I don't know why humans are like this. yeah, i used to be a "comic collector", too, but now just read comics that have good stories, as well as art. thereby, i no longer touch anything published my marvel, and the majority of my monthly titles come from DC, both it's Vertigo line and it's normal superhero universe. i also get a few Dark Horse titles every month, and among the independents, "Scud: The Disposable Assassin" and "Strangers in Paradise" are among the treasures i have there. "Strangers in Paradise" is a perfect example of something liked by the few being embraced by the many, as Jewel is becoming. SIP had a very small little audience, but word of mouth and critical acclaim have SIP into the mainstream, to the dismay of a number of SIP fans. the book was recently picked up by a publisher to allow Terry Moore, the writer/artist, to focus on the creative side of the book and not the business part. but a big change was that the black and white comic is going to be in color now, much to the chagrin of some fans, who feel that book is purer in its black and white form. how this relates to Jewel is that her fame may start to hold her back. remember when she didn't sing WWSYS at the end of her concert? now, it seems as if she's catering to her management to play it at the end, since that's what the casual fan has heard on the radio and will probably only stick around to see. uh-huh. and now her management wants her to stop doing her Dolores story during PoY? geez. whatever happened to imitation is the best form of flattery? seems more like management doesn't want a repeat of the Oasis/Blur feud. yeah, whatever. hopefully, jewel and SIP will be able to weather their respective storms and come out stronger for it. we'll just have to wait and see, eh? eric :) ------------------------------ From: Eric Montas Date: Sun, 14 Jul 1996 03:08:59 GMT Subject: What Dean/Dennis should wear to Jewelstock hey, wouldn't it be funny if Dean and Dennis wore those "Stupid"/"I'm With Stupid" t-shirts? of course, they would have to duke it out to see who wears the "Stupid" t-shirt. :) as for me, i'll probably wear my blue jewel 'cowgirl' t-shirt, unless it's hot as hell, in which case i'll wear a tank top. i'll be wearing jean shorts and a black X-Wing hat backwards. i also have long black hair and i'm 5'8" if that helps. i'll also be with Shakey, who's a tall, skinny dude with long hair and glasses. i'm sure we'll have our homemade name tags on, too. hey, anyone up for a game of basketball, provided we find a court? i'll bring my ball! eric :) ------------------------------ From: Mike Connell Date: Sun, 14 Jul 1996 00:09:40 -0400 Subject: Re: What to do? You don't have to "take over" a chat room, just announce the name of a "private" room in advance right here on the list....call it...let's say.... "12Step", then everyone will log on at the chosen time, one of you is chosen in advance to CREATE the room a few minute early, then everyone can just enter the room. BUT SOMEONE LOG IT PLEASE AND EMAIL ME A COPY!!!! It's bound to be a rip-roaring riot!!! Maybe we can even put the log on the Web Site after the shows!!! Dennis, whaddya think??? We'll have a "12 Step" page on the Site.
