The set was very short, and I'll let anyone else who was there post the playlist since my memory is only as long as Jewel's performance (about 1 hour). Jewel played alone, and Big Blue was conspicuosly absent. People interupted her *only* about 4 times to ask her to yodel...even AFTER she promised to do so. She played "NTYPFHTACarnivore" and she added a few lines to it, so now the song takes a twist at the end and she becomes the Carnivore...pretty cool. I got booed by several hundred people for being from LA, highlight of my night :) Before the concert I wandered around the fair making sure that no vendors were selling frisbees. Eventually Imet up with Deb, Tom, and Nancy (did I actually remember all 3 names?!) and we talked a bit. Thank God for my Jewel shirt or we would never of recognized each other...can't wait for the Everyday Angels shirt! We talked a bit then went our seperate ways, I tried to find other Angels by calling their names over the PA, but the powers that be wouldn't let me, so I tried my hand at convincing one of the workers at a fair ride who had a loud mike to let me call them out. No dice. Sensing failure I went to get my seat, and I saw some lady with a "F@#! U...I'm sensitive" shirt and asked her if she was on the list, she had no idea what I was talking about. But luck was on my side for sitting just a few spots down were Gerrit and Brendon (spelling don't count!) and they heard me and introduced themselves (Brendon, please email me about those pictures!). Lucky for me they were sitting front row center, so I decided to join them :) Halfway through the concert I almost had to take quick action as an object was being hurled on stage! Luckily I didn't have to sacrifice my body to deflect a frisbee as it was just a stuffed animal and didn't even make it onto stage. Threat over I resumed enjoying Jewel's music, but still remaining ever vigilant for another frisbee... I never did run into Igor, although I did everything short of running through the streets screaming, "Eeeeee-gooooorrr!" (and I *almost* did this, but decided it wasn't worth the risk of security thinking I was some Frankenstein-nut and throwing me out, like last time). That's all for now, it was nice meeting all you Angels, look forward to meeting the rest at Jewelstock. Oh yeah, 1 final comment: If anyone has the lyrics to "Flower" could you please post them, Jewel couldn't remember them after Brendon requested it. It was june > the 2nd. did anybody go? I went to it, it was called the Edge birthday bash, for one of the radio stations here. (The only one I have found playing WWSYS.) Anyway, she was 2nd in the lineup, after some little band no one had heard of. The Edge had been giving away free tickets to sit out on the lawn (quite far away from the stage) though there were reserved seats closer in, under a roofing. The reserved seats were not even a 20th full... Anyway, the first thing she said when she took the stage was, "Why are you all so far away?" She pointed out that there were several hundred of us and only "like ten security guards" so we should just come on down, which a lot of people did (including myself). Throughout her set she kept asking the security guards to let people a little closer, or let someone on stage, etc. They were getting rather bothered with her, it was pretty obvious :) First she did "Pieces of You" stopping a lot to talk to the crowd. Right before the "faggot" verse she went into some long thing about how if the lead singer from the Cranberries (forget her name) was there, she would be wearing a long white wedding dress, and Keanu Reeves would be following her, carrying the dress to show that he wasn't gay, and then the Cranberries singer would start singing "He's a faggot..." and Jewel made her voice waver and crack like the Cranberries...pretty funny, got a big response from the crowd. The other songs she did were "Daddy," "Angel Standing By," and the friend who was with me tells me she did "Amen" though I really can't remember... She did WWSYS towards the end, and capped it off with speed yodeling (truly a sight to behold! :) She kept getting faster and faster - that was neat. Anyway, in the middle of WWSYS she started making up lyrics about a security guard that wanted everyone to sit down, etc...they rhymed too - I wonder, has anyone else heard her make up lyrics on the spot? They sounded almost too good, like they were planned. *shrug* The friend I went with knew someone who worked at Starplex (where the concert was) that was supposed to be able to get us backstage, but my friend was never able to get in contact with her. That was really disappointing, I was hoping that I could meet Jewel! Some other time, I guess... Later, Zach - -- Zachary X. Seems she's number three on their charts now. Freaky isn't it? Thought she be on top by now. Something entirely and extremely off the subject: you know when you're watching those Saturday morning cartoons and say someone like Yosemite Sam pulls out a huge cannon with the intent to do some major harm to Bugs, but then Bugs flips the cannon around and it instead unloads on Sam, leaving Sam blackened and chard with his hair all frizzled, I was wondering if that's all the cannon can do, why does Sam even bother? You know what I mean? Sam wanted to get rid of Bugs, but he uses this weapon which obviously doesn't do a lot of damage since we then see Sam still running after Bugs in the next scene, still trying to eliminate him. Its weird. And you know in like Duck Tales and stuff, why does Scrooge McDuck wear clothes and get to do everyday human things, but in the background you see sea gulls flying around doing everyday bird things? Did the Smurfs ever get back home after that little time traveling stint they had? Does anyone know if they ever did a crossover with the Snorks? Last question: Smurfs vs. Snorks, all out war. Yeah you got the names right. What was your hurry back to L.A.? Were you running low on the carrot juice? Well we stuck around because Nancy thought that blue VW van parked on the race track was hers. We waited about an hour and a Lola Granola kind of looking girl came with some guy and started to get in it. I can't remember who asked but we asked if it was Jewel's van. The girl replied, "It used to be". I guess she is a close friend of Jewel's. Her name was Phoebe. No, she didn't have long blonde hair and a vacuous stare. A couple of her friends asked her what her job was with Jewel and she yelled back to them manager. Well, I know Lenedra is, so she must be having grandiose dreams as she substituted in for Lenedra who was in New York meeting to set up Jewelstock. Which leads me to Jewelstock and the poor move you made when you left early. The concert being only an hour long you could have burned an hour after the concert(weren't we good enough company) just to meet her. Well, Phoebe directed us to the other side of the stage where there were about twenty people waiting. Two minutes after we walked up to this side of the stage she came out. I stood back as I am not one to add to the stress that performers have to endure and Nancy made her way through the small, small, teeny, tiny crowd. Well to finally wrap this up, Nancy gave her a Tie dye slip like the one she was wearing, she signed one of the white t-shirts that we bought and Nancy asked her if she would sign the guitar I just bought her daughter if we brought it next time we see her. Jewel had recognized Nancy from the other concerts we've hung around afterwards so of course she said yes and they kept talking. Well, the agenda I wanted Nancy to cover was the guitar and whether we should see her at Jewelstock. This was a great reaction. She looked up from signing the t-shirt with a big grin and said, "Is that what they're calling it? How sweet!" So people she is doing the concert. I (or I should say Nancy got it right from her). She said she is going to have a really great band play with her. As long as it's not the band we saw back her up at John Anson Ford. Sorry we won't make Jewelstock now but we're shooting for Alaska. I think VH1 does this purposefully. Perhaps they are trying to get more people to notice Jewel by playing her video after another artists which they feel are similar in some way. People will watch the one video because they like that artist and then they will hear Jewel and will hopefully like it. There are still people out there who have no idea who Jewel is. Very, very few people will be going to both, likely only workers, and not many of those are needed. Seating is now limited due to the benefit show being open partially to the Woodstock community. Sit tight and wait folks, more has to be worked out via Lenedra & Hiranya.
