At that show, it seemed like no more than 20 people actually had the CD so I would say very few heard POY. She did the whole Deloris bit and I think everyone laughed including myself (I admit, it was funny) but quieted up as the song progressed. I think that the unfamiliarity with Jewel the artist/person and her music contributed the situation. BTW, when I saw her at the 9:30 club in May, I don't recall her doing the imitation. They would be take home memories for all of us, along with our pics and stuff..But I do agree that serious professional work would have to go into it because I once tried to get t shirts made for a small group of friends and our "cause" and it went belly up because no one really wanted to carry out the heavy duty responsibilty..But I still think it's a great idea, and even though I can't draw past stick figures, I could add my opinions and give help wherever anyone would need it.. This is a new album by an artist I know nothing about named Patty Griffin, called "Living With Ghosts". It's 10 songs of just her with an acoustic guitar, but I find there's still lot of power in the songs. I heard one of the songs being played in a co-worker's office this week and I instantly knew I had to hear the rest of it. I don't find Patty's voice as 3-dimensional or "sweet & innocent" as Jewel's can be, but it's still incredibly strong. Maybe along the lines of Joan Osborne or Patti Rothberg as far as vocal quality goes, but I like Patty's songwriting better. Her music is very melodic and her lyrics paint great pictures. I don't tend to like just any artist who happens to be a female on an acoustic guitar. In fact, many of those albums bore me. Jewel has inspired me to be on the lookout for similar artists, but I'm not much of a fan of Indigo Girls, Nields etc., and I don't find myself drawn to the folk section at record stores. Patty seems to be from Nashville, but this isn't a country album any more than POY. One of the reasons I like Jewel so much is that she has such a distinctive, individual style. Patty's not really doing exactly the same thing as Jewel, but there are enough similarities on this album that I think many Jewel fans would really like it. This one will get my top shelf for a while anyway. ttyl, Dan - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- DAN STARK NEW E-MAIL ADDRESS danstark@mnsi.net NOW IN EFFECT!
