Walking around somewhat befuddled (as I usually am upon arriving at an unfamiliar place), and with blurry vision after removing my glasses following two hours of driving, I came across what looked like an entrance. A small knot of people were gathered in front, including one official looking guy reading something from a notepad. Thinking this must be the line, I patiently waited behind them. After a few moments, the woman to my right tells me that this wasn't the line, and I was free to go in. With that, the young woman to my left moves aside, gestures with her hands towards the entrance, and tells me to go right ahead. I say thank you very much as I pass by, and, walking up the steps, replaying the last few seconds in my head, I gradually realize that, without displaying a hint of recognition on my part, I had just spoken the only four words I will in all probability ever say in this lifetime to the woman I had come to see in concert. I was one of the 1/2 lucky ones. Saw Thursday show, but not Friday. As far as I can tell, no one has actually described Friday. So far, I think some people have mixed the two together in their musings because I keep reading about little things that I didn't see, so I guess they're from Fri. Someone please elaborate on the differences between the two nights - did the band play Fri.? Did Lenedra sing? Feel free to do stream-of-conscious writing! Also, did anyone happen to get a picture of Jewel sitting on the floor wrapped around her guitar while Lenedra sang the lullaby? I realized too late how beautiful she looked and wished I had done a drawing. I was tempted to take a picture but my camera had flash and I didn't want to break the 3-song rule. Please E-mail me if you have the shot! Speaking of Lenedra, what a beautiful letter! You're right, Mike, she is a very classy lady! Greg Ooley wrote >Jewel also has a wonderful sense of humor and comedic timing. Actually that's the main reason that I'm so anxious to get ahold of the tapes from JS. One example for you 12-Steppers: At one point she messed up the beginning of a song or something and she meowed. Yeah, you read that correctly- she meowed. And she goes "I meow when I'm nervous. Do you guys do that when you're nervous, meow?" [a couple little giggles in the audience, but silence mostly] "Yeah, neither do I." And everyone just breaks out laughing. < How about when she dropped her poetry on the floor (intentionally) and everyone laughed and she said something like "I try all night to come up with funny things to say and then I drop paper on the floor and everyone laughs. Then she proceeds to do it four more times - and everyone laughs each time! Can't wait to see the rest! Anyone else have pictures? I'm really enjoying reading everyone's own little personal take on the event... and I also think that it was really kewl of Lenedra to stop by and say hi. She does truly sound wonderful enough to be the mother of Jewel! I live in LA, and I have grown up around all of the hype and the ego's surrounding celebrities. It is so refreshing to hear from REAL PEOPLE that are in "the music business"! Lenedra, Jewel and everyone involved truly show how angelic they really are by the way that they treat their 'adoring public'. A very large number of entertainers could care less about their fans (trust me on this one... I've seen it from the inside). How wonderful it is for someone so gifted to be so caring. Okay, look, I have to clear this up. Robb said in his post something about the"looker" gettin mixed up with the "hooker". This is all my fault, and since I have nothing AT ALL against Shelley, I'm gonna clear it up. Immeditely. Akira had scome over to the dried-up fountain to get orders from everybody for food and drinks. Crunch, as I remember, ordered "a water and one french fry". Then, after Akira left, Crunch and Shelley went wandering down to the water. When Akira came back, he said " I got the french fry...". Not wanting him to get confused about orders he was hearing in his head, I said " Crunch and the tall girl went down to the water." Everyone started laughing, and someone said, "God, what a great town !" I didn't get it 'till someone said to me "The call girl...nice..." . I immediately yelled "NO !!! THE TALL GIRL !!!" but I guess I was ignored. Anyway, Robb translated this into a hooker/Looker confusion. I want everyone to know, once and for all, there were no painted women with Crunch (as far as I know :) ) and Shelley's not for sale ! I swear !!! She was very nice. She even moved after she sat in front of my and I started sobbing because I couldn't see the but the top foot of the stage. i hope this FINALLY clears everything up. I think the girl said there was a $1.50 handling fee for orders over the phone, and onther charge too, so they end up being around $16.00 each. Still a great price, though. The show is 18+, and I'll be 18 by then, but my friend won't... oh well, she can fake it. Anyway, when you order them through the casino, they hold them at the "box office " (it's this little cubicle thing right in front of the door to the concert hall, right in the center of the casino) and you pick them up that night. I don't who's been there before. Don't be fooled- it's NOT a casino !! It's a big one-side-open tourist trap, right across from the ocean. It's got some candy places, some air brush places, a "mall" with a grateful dead store, a make-your-own-music-video place, a "old-tyme" picture place, and the upstairs is a huge arcade. There's also a really good restaraunt right there, called the Whale's Tale. Right next to the Casino is a McDonald's for all us cheapie's. Across the street ( in front of the ocean) is the Sea-Shell-Stage, where we'll probably be forced to watch either a talent contest or some beatles look-alikes. But they're good entertainment. Hampton Beach is all muscle building freaks and bleach blonde girls in flourescent bikinis. I don't know, I guess it's good sightseeing. It's really easy to find, too. Once you get on "the main drag" (the stores are on the left and the beach on the right ) find a place to park in the big lots on the right, next to the ocean. You'll have to feed the meters, but I volunteer to collect quarters and renew all the blue-ribboned cars'. Then just cross the main drag, and walk up the left side of the street. you'll find the casino to be the huge white building with pillars that's directly across from the public bathrooms, visitor's center, and the big ugly seashell stage obstructing your view of the ocean. If you hit the water slides, you went too far. If you hit the statue on the beach, you went WAY too far. if you hit the point that the street becomes a regular 2-way street, take a deep breath and calm down. And don't even think of going swimming. Unless you're 7 years old, it's just too freaking cold. This is going to be great. Wow. Shut me up now, or I'll never stop !!! Woo hoo, Rachel ------------------------------ From: Sinjin@ecn.com Date: Mon, 22 Jul 1996 02:04:16 GMT Subject: New info on Frisbee attack After reviewing tapes and interviewing all witnesses to the frisbee attack on Jewel that caused her to walk off stage halfway through "Pieces of You" I have come to the conclusion that this vile act was not the work of a lone gunman, but it was a conspiracy! Witnesses reported that the frisbee hit Jewel in the guitar and the head. In order to do this, it would have to be some sort of "super-frisbee". This super-frisbee would of had to soar through the air, strike Jewel's guitar, bounce back, change direction in mid air, increase altitude, then accelerate and strike Jewel in the head. The laws of pysics prove this impossible. It is my expert belief that there were two frisbee assassins. One, as is common knowledge, was stationed in the crowd. The other was hidden behind a grassy knole east of the stage. But wait, there's more! In light of recent posts I have narrowed down the list of suspects to: A) Dennis Harris B) the Juliana Hatfield mailing list C) Deloris of the Cranberries Dennis has an aliby, as several people reported seeing him (well, maybe not "seeing" him, but certainly hearing him) at the time of the attack. Therefore I believe without a doubt that either the Cranberries or the JH list are responsible for the attack on our Archangel! I have enlisted the help of several of our nation's best detectives to help me find the culprit, so fear not...justice will be served! * * \____/ / JS \ "Powerbars and volleyball..." \ 96 / Jewel- "Satellite" |__| / \ / \ ------------------------------ From: jeffw (Jeff Wasilko) Date: Sun, 21 Jul 1996 22:17:49 -0400 (EDT) Subject: Re: To all Angels going to the August 17th show CornflkGl@aol.com writes: > It's really easy to find, too. I have already taken the advice of one list member who long before the actual concert suggested that once we returned home from JewelStock we should telephone local radio stations and let them know how cool JewelStock was. I called one station in Cleveland and talked for a long time with the lady at the other end. I didn't say anything specific about the list or how to join so there won't be a huge influx of new subscribers as a result of my conversation, at least not directly. She wasn't really interested in the internet group as much as she wanted to know all about Jewel and what she did at the show... information that I was more than willing to share after such a fantabulous experience. I figure that she will probably pass the news on to the DJs and they may mention a tidbit about JewelStock before they play a Jewel tune (guess which one) and that's that. I think that is the best type of way to spread news of the event. Although discovering a write-up in Rolling Stone would be kinda cool too. Also, a local music-news magazine, Scene, here in Cleveland has a 'grapevine' section devoted to snippets of music news and I think I'm going to tip them off to the JewelStock event. I don't see how this sort of publicity can hurt after the show has already taken place. (Here's where the debate begins, no?)
