Just recently got my pictures back from JewelStock. One word.........WOW!!!!!!! Tom, you snapped the kick-@$$iest picture in town, my man! For those of you out there, listening in, here's the lowdown: Thursday night. The place: JewelStock. The time: right after Jewel's performance. I was out there with all the others, just a fly in a swarm, trying so desperately to get to my destination; the legendary Jewel herself! I made my way through the thickening cloud of people to the main attraction. With camera in hand, I quickly asked for someone to help with this unbelievable and unequivicable task; to get a picture of me and Jewel. A man stepped out, mysteriously surrounded by a soft, comforting glow...or was that just the prescription on my glasses running out? Anyyway...his name was(drumroll).....TOM!!! Yes, Tom rushed out, chest abroad, and took the camera. Faster than light I traveled to be by Jewel's side. We turned, smiled, and, in this beautiful moment, Tom said: "It's not working". Sweat pouring down and high hopes falling, I quickly rushed to poor Tom's side, furiously fiddling with the camera. After adjustments were made, I again made my way to Jewel's side. Nervous and anxious, I stood next to the angel herself, seeing her as two people in one; a normal 22 year old, yet soo much more, ethereal in a sense. The camera flashed as Tom took the picture, and the moment/eternity was over. Well, only two days ago, I received those pictures. And, despite the rushing, I must commend AND thank you, Tom, for taking the most INCREDIBLE picture of me and Jewel, smiling! It came out PERFECT!!!! The moment will TRULY last forever. I will be making copies so I can send them to be scanned into the JewelStock pages. Again, thanks Tom. This concludes tonight/this morning's show. I'll be back, though, to bring you more hits of what you, the dedicated listeners out there, want to hear. I was very happy with the way people responded to the design, I hope everyone liked them (or at least no one hated them). Unfortunately, I am going to have to charge $15 for the shirts now to help cover shipping and handling, all the time this is going to take, and recover from the large number of shirts I gave away to Jewel, Lenedra, Patty, the Bearsville people, etc. So here is the deal on ordering shirts. Send me an email with the subject "T-Shirt Order" in it give me your name, address, and the number/sizes of shirts that you would like (all sizes will be availible from s-xxxl). I will send you the address to send your check or money order, and confirm your order. I will take order until August 4th. My feeling is that if you weren't at least on the list when JS took place your won't be able to get a shirt. If people are happy with the JS shirts and trust me I will be willing to tackle the mailing lists shirts after I finish up with the JS ones. This is the first chance I have had to post in the past week, my silence in all the current threads is killing me. 1) News-only list I am so gald to hear this will be started, it will allow people a choice maybe it's like the diet Jewel list only one calorie per digest. 2) JewelStock II Dennis was right we should just make every concert our own little JewelStocks. Besides, if there was to ever be another "JewelStock" what makes people think we would have any say in where it was. JS 1 was held in Bearsville because that's where Jewel was not the other way around (come on people let's get cause and effect in the correct order) 3) Popurality Jewel will be as popular as she becomes. Wow, no sleep in two days make me real Zen. It isn't up to us. We can help out (or hurt), but ultimately people will decide wether or not they like Jewel's music. We can't hide her from everyone else and we can't make POY the No. 1 album by ourselves (unless of course everyone on the list went out and bought like 10,000 copies). 4) "Higher Ground" I don't remember who posted that Jewel should cover the Red Hot Chili Pepper's "Higher Ground" (and I am too lazy to go back through 10 digests to figure it out), but it's not a RHCP songs it's a Stevie Wonder song the Pepper's covered. Sorry, but it always bugs me when the wrong people get credit for songs (ie. Whiney Houston covering Dolly Parton's "I will Always Love You.") Well, that's all I have to say (as soon as I hit send I'll think of more). BTW, wish me luck in addition to everything else I am undertaking a rather large project for my local cable access station (where I volunteer) in the hopes that it will help me find a job in TV/Video production. Keep the shirt orders coming (less than one week left to order). It read (in part): > I was wondering how other people felt about people who dub >tapes, in exchange for an additional tape that the dubber gets to keep. Now, I'm not afraid to admit this: I was the person that made this offer. When I 'lucked' into recording the concert that the offer is for, I immediately thought of the many people that might like a copy of this concert that are on the list. I made a preliminary offer just to 'test the waters,' to see how many people might be interested. Sure enough, I got over two dozen replies like this... > Are you still dubbing this show, with the added bonus of Quiet >Warrior? If so, and you're not too bogged down with dubs, let me know >what I would need to do Since I got a greater response than I anticipated, I sat down and tried to come up with the most fair system of distribution I could. The outcome of this was the letter that 'big al' so flauntingly posted a *part of* to the list... When I composed my reply to the dub inquiries I came up with three ways that most people would like to use to get a copy of the tape. I represented the most common form of trading with the 'Even Exchange,' modeled after the method someone else posted to the list a few months ago (with no flames following the post, I might add). I then added the 'Double Blank' option because I realized that many people on the list are in my same situation -- just starting to collect bootlegs. If everyone follows the guidelines that I have seen posted already (in response to big al's post), sure, everyone that already has some Jewel material can increase their collection. Whoop-de-doo. However, this leaves beginners out of the loop permanantly, with no way to break in anytime soon. This seems to me to be *more* unfair then sending two blank tapes for a trade -- at least now the person can join the trading cycle that he or she was stonewalled from before. You may have already noticed that I said I gave 3 methods of trading -- the third was not posted to the list because, frankly, it throws this whole controversy out the window: >The "Other Offer" >----------------- >If you have another offer for me that doesn't fit one of the above two, >contact me via email. We can discuss this then. In fact, I have gotten a response from a person that said he REALLY wants a copy, but cannot afford either of the trading options because he is working full time, and still going to school -- he barely has enough money to put food on the table. I immediately sent a tape out, because to me that is what the whole system is all about. For all I know, the guy was lying through his teeth, but I don't care. If someone else was to say, I'd like to send you a copy of 'Ishtar' on Beta in exchange for the Jewel concert, I'd agree. Whatever it takes to get the person the tape with a *minimum of fuss.* (which I apparently haven't avoided all together.) The 'Other Offer' also specifically states that if you didn't like the other offers, I was more than willing to talk about other options... It seems to me, then, if you found my system was unfair, you could simply do one of two things: (a) forget about getting a tape, and let life go on, or (b) send me a message telling me that you think the system is unfair, and then telling me why. Actually, option (b) is the more preferable because that way I learn from what you view as a mistake, and life can go on better than it was before - -- everyone benefits, and there are no flames to be found. Instead, I find part of my reply (that was sent in good faith) cut from context and posted for the world to read. It seems to me that this spoils the whole process more than my offer ever could! No one likes to be flamed, but apparently that is what someone who is trying to be nice can expect from the Everyday Angels. God help the newbie that sends a listserv command to the list on accident! As to me making a tidy profit off this whole affair, yep, I admit it. I really am a multi-billionaire that lives in a mansion in Bel Air and gets his kicks from getting a free 99 cent tape from all the poor saps on the Jewel List. I mean, get real! In truth, if people in general did not supply return postage to me, no one could get a copy -- I simply can't afford to be mailing that many tapes. I am a student on a VERY limited budget (put it this way - I empathize with the guy who couldn't afford either offer) and it would make no financial sense for me to do this. However, I decided that those that are willing to pay return postage should not suffer for my lack of funds. I can't afford to be postmaster to the Angels, but if they are willing to pick up the tab, who are you to stop them in the name of some non-profit ideal? Again, it seems to me that an offer posed for the common good, to spread the word of Jewel around (and NOT to make a profit in any way), is better for the list than *no one* getting the tape at all. If you disagree with my offers, hey baby, it's a free country. You don't have go along with my offer. You don't even have to get the tape from me. I'm doing what I have to do to spread this tape to as many people as possible. Why else would I give you three options? If that doesn't agree with your conscience, tough. Jewel isn't going to disappear from the face of the planet because I can't afford $10 in postage. The only motivations I had for making this offer were to a) get true fans a tape they can enjoy, and possibly brighten a bad day, and 2) increase my **EMPTY** collection of Jewel bootlegs, the artist that we all adore! That $10 in postage ruining everything Jewel stands for? Not in your lifetime. More 'fans' like 'big al' that breed distrust and anger flooding the scene? Quite possibly. Oh, and 'Big Al'? Thanks for not taking the cowardly route out and running to the list when you had a problem with me. I appreciate the mature, thoughtful manner in which you addressed this problem. Right. **DISCLAIMER** If you don't like what you've just read, GOOD! Tell me about it! My email address is 7rlubner@sjbhs.pvt.k12.ca.us. That's **7rlubner@sjbhs.pvt.k12.ca.us**. None of us should be afraid to ask our friends (EDA's)a question or seek an opinion. Allison asked and got some opinions. One of the opinions sounded more like they were quoting rules. There are no rules on the Net, but IMO there should be the use of common sense and respect of others. Rules are like censorship. I think there are unwritten understood rules that we learn as we go. Ryan on the other hand is perfectly justified to respond as he did. He felt he was misunderstood. I read his response very carefully and did not assume anything.
