the first Jewel list person I ever met in person (last summer), and that first time we met, he raved about Weeping Tile (having heard them for the first time on the radio during the drive to my house). Oddly enough, the connection didn't dawn on me for at least a couple of months ("wait a second... Sarah Harmer??? I've seen her before!") Over and out, Angela Now Playing: Fantistic Four :) Hehe (on t.v., silly) ------------------------------ From: Crash Boy Date: Sat, 3 Aug 1996 13:03:25 +0000 Subject: NH Hotel News - PLEASE READ!!!! hi guys! okay, this is what i came up with. i took the area lodging list from dennis' web page and instead of calling EVERY single hotel (since i live in NJ), i decided to call the ones closest to the venue, which is 169 Ocean Blvd. so, i called those hotels that were the 1-400 range. after numerous hangups because people won't rent for one night on weekends or people were booked, i found this great price at the Moulton Hotel Inc. on 245 Ocean Blvd. $20 a night for a double bedroom + $10 per person. it would be less for kids (selena?). so that's pretty much $40 a night for 4 people. they're well aware that it's only for one night. they were also elderly people (a guy and his wife), but after talking slowly and being patient, they're really quite nice. okay, here's the deal: anyone who's going to the NH show and wants to room with everyone in one place MUST do this: 1. email me saying that you're going, and if please can, tell me how many rooms, if you're gonna be with other people/EDAs. i have to call this guy back on monday, and give him a definite number of rooms that will be needed. he does have other customers, y'know. and please send your email with "NH Hotel Room" in the subject to make things easier on me with the EDA cover tape and all. (just a reminder, people send me those requests :) 2. once you do that, please feel free to call the hotel up yourself at (603)926-2951. if lady answers, try to ask for her husband. if not, then just say that you'd like to make reservations as part of the Jewel Group. that will help matters infinitely. 3. PLEASE EMAIL ME FAST! like i said, i need to give him a definite number of rooms. i tried to take an educated guess at maybe 10 rooms. people don't fail me. if you don't email me by monday, i'm sure you could probably just call the guy up and make reservations. i don't think he would mind if the number of room reservations goes over the original count. okay, that's the drift of things. let's do this fast and get it going soon. thanks. eric :) ------------------------------ From: Bondflash@aol.com Date: Sat, 3 Aug 1996 09:49:00 -0400 Subject: NJC I'm going on vacation... hey everyone, I'm heading out to big bend national park for the next 2 weeks with my parents and my friend, so I just wanted to say goodbye till then :) (just think how much e-mail will be waiting for me when I get back!!! whew I'll never catch up!!!) so- bye all!!!!!!! :) Lauren ------------------------------ From: rwm126@psu.edu (Rich Melko) Date: Sat, 03 Aug 1996 09:46:35 -0400 Subject: NJC Olympic Diving I watched some diving last night and thought, wouldn't it be funny if one of the divers, who had no chance of winning a medal, just jumped off the 10 meter platform and did a big cannonbal. Sorry that was stupid. At least it was short though. Rich Melko rwm126@psu.edu ################################# Jerry - You're Crazy. Kramer - Am I?
