I watched the Crossing guard the other night for the first time. Great movie, I expect great things from Sean Penn. He is having quite a year, isn't he? I rewound the movie twice to listen to Jewel, perfect choice by Mr Penn, perfect sound by Jewel. I would like to see everyone from the Thursday show donate $15. I know some can't, but maybe others can make up for it. Has anyone noticed that the general quality of music is getting alot better. I prefer you to re-read all of this post, BUT AT THE VERY LEAST read down to and including where I write "7/10/96 READ THIS!!!!....", it explains a little RSVP procedure for this. Remember, we need NAMES with RSVPs. Due to lighter than expected responses for Friday's show, we are able to open up to you the ability to attend BOTH JewelStock shows. We have a little over 100 spots available for Friday. We anticipate those filling QUICKLY with this new opening. We HAVE to limit it ONE guest as we fully expect 50+ list-members to RSVP themselves and their guest, as almost ALL list-members going Thursday have a guest coming. (No flames here please on the ONE guest, this was decided upon at the meeting with Lenedra on June 29th, and it HAS to stick for logistical reasons...you'd understand if you were arranging these shows) Also remember Friday will cost $15 to get in. . ************************************ 7/10/96 READ THIS!!!!: To RSVP for the Friday show whether or not you are going to Thursday's show, just RSVP for Friday, no need to mention you are going Thursday, you've ALREADY done that. Just treat this as it is, a NEW RSVP, same rules apply as below, ONE guest maximum and we NEED names!! Any QUESTIONS, EMAIL me (Mike Connell) or Akira. Akira will try to get out confirmations as soon as he can, but please remember, this takes time. . ************************************ The following re-posted info is for the benefit of those JewelStock attendees who may not be able to access the JewelStock Website. It will be re-posted every 3 days or so. If you can access the site, I suggest you do also, there is some more info on the site...maps, photos etc. The URL, username and password for the site is below. For info on show/date specifics, see the post entitled "JEWELSTOCK: Shows" . ------------------------------------------ To attend either show you MUST be a subscriber to either the jewel@smoe.org mailing list or it's digest form. All prospective attendees must have re-RSVP'd/RSVP'd on Sunday June 30th or after. Previous RSVPs (those sent from early June to about June 27th) must be redone! This is due to the new "one guest only per list member" rule, and the inclusion of a Friday show. RSVP Procedures: read and please FOLLOW TO THE LETTER! 1) You MUST RSVP to Akira at chi3@ix.netcom.com (DO NOT RSVP TO ME!) In the subject PLEASE put JewelStock: re-RSVP -or- JewelStock: RSVP This is to make it easier for Akira to spot re-RSVPs/RSVPs 2) You can RSVP yourself only -or- you and only ONE guest maximum 3) You can now RSVP for either or both show(s) [new...7/10/96] 4) You MUST supply your first and last name, AND the first and last name of your guest in one of the following scenarios: a] If you know both names when you RSVP (I know that sounds odd), all is OK, do it b] If you want to bring a guest and do not know which one yet (i.e. cannot supply a name), then RSVP for two, but get us/Akira the name ASAP!!! c] If you cannot get us the name of the guest until the day of the show(s), either you must arrive at the door WITH the guest, or tell us the guests' name at the venue (if the guest may be arriving seperate from you) 4) If you and/or your guest must cancel, contact Akira ASAP. We likely will need the seat(s) In other words, no one gets in without us having their name, or at least arriving at the door with the named list member. So, in a nutshell: To RSVP you must supply us with: 1) The show(s) of your choice 2) Your full name 3) Your guests' full name (following the scenarios above) and you must re-RSVP ONLY to Akira chi3@ix.netcom.com Any QUESTIONS on RSVP Procedures, please contact me or Akira, Mike Connell ducksoup@spectra.net 7/10/96 - -- |~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| | | | JewelStock Online is at | | | | http://www.theartof.com/jewelstock | | | | username = angel | | password = racecar | | | |~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| ------------------------------ From: Mike Connell Date: Wed, 10 Jul 1996 13:24:47 -0400 Subject: JEWELSTOCK: Frequently Asked Questions - Part 1 of 2 . READ! "JEWELSTOCK: Directions and Lodging" or "JEWELSTOCK: Shows" EMAILs to the list that arrived with this post, please EMAIL me. All of these posts will be re-submitted to the list every 3 days or so as to benefit those list members who plan to attend JewelStock but cannot access the Web Site. (The Web Site URL etc is shown at the bottom of this post) The following questions have been asked in one form or another by list members: Q. What is JewelStock? A: In response to a list members request, Jewel agreed to give a private show/concert for Jewel mailing list members. Lenedra and Jewel via Hiranya made a post about it in early June and the list has not been the same since. One of Hiranya's stipulations was that the list members had to pretty much handle all the arrangements. A few of us stepped forward to do just that. As it turns out, some of the arrangements were handled by Lenedra, but us organizers still had and have puhlenty to do. It is a private party/concert for the members of this list (and selected guests) that can make it. It is being held near where she is recording her next hit album/CD. It is not open to the general public and it is free to all list members and their guests. There is a second show on the next night which is partially open to the public and is not free, as to benefit the venue hosting the event. Q: When are these shows? What time are they? Anyone else playing? A: See the post to the list entitled "JEWELSTOCK: Shows" Q: Where is JewelStock? Do I have to sleep in my car? Any places to stay there? A: The shows are in Bearsville NY, which is about 1.5 miles west of downtown Woodstock (you may have heard of that town). Both towns are about 90 minutes north of New York City. The New York State Thruway (Route 87) runs North/South quite close to Woodstock, you'll get off Exit #20 (Kingston exit). For more info on how to get there, lodging and some other tidbits, see the post to the list entitled "JEWELSTOCK: Directions & Lodging" Q: I wanna go! How do I reserve my seat (RSVP) for JewelStock? A: You must contact Akira ASAP. See the post to the list entitled "JEWELSTOCK: RSVP Procedures" Q: Are tee-shirts being made? How can I get one? Are any other souvenirs going to be sold there? A: A list member is making some event tee-shirts. They will be sold at the first concert and will be available by mail order afterwards. You can contact Phil, the Tee-Shirt Maven at pjk@cybercom.net. Also, other Jewel merchandise will be available at both shows. Q: Anything else going on in town those days? A: We have gotten permission to congregate behind the venue as early as 2:00pm the day of both shows to meet each other, have fun and have jam sessions for you musicians out there. (Jammers, there won't be any electrical hookups allowed, this will just be an acoustic event exclusively.) The town of Woodstock is full of shops, museums and eateries that should keep you busy for most of the day. The current rumour is that Elvis is in town recording too, so you may just spot him at a burger joint. (Jewel and Elvis singing "Suspicious Minds" together on stage in Bearsville!?! A mere mortal human could not handle it.) The walk from downtown Woodstock to the venue is less than two miles. Please note: contrary to a post on the list last week, there is not a Renaissance Fair in Woodstock those two days, the fair was on May 18th and 19th. Q: You mentioned jam sessions. I'm a musician and play a mean harmonica and have one of those "cybmals on the knees" gadgets. Can I play with Jewel on stage during a song or two? A: Nope. Q: What's happening after the show? A: We've been told that Jewel plans to hang. Not sure on how long the venue may remain open afterwards, but if we are there and spending $$$ at the concession stand, who knows? Q: What can you tell me about the venue? How's the parking situation there? A: Well, let's see...it's air conditioned, so you won't sweat. There's a concession stand, so you won't starve. There will be official JewelStock tee-shirts for sale and there will be other Jewel merchandise for sale too, so you won't leave with money in your pocket ;-) There is alot of parking at the venue, but park way in the back and to the east of the venue, so you won't get towed. There is some parking quite near the venue behind a restaurant, but don't park there, it's for restaraunt workers. Do not park in front of the venue (between Route 212 and the venue), that is for patrons of the restaurants there. Even if you plan on eating there, please park out back leaving the front parking for the other patrons. By the way, there are two fancy-schmancy restaurants, a Chinese restaurant and a bar/grill/restaurant right there next to the venue, so you should not go hungry during the jam sessions/meetings. end of part 1 of 2 see part 2 of 2 Mike Connell ducksoup@spectra.net - -- |~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| | | | JewelStock Online is at | | | | http://www.theartof.com/jewelstock | | | | username = angel | | password = racecar | | | |~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| ------------------------------ From: Mike Connell Date: Wed, 10 Jul 1996 13:26:09 -0400 Subject: JEWELSTOCK: Frequently Asked Questions - Part 2 of 2 . JewelStock Frequently Asked Questions . ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ . part 2 of 2 Q: OK, I LOVE to shoot pictures. Can I, huh, puh-leeese can I? A: Accordion to Hiranya, here's the rules on that right now, they may change: 1.You CAN shoot pictures BEFORE the show. 2.You cannot shoot during the show...but that may change. If it does change, there will be NO FLASH allowed and no moving around to get different angles. The "no moving around" is due to the disruption factor, and the potential for interference with the recording crew(s). 3.You CAN shoot pictures AFTER the show. Q: How about video? Can I bring my video camera in? A: Nope. Q: You mentioned recording crew(s), what's that all about? A: Bearsville Studios is going to record both shows, from start to finish. A DAT copy will be given to an already chosen member of the Jewel mailing-list who will then provide various formats to the tape trees that will form due to this show. Expect the highest quality tape ever for a Jewel tree. They may also record a video of the shows, or permission may be given to an already chosen member of the list. Then again, there might not be a video. If filmed, copies of that would be treed out also. Info on obtaining tape copies will be posted on the mailing list when the trees are set up. Q: It's nice that Bearsville Studios is doing this, but I want my own personal recorded tape. It would bring my collection of Jewel tapes to 5,000 even. Can I bring my machine in and tape it too? A: Nope, you'll have to wait to order a treed copy in order to pop the cork on having #5,000. Hiranya made a post to the list on July 1st saying "nope".....well, it wasn't "nope" but it all came out to say no taping would be allowed. Q: What about the Official Photographer for the show? I shot that picture of the Army dudes raising that flag at Iwo Jima, won some awards and everything for that one, can I do the show officially? A: First of all pal, it was the Marines. Lenedra and Jewel are waiting to hear from a person that they want to do the shoot. If this person can go to the show, he/she will do it. If not...well, stay tuned...Hiranya would let us know and we'll see what happens. Q: I wanna give Jewel a present at the show, when would be a good time? A: Via Hiranya, here are Jewel's current thoughts on it: "Jewel is given a lot of gifts which she enjoys and appreciates. However she wonders sometimes about gift giving to celebrities. "Stars" are given so many gifts, freebies, favors etc and they are sometimes the people who least need it." "She doesn't want to ask people to quit giving things to her because she knows it also brings them pleasure, but she would like to ask people to notice others who need gifts (time, compliments, hugs, kindness, friendship, flowers etc) and sometimes give to them instead, or also, or on her behalf." "She would love letters that said "to thank you for your music I gave X person XXX..." It would really be a wonderful gift to her to have fans begin really taking care of each other. Since this list is way ahead on this count it won't be hard for us!" - Hiranya 7/5/96 Q: Hey, you guys seem kinda busy with all of this stuff. Anything I can do to help? A: Well, we have most of the needs covered right now, but there is one thing others can pitch in to do. Like I said above, permission has been given to congregate at the venue after 2:00pm both days for whatever. Just help make sure the area is cleaned when that all breaks up before the show. Trash cans will be provided. Q: Can I show up early and watch Jewel record in the studio? A: Absolutely not. Do not try to find the studio as it will annoy the studio and jeopardize future private concerts. The studio doesn't have windows and is very secure so there isn't anything to see anyway. Any ruckus would end up disturbing Jewel's recording time and earn you the scorn of your fellow fans! Jewel has assured everybody at the studio that she had the best fans on earth (who aren't rude and disruptive) and she went out on a limb to convince them to allow this event. Remember that any weirdness will reflect directly back on Jewel! - Hiranya 7/1/96 Q: Say, isn't the Baseball Hall of Fame near there? I'm a huge fan and am coming in town a day early. A: Well, it's sort of near there. But it's a good 2 hour drive from Woodstock. I've already responded to 3 folk asking...if you wanna go, EMAIL me for directions and info (I know Cooperstown fairly well) Don't forget New York City is nearby too.
