If you are not going I will post an announcement on Monday on how to order a shirt if you want one. Now, on to more menial stuff. If you want to indentify me at the show I'll be the hoopy frood who knows where his towel is. (Sorry about that I just reread the entire Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Series). I saw this movie Friday the fifth, so I knew that it wasn't realistic since the world was relatively hunky-dory. It wasn't as spactacular and grand as I was expecting. But it was fun. And the most surprising aspect that I enjoyed was the humor. I liked Will Smith, even though I didn't expect to. And what a cheesy way for Harry Connick, Jr. to die, doing a stupid maneuver that he can't pull off:0 I guess that by actually having people like the first lady die, they made the movie more human, a little more real (heh) and showing that it really isn't an epic film, just one that shows the inherent goodness of humanity and its fragility. A big thing that bugs me is the emphasis by many articles on the special effects. They make it sound as if the effects were cutting edge/boundary breaking/show-stealing. I didn't think so. In fact, I read one honest article that said how the movie people really didn't create any new technology or go where no other movie had gone before. They used your basic scale models and precise explosives and computer graphics stuff, but they were able to do it all within their budget (at $70 million for the entire movie, that's pretty small for a big-time sci-fi movie). I thought that the effects in Twister were more show-stealing and more cutting edge. And Star Wars did the space ship dog-fight without all this new fangled cgi 20 years ago just as good (except for the black squares around the ships). Oh well. It was fun.
