Do you remember the first time you heard "I'm Sensitive"? I usually don't check the lyric sheet of a new album for a while, I just listen to it. Anyway, for a long time I thought that one line was "If we robbed the SENATE and took all their food." Every time I heard it, I thought "Gee, that's kinda odd. I guess she doesn't like politicians." (but let's not start the politics thread again ;) I finally checked it out like a month later 'cause it was buggin' me, and of course it was "cynics." Ahh, that makes more sense. But wait, oh nooo! *I'm* a cynic. This was my first clue that I was not, contrary to my popular opinion of one, Jewel's soulmate. Oh well, many of us had those little fantasies once. I got over it. Hmm, it might be fun to make a list of why one is *not* perfect for Jewel (more interesting than the other way around, don't you think?). I'm gonna have to hurt myself for that suggestion, 'cause my inbox is screamin' at me already. So I'm wondering, how many other Jewel fans are cynics, because I'm officially "out"ing myself here. I've confessed privately to a few of you already and I've recognized the signs in some others' posts. Wouldn't it be ironic (yeah, so shoot me for the pun :b No, wait!! Don't, I was only kidding!) if many of Jewel's fans were cynics? You know, maybe you don't want to be, but ya just can't help it? Oh, the shame. Anyway, I'm not sure I want to actually find out the results (did I mention that my inbox is coming after me with a butcher knife as we speak?). I just like to toss things out to think about occasionally, and if I wait for the list traffic to let up, I'll never get a chance to post again. Waahh. Aaron p.s. If we could all just keep my confession a secret from Jewel, at least until after J-days, I'd be appreciative ;} ------------------------------ From: Victor Igor Wasylczenko Date: Mon, 15 Jul 1996 09:44:56 -0700 Subject: Re: Harris Reply Digest #342 See! I'm a really, really new Jewel listener (am becoming a fan) and have been urged to join this list by someone I think you all know - a guy called Tom Proven (hi Tom!!) who I met while hanging out for a brief period on the Milla list. I understand most of you are in NY this week at Jewelstock. I think it sounds great and am looking forward to hearing all about it when you all get back. Tom's been telling me about it and his enthusiasm for Jewel is rubbing off onto me in a big way. I only got the CD last week and only heard her sing for the first time a few days before that when they played 'Who Will Save Your Soul' as a hit prediction on Video Hits here. I thought almost no one knew about her yet but when I went to find the CD I was told it had been in but they sold out. A good sign, yes?? So Jewel has been added to my list of female singer/songwriters worth finding out about. Am I the first/only Aussie on the list?? If there are any others say hi and let me know. Otherwise I guess I'm it. I think I was the only Aussie on the Milla list too. She's virtually unknown musically here. It gets kinda lonely being the only person I know to listen to this kind of music which is why I'm looking forward to getting to know you all. Hope you don't ignore me just because I'm so far away and can't get to meet any of you (although Tom is talking about visiting Canberra some time...hey, any of you who met him at Jewelstock, write to me privately and tell me what he's like?? I have a photo but my natural curiosity is getting the better of me. Anything you can tell me will be appreciated!) Here's a quick bio: Age: 24. Occupation: Writer (first novel just submitted) but working as a Personal Assistant for cash. Interests: Writing, books, music, films, forming close attachments to people via email on the other side of the world (that one was for Tom....ha ha) etc etc. Musical tastes: Passionate and devoted Indigo Girls fan, Sarah McLachlan, Tori Amos, Frente, Cocteau Twins, REM, Billy Bragg, Luka Bloom, Sinead, Cranberries, Bjork, Suzanne Vega, Milla,Crowded House, Deborah Conway, Jewel, Kristin Hersh, Everything But the Girl - that's basically a run down of my Cd collection actually. That's about it for now. god there were a lot of emails from this list today. Couldn't follow half of them but am hoping to understand more from now on. I get the impression this Dean guy is a running joke. did you all find out whether or not he exists or am I missing the point?? any of you who didn't get to go to JS and are feeling lonely, drop me a line. Maybe that's > still in the works, but just not done yet? Did the plans change?? No. For the 87th time, we wanted to post a list but were not sure if we could. After the RSVP process is completed, Akira has to compile all that in a list, in alphabetical order (I hope) that we will use at the shows. On top of that he just started summer classes this week. Give the guy a break please. If you received word from him you are confirmed, that is enough. A posted list would be nice, but there are many other things we have to deal with in getting this show "on the air" so to speak. So I doubt you'll see a list on the Web Site, we may still try, but I would not count on it. Mike Connell Well, it won't be very useful > to me if it gets put up after I leave. Born in the year that Bill Haley's "Rock Around the Clock" was #1 and I've been buying and enjoying music ever since. (Got 3000 of them 12 inch vinyl things us dinosaurs used to use to listen to music, held out on CDs until 1990 and don't ask how many of them I have) I am employed as a test technician for Lockheed Martin, working on flight control computers for various military aircraft. I have two cats, Rachel and Fido My interests and favorite things include tennis, photography, music (Carpe' duh!), a good salad, Ice Hockey (It RULES!), my beloved San Diego Chargers, sunsets, sunrises, sunshine, rainy days at times (BUT NOT THIS WEEK!!), Star Trek(s), popsicles and of course JewelStock My Jewel musings: I think that the way she sings "orleans avenue-ah" on the PoY WWSYS is the sexiest 1.5 seconds on the radio in the last decade...I think that it's a shame that 99.9% of the music listening country we have here has not yet heard "Foolish Games", one of the most beautiful recorded songs I've ever heard....I first discovered Ms. Kilcher last November when "The Wizard of Oz" first came on, was drawn in right there, but for some reason I forgot about her. Then, while home sick in April with mono, I saw her on VH1, said to myself, "That's the girl!....." and I went out to Walmart at 10pm with a 102.5 degree temperature to buy PoY....Been a Jewelaholic ever since... found Aaron Walkers' Web Site about 30,000 other related pages and this absolutely wonderful mailing list and it's residents....own PoY, 3 boots, Save the Linoleum and Phyllys Barnaby....am happy to had a part in putting together this amazing show we'll have Thursday night...I'm probably the only person in the history of the planet who is actually glad he had mononucleosis. Other Musical musings: music is music, it is good for all. Many of you young ones out there expressed in your bios you cannot stand the stuff from the 60's and 70's. Well, you've heard the wrong stuff. Don't listen to the oldies shows, they just play the pop/sweet stuff, listen to the GOOD STUFF. The stuff that made rock and roll what it is today. It's really the same music made from the same mold. Listen to some classic rock stations. My God, much of today's music sounds like it just came from the late 60's early 70's and vice versa. Good, classic music is TIMELESS, a classic hit now would be a classic hit 25 years ago and vice versa. To me 1994 was a fantastic year for rock and pop music. I was AMAZED at the sound coming out of my radio in the summer of '94. It sounded like 1968 thru 1972 all over again. Recent groups/singers like Blind Melon, Collective Soul, Sheryl Crow, Counting Crows, The Smashing Pumpkins, Black Crows, Blues Traveler, Jewel, Alice in Chains, and so forth could have easily been acts back then. So my advice to you is check out the GOOD stuff from the late 60's to early 70's...Buffalo Springfiled, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, The Supremes, The Stones, The Doors, Bob Dylan, The Byrds, early Led Zeppelin, Badfinger, Steppenwolf, Deep Purple, Sly and the Family Stone, The Allman Brothers Band, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Guess Who, Rare Earth....get some used CDs of these acts, you won't be sorry I simply cannot wait to see you all and take in this special evening we will all share together, Mike - -- |~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| | | | JewelStock Online is at | | | | http://www.theartof.com/jewelstock | | | | username = angel | | password = racecar | | | |~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| ------------------------------ From: Chris3255@aol.com Date: Tue, 16 Jul 1996 14:10:57 -0400 Subject: top 10's well paul kim brought up no-one posting top 10's anymore in his last post so here's mine (as of last night...it changes VERY frequently): Artists (not incl.
