I drove up from Maryland. 5 and a half hours. I had to work from 4-11 pm. and the computer in the office was being upgraded, so no email access yesterday. Today, I had 815 messages. I'm down to 525. I've been reading for 5 hours. This is hopeless. You people are so hopeless:) I'm sorry if I repeat anything, but Hey I haven't read all of the messages since thursday. I am a goober. I still don't know who most of the people at Jewelstock were. I see people posting about it and go "s/he was there?" It was nice to see Dennis and Bill and Ken again. And nice to meet the rest of the people that I did meet. Richard really looks familiar for some reason. Hey Kate. The police chased me all the way home. Stop sending more messages until I get done reading all of the ones I already have! I can't believe I missed Happy Rhodes. Poo. James Judd smiled too much. Every time I saw him, he had that big-ass grin on his mug. Hey James, wish we could have talked more. Mr. Poopy pants. I got one of my blow-ups of a picture of Jewel from her Northampton show signed with a metallic pen. She recognized the show and said "this is from Northampton or something like that right?" and I said my usual "uh, yeah, um, mmmmmmm..." I never have really said anything in any known language to her. Didn't get the picture personalized either. Although it is now framed. Hey Jewel, my name's Paul! Just wanted you to know. I didn't even take a whole roll of 24 film at the show. What a git. Hey Ken and Kate, when i get those pics developed, I'll contact you. I didn't get to see the Friday show, but the Thursday show was good. We were allowed to take pictures until the end of the third song (Liz, you scoundrel, disobeying rules. We should shackle you). The flash was quite amazing for that time period. LIke a press conference, as she said. The band stuff was great, although I couldn't soak it all up. I felt like i was missing so much because I had to watch everyone on stage, and ended up not hearing the song. But it was good stuff. Newt is sleeping. SHe is so cute, all curled up. God I missed my kitten. I had a great weekend. Not much chance for withdrawal (like I had after the NoHo show in January. Check the digests to see what I had to say back then) since I saw June Rich (fun), the Nields (excellent), Nil Lara (cool), Cheryl Wheeler (a riot), and Jonatha Brooke (we have her for the fall!) on Saturday and Frances Dunnery (amazing), Martin Sexton (surprising), the Iguanas (party), and Roseanne Cash on SUnday, all for free in Philly. Then I met my best friends from home and had dinner on Monday. I had a lot of fun at the campsite THursday night/friday morning sitting around the fire and talking and listening. Hey Tom Proven. And Rich. And Liz. And Piglet. And Rachel. And Tom. And whoever else stayed up until 5 am when I went to sleep. I was happy to meet Steve and Dan (I never saw Jeff Wasilko) and Tom, and Neal Copperman in Philly. Too bad I didn't meet other important people like Neile, Jeff H, Aaron, Colin, and others. Volleyball. Where the hell did it go:( I know, no place to set up the net, but we could have just peppered or something. Crud. And Sinjin wasn't as good as he was hyped to be protecting people from frisbees. Although he had good aim. I hope Mike stripped him of official duties after his destructive displays in the parking lot:) Hey Lisa Shiller is the CONTACT FOR...the angel needs a ride list (heh heh). I won't reveal your true duties, lisa. You'd get swamped if I did, now wouldn't you. Thanks for sharing the blanket. Say hi to Jackie too. I'm young, aren't I? As I pointed out to Ken, when Lenedra came out while Jewel was soundchecking, she walked towards and past me to the parking lot. Hey Ms. Carroll, sorry if I made prolonged eye contact. I know that it was extended beyond a comfortable period of time and apologize if it disconcerted you. I considered taking jewel's stuff from the stage. I was there when Bill asked Lenedra for the bottle of water. Did we point out that she might want to pick up the stuff because people might take it? That's it so far for my thoughts on Jewelstock. To be truthful, I wasn't thinking about you listers who didn't make it. I was having a jolly time talking to my little party of EA's. How many people dropped out at the last minute? 80? 100? And while I'm in my "idea guy" mode, I offer the following solution up to Hiranya's request for an Angelic "hook" at Jewel shows: Instead of flashlights, cats or bats (wooden, inflatible OR furry flying critters), how's about those cyclamine glow-in-the-dark loop things that can be spun around your wrist, waved in the air or worn as a headband HALO? Their advantages are many: 1) They are safe (no sharp edges!) 2) They are not dangerous (break-away design!) 3) Jewel could easily spot them in a dark venue from 50 yards 4) They are not THAT distracting 5) They come in many colors 6) They should be inexpensive 7) Everyone around you would immediately want one 8) They are FUN Disadvantages: 1) They are corny 2) They may not last long and could be hard to find (I'll look into it) 3) Someone might beat you up for the one you have 4) Someone like me would go overboard and resemble a Christmas tree (okay, add this one to the ADVANTAGE LIST) What do you think, Angels?
