Rather than immediately accepting Jewel's opinion, they challenged it. Okay....so does that mean that just because I totally agreed with Jewel's opinion that I am not thinking for myself. Well I am, and just because someone agrees with her opinion doesn't mean that they don't think for themselves. I have to say that I idolize Jewel but I also know that she isn't perfect...I think we all know that. Just because you idolize someone, that doesn't mean that you have to agree with everything that they are for. I do agree with what Sabra said about some people who have blind faith just because of a celebrity. Why doesn't she perform this song more often? I've seen her in concert twice, and upon reviewing the set lists for the shows I haven't attended, including JewelStock, I noticed not one single performance of "Train Song." My judgment, along with my father's, is that Jewel can't perform this song solo: we think she provides the chording, but the higher-pitched notes are played either by another guitarist or on a mandolin. Anyone have any verification on this? I'm no guitar pro, but unless Jewel did some funky tuning tricks or temporarily grew a third arm, I don't believe she could play that song on her own. And, since this is now my favorite song, I counsel Miss Kilcher to include it on her new album. After searching through my catalog of digests, the "Train Song" is also among the favorites of a few other EDAs, including Neile Graham and Aaron Suever. Any song that sounds that magnificent when performed live can be upgraded to miraculous when the production capabilities of a recording studio are available. You can even include the "whoosh" reminiscent of the coffee machine, which gave a breezy effect that complements the song perfectly. So Hiranya, if Jewel is recording some of her "classics" for the next album, may I recommend LOUDLY that "Pale Shade of Grey" be included. - - Carter Navarro, Always a Lover of Trains P.S. - There must be something about me that likes "pale shades."
