If in fact Jewel does find it in her heart to do something for the list members again, we should cherish the opportunity, not bicker about where it should be. By the way, saw No Doubt last night. Absolutely terrific show. They played a lot of the new album, a couple of new songs, and the "Star Wars" theme. I had a chance to meet the band, very nice guys. Didn't meet Gwen, although she did wave. I also received great news. I lucked into a Sarach McLachlan ticket yesterday for the Berkeley show. As far as I know, the FAQ only was to have info for Innerchange Days and Rare Angels because of the generosity of the EDA's doing those tapes.< Errrrr, Adam didn't mean Ken Winchenbach, he meant some guy we call "Ken W", didn't you Adam? Also as a branch, I got 26 second round requests for the Seattle tape and have replied to them all (I hope). "Ken W" said he'd get me more labels this week, and I'm waiting for these new leafs to get me their blank (ie, ONE) tape and return mailers. Thanks for picking up any additional requests, Adam! BTW, the posts re: tape trades is getting way too repetitious and boring (YEAH, AS A MATTER OF FACT I AM THE SOCIAL DIRECTOR OF THIS CRUISE! And BORING IS AS BORING DOES!) Back to my point (there's one in here somewhere): As far as I know, there are only three 100% "otay" ways to distribute non-profit boots: 1) Give them away, losing your investment of time (dubbing) and money (the cassette blank), but polishing your karma. 2) Dub the copy for someone who sends you a blank cassette and return SASE. 3) Swap a dub copy "even-steven" for the other person's dub copy of another concert. I've done ALL three, #1 maybe too many times (but my karma needs all the polishing it can get). #1 and #2 will get newbies a start on their boot collections. The way I figure it, you don't HAVE to require an extra tape in exchange for the time you spend dubbing and the wear-and-tear on your equipment. It really comes down to what your motivation is, the pure joy of sharing OR some sharing and the potential of making SOMETHING for your effort. I gave away almost a hundred buttons at JewelStock just for an occassional smile or two. I am NOT knocking people who want to earn more than goodwill for their efforts. These folks are a viable way of getting boots, although they are technically outside the true spirit of tape treeing and open us all up to future censure by the record labels. Newbies, there are many generous Jewel fans willing help you start your collection the right way! Just post a request. - -- Dennis, who might try stapling on HIS wings next (Angel piercing?) p.s. (B.) it can be used for college students to sign up only during a few weeks or during the summer to keep up with news. (C.) for those internet users who are to busy and only want the abrevated version- this would rival the news only group...then we could electronically send out a quickie every two weeks that would cover all the important stuff...along with pictures once capello gets a picture scanner...1ll of that is just an idea...what do you think? i know it will be a lot of work but if two or three people sign on to it, then it might be worth it...it would kind of be a fan club... we could try and get with hirayna and get stickers or something to send to people who sign up. 2. the next part is that- do musians ever know how many lives they have influenced with their work?? because it sure seems like olypians don't understand that being second best in the whole wide world is quite an accomplishment...so what if we got together on the Jewel list and sent Jewel a book (with an angel on the cover and written in gold pen) about how Jewel has seriously changed lives...i'm sure their are some heart warming story's...and give it to her as a christmas present or a new year's thing...if i get support in this i think it would be neat to include pictures of the people involved and i'll hand write it and title it "earth angles". so what do you think??? duff ------------------------------ From: Ed Hodgin Date: Mon, 29 Jul 1996 17:50:52 -0700 (PDT) Subject: Re: hiding.... No. But, I do have a different object-throwing story. I was at the HFS-tival in 1992. It was a very hot (upper 90s) day and everyone brought lots of water to drink. There was no shade like there is at RFK (I think this concert was at something called Meriweather?). Sometime during the concert, people started throwing so many things up at the stage. Most of the objects were Evian and Volvic watter bottles. Anyway, I ended up with one of the bottles. I was pretty far back so I didn't think I could hit the stage, but I tried anyway. I wound up and threw the bottle as hard as I could. Unfortunately, my trajectory was way off. Instead of going at a 45 degree angle, it went at a 4.5 degree angle. I nailed some guy in the back of the head. This was the sound heard (even above the music): bonk.....OWWWWW. I immediately ducked down to avoid being seen. Everyone around me laughed hysterically. My friends still get a kick out of that story. I didn't mean it, but it happened. I'm sorry. ed ------------------------------ From: Barnabus Heckabus? Well isn't the list a creation of Jewel's, we wouldn't know each other if it were not for here. I have mentioned before in posts that this list means so much to me, I've lost most of my close friends in various reasons over the past two years and things here at Tech aren't that great socially for a nice guy who doesn't go to bars looking for love on the weekends and is not in a fraternity (no offense to the brothers and sisters out there). Many of Jewel's songs help me to put things into perspective. I was talking to my sociology teacher after class today about her, I've made him a great fan and he has only heard the radio songs and Emily if I get a chance I'll ask him to join the list, and he said that sometimes it makes you fell better to listen to sad songs 'cause it makes the shit your in look not that bad (we we're talking about Fragile Flame inperticular, is that going to be on the new album?). Though it will be hard to do this book I think we should do it, but maybe instead of a book or in tandem with the book how about a web page. I don't think I'll be able to do it but someone else might be able to. Along the same subject, any word on her reaction to the book that was given to her at Jewelstock that Rachel (isn't she wonderful) made up with our thanks and writings in it? About the news list, I know that there are parties fighting for and against this, and it looks like no matter what those con say it is happening, I just hope that spliting the list doesn't cause the foundation to fall. Maybe it's just that with Jewelstock I over with and some time before the new album comes out there is not much to talk about except to bicker over little things. I hope the social list doesn't become just Igor and me, though we have had some interesting conversations in the past. Well as Amanda Marshall sings her song in the background of my room, if you don't have her album check it out, let me just say somethings about the greatness of the social list, if we were to stick with just Jewel content, I wouldn't of been introduced to musicians like Happy Rhoads, movies like Water for Chocolate, authors like Anais Nin, and the poetry of Kate and the Poem Lady (where are you?) and writers like Heidi (where are you?). My opinion on the news list, you don't have to read all the posts thats what delete is for. and now to Film lab, Robb Fuzzy the Bear and his handler Robb Fuzzy's Den (last update 14:00 7/29): http://www.vt.edu:10021/R/rleigh/robb.html ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V1 #424 ***************************
