Local radio is finally catching on to Jewel; I was listening to WTTS yesterday at two random, widely separated times and they played WWSYS; each time preceding and following the song with a few encouraging words about the promising "new" artist and her upcoming opening for Neil Young. This morning they played two John Hiatt tunes back-to-back -- one of them being Jewel's cover of his tune for the movie soundtrack... yes! Went over to a friend's place last night to finish up his house re-wiring (I get a computer out of the deal, heh heh) and was prepared. Ever since I had him dub my Jewel compilation videotape for a few friends, he has moaned and groaned (only half-seriously) about how much he hates yodeling and how yodeling is something only done by annoying country musicians (?). So I slipped one of my compilation audio tapes into his player and let it roll. After hearing "Absence of Fear" and "Over the Rainbow" he backed down and admitted she was "pretty good." Naturally, I insisted he hadn't been properly chastised yet, and made him listen to the rest of the tape. He finally cried "uncle" and I think he'll be OK now. Just a little Jewel therapy will cure the hardiest case of Kilcherphobia. Oh yeah, I'll voice my public support of a Jewelstock guest book, group picture, mass hug, frisbee-eating competition, Jewel-mantra meditation session, pilgrimage to the hotel room [er, strike that one]... whatever. I want to meet all you wonderful folks and have a memorable time. - -- | Greg Dunn | "Information is not knowledge; | | GregDunn@aol.com | knowledge is not wisdom; | | GregDunn@indy.net | wisdom is not truth." | | http://members.aol.com/gregdunn/ | Frank Zappa | ------------------------------ From: Chopped Liver Date: Thu, 11 Jul 1996 11:39:32 -0600 (MDT) Subject: Re: The night before Jewelstock On Thu, 11 Jul 1996, Stephen Ivy wrote: > I'll be staying in Woodstock on Wednesday and Thursday night. She'd start with "Amen", and move to "Daddy", and though she'd said no, there'd be a loud yodel plea. "Who will save your soul" she'd sing out, knowing full well, what the fans truly wanted would not come about. She'd be wary of frisbees, although as we all know, the frisbee guard would not miss a throw. They'd dive for their lives, knowing the fact, that if one dared get by, they'd all be attacked. But knowing this crowd, as we all so do, nothing would be thrown, but "pieces of you. " Good night she'd cry out, thanking us all, for you are the ones that heard my sweet call. You are the fans that give me the base, to travel around and fill up each place. I'll sing for you all this one final song, and then I'll be out to join in the throng. Yeah, she should get together with the Furniture Guys, Ed & Joe. Now *that* would be a show to watch. It would have to be expanded to an hour so that she could sing for at least half of it every week. Well, I don't mind the non-jewel posts. I like knowing about others on this list in a more holistic fashion, i.e. seeing people as more than just Jewel fans (though that is nice too). BUT, there are an awful lot of non-Jewel posts. I've been a mailing list administrator before and making two lists probably isn't a really good idea. One thing that I really like about r.m.t-a (rec.music.tori-amos) is that they seem to have this code relating to postings that are marked in some manner so that it you don't like it, you can just delete it. I can get the main book copied here ( there's a copy place in my town ), get them bound with that plastic stuff, and send them out to everybody. I can even get my brother, who is currently going to a cartooning college in New Jersey, to make us a great cover. Or maybe, we could use the t-shirt design for a cover. I'd need money from people- if I get enough interest in this, I'll go some time before the concert to see how much this could end up costing, and people can sign up and give me money at the show, or e-mail me and send me the money to get them.
