Perhaps my wording is off just a little. What I mean is that no has the power to negate the validity of social discussion. Jeff does have the right, however, to "kinda skip" messages when he posts them all to the list. My point is that, as with all cool listmasters, he chose to post the Biology question... or what ever it was (see, it didn't bother me enough to remember the actual message). When you start cutting up the content, something important could be lost. Am I right, Jeff? Take this scenario... it's Three A.M., you had a hard night before at work, you delete a post about how someone's day went, when one sentence (in that dark shadow in the middle of all boring posts) reads: I MET JEWEL AND SHE SAID SHE WANTED TO THROW JEWELSTOCK 2 NEXT WEEK AT BLAH, BLAH, BLAH IN KANSAS. Should that person rewrite their message and take all the excitement out of it just to follow some guideline? I think not. Are they expected to post it to all the lists so everyone hears about it? I think this would make things too complicated for the average person just to console those who are too lazy to skip the messages or too afraid that they will miss something. Well, I think this post has gotten way to long. But remember this... I'm staying here, on the amazing list that brought me closer to my fellow angels and to Jewel. I ask you once again, please don't divide the content and the members. Personality is what creates friendship. Thank you, mIKEY ------------------------------ From: Mike Connell Date: Fri, 12 Jul 1996 18:39:10 -0400 Subject: JEWELSTOCK: directions to venue for the Web-challenged JewelStockers, For those of you who can't get to the JewelStock Web Site, I hope this helps you find the venue. If you know someone with AOL or web access, pay them a visit and check out the Web Site, you can see pictures of what I describe below. Bearsville is about 1.7 miles west of downtown Woodstock, if that. The road between them is Route 212 (also known as Tinker Street in Woodstock). Head west on 212 out of Woodstock. NOTE the white Fire House on the right side of 212 (north side) while heading west. The venue is 1.5 miles from there. At that 1.5 mile mark, you'll see a green "Bearsville" sign on the right (the first/only one you'll see), you'll be TURNING LEFT off 212 maybe 30 to 40 feet past that sign. (within maybe 100 feet of that turning point you'll see a traffic light ahead, the only one between Woodstock and Bearsville, you are turning left BEFORE that light) You'll enter a parking lot...up ahead in the parking lot, you'll see a red building which is a barn. That is the venue. Head towards that barn, go between it and a white building which is on the left. DO NOT PARK BEHIND THAT WHITE BUILDING! Parking for the theatre is out back and way left. DO NOT park between Route 212 and the barn, that area is for restaraunt patrons. (there are 4 eateries right there...two fancy joints, a Chinese restaraunt and a bar/grill joint with outdoor seating) There is plenty of parking in that theatre lot out back, but I suggest some carpooling from motels and/or campsites to save spaces, just in case. For those of you coming to Bearsville from the EAST on Route 212, you'll hit that same light I mentioned. It's a one-lane bridge controlled by that light. You'll turn left to continue on 212, and a few feet after that bridge (maybe 100 feet) you'll be turning right off 212 and then seeing the venue as above. Same for those of you coming from the Wilson State Park Campsites (Wittenburg Road), except you'll turn RIGHT to GET TO that one-lane bridge. If you still are lost, just look for Sinjin with the golden W-35a Stealth frisbee and turn there. Patty has graciously accepted an offer to play for free at this event. To view a Patty Griffin site: http://www.decca.com/polygram/inrb596/griffin.html I would like to thank (in addition to Patty, Lenedra and Jewel) Dan Stark, who started the process of trying to land Patty over three weeks ago. He met with Patty at a concert near where he lives and discussed the prospect with her and she was VERY receptive about it. It was then up to Jewel and Lenedra. Dan Fed-Exed a tape of Patty's CD and a promo CD to them at Bearsville a couple of days before Akira, Bill and I met with Lenedra. At that meeting Lenedra gave an enthusiastic OK, but it took until now to iron out all the details.
