Everyday Angels, What can I say about JS that hasn't been said before? Not much, but, to put it bluntly, it was, BY FAR, the BEST and most INCREDIBLE experience I have had these 19 1/2 years! :) She was phenomenal! Her voice-flawless. Her humor-abundant. Her poetry-deep and insightful. And Jewel...radiant; a TRUE angel. I am glad she enjoyed herself, as I know I did. I am having all my pictures being developed. Hope my picture of me with Jewel comes out! Thanks to Tom, I got home at 5am Saturday morning; just in time to see the sun rise! The ride home with Tom, Gerrit, and Liz was fun(Gerrit and Liz were sleeping, with Tom driving and putting in some kick-ass techno that we were listening to). Work later that day was a pain. I went through immediate JewelStock withdrawl. :( I really had a good time. Thanks Jon for the ride up. It was nice meeting you and Mark. Days Inn kicked, huh?! ;) Thanks Crunch and Shelly for the wonderful sub that I devoured(more like inhaled!) Thurs night! I'm STILL on a feeding frenzy! Akira(Richard)- it was great meeting you. Next JS I'll bring my other AKIRA t-shirt! maybe we should get together and watch the movie!;) Dennis(one of the warring Harris parties)-thanks again for the button! I can't stop looking at it; it draws me in, closer and closer). JS was a blast, and you helped make it so(especially Friday night!). Stay cool man, and keep in touch. Sinjin- thanks for all your security services; I really felt safe knowing you were there! ;) Too bad I couldn't show Jewel my drawings of her on Friday night. :( Maybe next time! Liz- you go, you JEWELFAN you! I'm sure you slept more comfortably AFTER I left the car! Tom- thanks again for the ride back. Techno forever! Gerrit- it was real. Your hair needs to be longer, though! :) Roy Rogers rules! Lauren & Sara- it was great to spend some bonding time with you two! Lauren- when you get an e-mail address at Rutgers(if different from here), e-mail me the address, and we can keep in touch when i go back to Rowan. Sara- glad you finally found your way. Friday night was really cool. Really enjoyed meeting you. Love your hair! :) Mike- thanks for helping to set this thing up; I loved it! We are Jewel Virgins no more! I can't believe I ACTUALLY stood RIGHT NEXT to her! Ahhhhhh...... Thanks to Hiranya for being our voice to Jewel and Lenedra. Lenedra- it was really nice seeing you. You have an excellent voice! If I had nothing else to do or see, that lullabye DEFINITELY would have put me to sleep! :) Your duet with Jewel was precious. I actually almost cried. You have a very beautiful, very talented, and highly adorable daughter. And finally, to Jewel herself- JewelStock being my first time seeing you, it was the best experience I have ever had. Thank you for your time, for it truly was monumental. I know this may sound strange, but I fell in love with you the moment you stepped on stage. I mean, who didn't? You really are talented, and I enjoyed listening to each and every word that flowed from your lips. I have said this many times, and will say it many more; you truly are an angel here on earth. May your wings take you as far as you let them. I had some drawing I did of you I was hoping to show you on Friday night, but you had to leave. :( Very understandable, however. Maybe next JewelStock(or hopefully a lot sooner!). Take care, and again, thanks! :) That's my synopsis of JewelStock '96. It is now 1:45 am, and I must get some sleep before work later on. Instead of trying to park at the meters on the beach side (which can get expensive), there are a few parking lots found on the "back side" of the strip that will cost anywhere from 3-5 bucks. (I think the Casino has parking, but I'm not sure if it's free to people attending the show. I'll find out.) It might be best to meet at the bandstand, or as Rachel put it, "the Sea-Shell-Stage," or we can meet outside the Casino doors, but that might get really crowded. (My vote goes for the stage. You can't miss it.) BTW, I'm not sure if they realy do check ages or not, so bring IDs with you just in case. Remember, seating is GENERAL ADMISSION. Therefore, get there early. Doors open at 7pm. Well the blue ribbon is off my antenna, but I think I'm going to proudly display the Jewelstock lettering across my back window for a while! What can I say? Not only were the shows stunning, but Woodstock is so incredibly cool and eveyone who came was so totally down-to-earth and great to hang out with. Jewel list people rule! Has anyone mentioned how ironic it was that Crunch, our fearless camping co-ordinator, didn't bring a tent? In fact, he didn't bring any camping gear at all from what I saw. All he seemed to have were some peanut butter sandwiches, which seemed out to be _quite_ the bargaining chip! ;) Too bad the guys from California weren't as resourceful, we found them sleeping on the picnic tables at camp. Crunch also takes the gold medal in the slalom from Bearsville to Camp Jewel, with bonus points for dodging all the deer. I guess I get the silver, I chased him all the way there Wednesday night, 20 minuters door to door I'd say. Sure we got drenched Thursday night and froze Friday night, but we were camping on a mountaintop in the Catskills, how cool is that! I've seen a few Jewel shows but none as special and exclusive and personal as these. If you're going to record a concert for possible use on an album, it might as well sound like this! The songs with Lenedra were absolutely heart-stopping. The sound quality in that theatre was perfect. Thursday's show in particular was so specially crafted just for us, with the poetry, songs with Lenedra, and all those rarities we hope to hear even one or two of at a normal Jewel concert. Friday's show included a lot more of her usual selections, and her work with the band seemed even tighter than the night before if that's possible, she was really in top form for recording. I was pretty p.o.'d at the woman who brought her kid to the show and let him make noise during some of the quietest moments, especially after Jewel said she was recording that last song for the album. Hopefully the stage mics were forgiving enough that they didn't pick much of that stuff up. I'm glad so many of you liked Patty Griffin. Jewel liked her too...I heard her outside after the show telling Patty how beautiful she thought her singing was. And I know Patty must have been thrilled to be surrounded by so much attention after the show, signing stuff and talking to people. I don't think she's been getting a lot of that yet with her short sets opening for Jann Arden and Billy Mann. OK, I'll admit it, I've crossed the floor to become PRO-Harris! He proved his leadership abilities Friday in uniting the crowd to bring Jewel back for more! And then Jewel wrapped up by saying thanks to everyone for coming out to "Jewelstock", and I thought it sounded great to hear her call it that. Hey, I'll bet some of the photos would make good cover art on the next CD! By the way, I was surprised by the number of people who left after Friday's show instead of staying overnight. It must have been nearly midnight when the California crew left, with passengers to drop off enroute. How far did you guys get that night (Liz)? Steve Ito, his friend Christine and I arrived back at Camp Jewel to find a few stragglers sleeping in their cars, but ours were the only tents left. We wasted most of the rest of the night trying to get a campfire going out of wood drenched the night before (we eventually did). We hung around town for part of Saturday, does Woodstock ever get packed on the weekend! FOUND at Camp Jewel: One Coleman lantern. e-mail me if it's yours. Steve posted that we accidentally caught the Westwood Boston concert broadcast on a Buffalo radio station on the way home. I was scanning stations and when the radio stopped on "Daddy" I was amazed to hear that song being played. Then when I heard crowd noise it struck me what I'd found, and realized the show was just starting. The best part came during I'm Sensitive ...when she sings "We are Everyday Angels" you can clearly hear several people cheer. I know those must have been Jewel EDAs! Someone else posted to put BLUE RIBBONS ON YOUR CAR AT EVERY JEWEL SHOW. I second that. And wear your Jewelstock shirt. It seems like I've spent longer reading email today than I spent driving home. Dean, I'll get my photos developed and send you dupes for the website if you can give me your adress. Keep crediting those photos on the web page so we can know who to trade with! Later everyone. I haven't even LOOKED at them. :P I don't plan to 'till tommorrow. Actually, I'll read the messages TO ME tonight and check out the list messages tommorrow night after work when I don't have to sleep. ;) As many of you know, it took Tom Proven and I about 47 and 1/2 hours to drive to the camp grounds (Stevens - krunch's choice place) in NY from Tom's place in the San Francisco area way out here in California. On the way back, it took us 49 hours.. including the 2 1/2 detour to drop Steve off in West Chester, PA and the 2 one hour stops when we slept and the 30 min to drop off Liz and chat before running away. ;) In any case, we're both back alive and well!! IT's not even mdnight! (Oh wait..NOW it is..but it wasn't yet! :P eheh) I won't go into detail about the concerts themselves except to pronounce that they were amazing and if you didn't go, :P~~~~~~~~~~~ ;) eheh She played tons of old songs and even tho she didn't finish Summer Home in Your Arms, I eternally thank whoever requested that.. :) One of my fav's.. =) If somehow you didn't get introduced to me or we didn't meet, I was the weird idiot running around in the florescent blue hat. =) After expanding on my JewelStuff web page ideas with Tom, I'll have plenty of info of the CampStock for all of those to gawk over ;P and plan to throw up a few other pages including a Yearbook (for everyone on the list to fill out a form and put their own fun info in along with a pic!) for the list and a fully indexed Jewel Lyrics page (I'll throw up 3-5 more tmw.. that i did on the way that i Don't think are done yet).. Oh..BTW.. the song labeled "Martini Glass" on the Java Joe's show is actually "Buttercup" which Jewel said she hadn't played in public before. ;P I thought it sounded vaguely familiar. :> To those of you who got a copy, the reason it's labelled FAIR is cuz of the hissy sounds, but any good stereo will toss those out. (Tho those using cheap walkmans like me.. it's fair..not good, eheh) i must proclaim, if not for more reason of ego boosting for you (if me liking someone is actually a compliment, eheh), that my all-time favorite people that I met out of everyone were definitely Liz (from puke-io ;P), Robb (fuzzy got lucky baby!), Tom (yeah, both, eheh), and Rachel (fuzzy book lady!). I had so much fun meeting everyone else (err..those who I was fortunate to meet anyway).. and CampStock was a blast! =) I will be driving across the states next month too.. on my trek back to school, so don't be surprised if I request permission to visit you.. ;) Tapes are going on back burners for a day or two.. I think I'll bring a tape deck to work just to speed things up a bit tho. :P I can't believe it.. I got about six pieces of mail (average for me per day) in the whole six days I was gone. I guess everyone knew I was going to JewelStock and decided to cut me some slack. ;) Oh yeah..and that was soo cool when I got to hand the Pieces of Us book to Jewel as she was riding away on her b/f's bike. =) Thanks again!! I had so much fun! It was even worth my $500 of it.. ;P (oh yeah, and that other $400 i lost from not being at work, ahahah) You all rule!!! We have to do this again REAL soon! =) Oh yeah..and get Jewel involved just to get everyone motivated too. ;P *bear huggles* Gerrit - -forever the idiot with the blue muffin hat- P.S. Does the same thing go for the DATs/tapes? So, I should hopefully have a T-shirt lined up from Mr. Phil Kelnhofer and a guest book from Ms. Rachel Martin and eventually (right?) tapes (video and audio) Sigh, guess that might make up for missing the shows. I've also heard there's going to be a JewelStock 2 next summer. Whoever's planning on taking RSVPs (can we inflict that on Mr. Richard Chang again?), please chalk me up as an attendee. I know it's not important in the greater scheme of things but stuff like this makes me wonder who types the lyrics up in the first place and if she just made up new lyrics on the spot when she was recording or if she had two versions in her head that she couldn't decide between.
