I'll also stay a few extra days just for fun since i've never been further north than North Carolina. If you want to fly too, there is a cool site at: http://www.ticketmaster.com/spotl/travel/ Yep, it's the big evil people, but hey, for $178 there an back i'm starting to think all those handling fees were worth it. This is Darren K. in San Diego. I really wish I could go to Jewelstock however I'll be stuck in summer school slaving away at Organic Chemistry and Law & Politics, however before my little hell begins, I get to see my favorite angel, Jewel, in concert on the 29th! Woo Hoo. Anyway, let me get to the point of this message. I was at the book store and I saw a music magazine called, "Listen to the Music". It is a CD-ROM which contains reviews, interviews, and etc. On the cd (and on the cover) they have an exclusive interview with Jewel. It isn't of the best quality but it is definately Jewel Kilcher. :) I recommend it to everyone who is a "serious" Jewel fan. The only major problem is that the mag/cd-rom is just as expensive as a cd on sale at a music store. If you love her, you will buy. If you "only" like her, it would be better to save your money for her new album. :) Take care everyone. Since seating is so limited I thought maybe we should make it available to list members first and then if there was any leftover seats, we could make them available to the people that list members wanted to bring. I thought this was a good idea because it would serve the list members best, afterall the concert is supposed to be for list members. Not that I want a rehash of it (I checked the digest archives to see what happened). It's odd. I switched from loose mail to digest a couple days back and then switched back yesterday, and with yesterday's switch, I missed the digest that had the whole MTV thing but I ended up getting the stuff after my own post appeared (after the MTV crap). How fortuitous. I also missed anything that anyone sent me two days ago because of some complications with saving my files before a system wipe occurs later in the summer. If you sent anything to me on the 24th, please resend it, unless I have replied to you. Thank you. While reading through old messages that I have stored (I really should clean that stuff out of my files), I realized that I missed something that told me I missed another thing. It was a fwd by Jon Held from Feb 1st of this year of a post from June of 95 from a guy who drove up from NJ to Northampton, MA to see Jewel and interview her. She played for 90 minutes to 100 people and encored for 45 minutes more. I don't know where she played, but it caught me by surprise reading it just now; how did I miss that info in the post? Maybe Jon posted it because of the number of posts that told of her show on Jan 29 1996 in Northampton (mine included), I don't know. But anyways, I wish I had been here then. I thought the January show was her first one in the area, but that forward proved me wrong. And I am missing the final two or three people of my branch. I know this isn't the original message, and I've taken some out, but I remembered something I saw Sunday. I was in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco walking down the street when a little girl, like between the ages of 3-5, came running by, screaming, with a man following her. I assumed she was simply playing and the follwing her was father. I looked at the other people walking around, and it seemed not to bother them at all- except fr one man who was watching the scene intently. I started to think about it, and realized: How did I know that was her father for sure? The assumptions made by myself and what seemed like nearly everyone else could have let a little girl get kidnapped. I think it is unlikely that it was a kidnapper, as it was the middle of the day in a semi-crowded place, but still, you never know. The fact that almost everyone just stood there and payed no mind is disturbing to me, especially considering how much time people will give to staring at gays and homeless like they are freaks. Maybe a lot of people will like > it. Please don't flame me because I don't care either way. No flames here. Lenedra and I discussed this issue quite a bit today. Remember, a second show is a distinct possibility, if the RSVPs dictate it. Like I said in my one post tonight, we will likely re-RSVP next week, requesting some new info Lenedra wants us to get. With two shows a distinct possibility, we have room for 660 people. Lenedra wants to see how many RSVPs we have by the end of next week, and then evaulate the 2nd show possibility. Right now, with the OLD RSVP list there are 250 people wanting to come, and less than half of them (110 to be exact) are list members and the rest obviously are guests. Now we know many people were waiting until a date was announced before they RSVP, so we also expect both numbers to swell, but likely not past the 660 mark. So sit tight, and re-RSVP next week when we turn on the "go" signal. Mike C. P.S. Also remember, we have a list of who RSVP'd the first go around, if we don't hear someone on that list for re-RSVPing, we will do our best to find out why (out of town, etc) and contact them. We may need help from some of you in a case like that, as some of you know of people in that situation, as I've seen from some recent posts. ------------------------------ From: Sean Hooks Date: Thu, 27 Jun 1996 00:30:22 -0400 (EDT) Subject: My message to Akira Date: 27-Jun-1996 00:29am EST From: Hooks, Sean SHOOKS Dept: STUDENT Tel No: (201)-408-5581 TO: Remote INTERNET Address ( _IN%jewel@smoe.org ) Subject: My message to Akira Date: 27-Jun-1996 00:07am EST From: Hooks, Sean SHOOKS Dept: STUDENT Tel No: (201)-408-5581 TO: Remote INTERNET Address ( _IN%chi3@ix.netcom.com ) Subject: My Jewelstock reservation I am writing to inform you that I will be attending Jewelstock, with one guest. My name is Sean Hooks, I'm from Jersey, and have been a list member since March and a Jewel fan for longer than most of the people on this list(since last April, more than just about anybody on the East Coast). I waited to give you my reservation until now because I was waiting on a confirmed date. Did you expect people to just blindly say they were coming and email you? I don't want to sound like a dick 'cause you guys really have done a great job handling this and posting info as soon as it is available. It's just that when you sent the Jewelstock closed message due to too many people I was taken aback. So I'm making my reservation now so I don't get left out of this event. I wish you luck with all the planning. The people on this list are generally cool but there are a lot of dense people on here too(there are everywhere and I'm not trying to sound like an elitest but most of them are younger fans or people who are on every list by a female artist{Tori, Julianna, Melissa, DiFranco, Lavin, even the detestable Morrissette} and are just a little too into this "We're travellin' a really long way to see this cool concert, let's tell MTV, Z100, Rolling Stone and my friend the internet magnate 'cause we're so fuckin' cool.)I personally was ecstatic to hear that Jewel was doing this for her hardcore fans and that there would be people who would miss the point and cause problems for the organizers of the events(I hope that's not what I'm doing but I'm just expressing my opinions here-by the way Akira, are you male or female?, just curious), again, I'm just writing you to let you know that with a date now, I definitely plan on attending, with one guest, my girlfriend, who I considered not taking because she isn't a big enough fan of Jewel, again, not to sound like I'm mister hardcore fan who's better than the rest of the people on this list, but sorting through a hundred emails to find maybe 20 useful ones that are written with an actual intent in mind gets a bit tedious. I was on the banwagon early and I want my reward( that's me clinging hopelessly to the notion that this world is a fair place) and just don't wanna deal with idiots every now and then. So there, I've said my piece and will step down off the soapbox now. This should be a great event when it actually does come to fruition as an opportunity for real fans to see Jewel in an intimate setting, before I see her opening for Neil at MSG, seeing her at MSG is like a contradictory statement to me, she's getting commercially popular and there's nothing we can do about it and this may be one of my last chances to see her in her most productive and natural environment-the small venue. Whew! And THAT'S why I was so concerned when it seemed as if the guest list was being folded up and put away already before my name was on it. Hope I didn't waste your valuable time with this lengthy message. Good luck with the planning, I guess I'm just one of those cynics who Jewel wants to rob food from and give it to those with faith, well faith and hope suck and do nothing but give you headaches and heartbreak, but I have faith in Jewel and confidence that you and Mike and the other organizers will get this done without offending longwinded stubborn assholes like me and in the most productive and efficient way possible.
