The idea about having a design contest and then using the winner is a good one but an impractical one. You see tee shirt design is not just a matter of coming up with an acceptable drawing and transferring it to a shirt, there are certain criteria that you have to live by or the screen print process simply doesn't work. If we do it that way we will end up with a shirt that looks like what it is..... home made. So................... If you remember back to my original posting I pointed out that I work for a tee shirt company and that I can have a professional artist come up with the design (so it will look dynamite) and we can print them. We have just finished up doing this for the Nanci Griffith newsgroup and they were delighted with the finished shirts. The cost was $15.00 each plus $2.00 p&p and we handle all the details. Basically you would send us a check to cover the cost and we would send out the shirt on receipt. It worked well for Nanci's shirts. I would need a few suggestions as to what the design should be and then we would post it on a web page somewhere for everyone to check out. Send suggestions right away because we will create the design on monday 10th June. Also we would be delighted to do the shirts for the show. As soon as the date is announced we will be ready to print and begin distribution. (How about...."July 29th I WAS THERE!). So that's the deal, if you guys agree we will start work on monday and we could have the first shirts in the mail by the following monday. A few notes, I think the ringers are out. I can get them but they will be a special order and take extra time (nobody keeps 100 of the in stock). My printer could get them but it would mean extra time/money. Also, it seems the general consensus (at least the mail I have gotten) has been to make the shirt something that more people would like (there are several people would have said they would not want a ringer shirt, no one has said the same about a standard T-Shirt.) As for the colors, I have sent an image to James (he will annouce when it is up on the web page) with the three colors I was looking at. The Natural (beige) color is my personal favorite, it is a nice neutral color and I don't think anyone would not buy a shirt because it is that color. It is also easier to print on and thus would be cheaper. As for the designs, I really like Andy's wrap around big blue. Unfortunately this would have to be printed on a special kind of press and would require a minimum order of several hundred shirts plus would raise the cost per shirt. Big blue is a very nice design because it can be recreate using three or four spot colors easily. As for pictures remember we will need an original photgraph to go from. Not something printed or pulled of the web. Once the design is decided, I am going to take orders as soon as I get 50 orders I am going to have 100 shirts printed. After that I can get more shirts printed (the printer will hold the screen) in lots as small as 12. I will try to bring a large number to the concert for people who want them there. Oh yeah any shirt size over XL is an going to be an extra $1.75 the base price with shipping should be about $12 depending on the final design. Talk to you later. pjk - -- "I weep for the death of the spirit and the soul." - Tom Servo ------------------------------ From: "Ken Winchenbach" Date: Fri, 7 Jun 1996 16:36:14 +0000 Subject: Toad The Wet Sprocket (NJC) I am desperately looking for some help. I want to get my best man something for the wedding. I know he has always told me that he wants to get some Toad The Wet Sprocket bootlegs. And I have slacked off and never gotten around to getting some for him. So, I'm looking for someone with several Toad concerts, who would be willing to send me copies ASAP. I don't have time to make a trade, or send blanks, so this person would have to be willing to take a check for their effort. I never pay money for concerts, so the check would just be for expenses, tapes and postage. I'm hoping to get about 3 tapes of stuff. If you meet the above criteria and can make and send me the tapes by Monday or Tuesday... Thank You. I don't know how much I'll be able to check my mail this weekend, so if you really want to do it, you could just go ahead and send me the tapes. I'd appreciate it! Being a leaf entails contacting your branch (who will be named later), and either trading them for the Seattle tape, or sending them a blank and return postage. If you are interested in getting this tape, and are not yet a branch, then please read on and follow the sign up instructions. The Tape: It is a complete (well, almost complete) show from the Puss Puss Cafe in Seattle. The date was May 3rd 1995. It's a solo show. The show is fairly good quality for an audience recording. It's marred slightly by the noise of the espresso machine, but that's good for a few laughs. It has quite a few of the non-album songs we've come to love, including a lot of the Rare Angels songs, and a few Innerchange Days songs. And of course, it has stories! Unfortunately the last three songs of the show were lost in an unfortunate accident with a canoe. We don't have those on tape, but instead I substituted versions of those songs from other concerts. The songs are: Comfortably Numb, Deep Water and Chime Bells. So the versions on this tape are not actually from the show, but at least you'll get the idea. I've also included as filler Jewel's new song Carnivore from her first show with the band. I thought everyone who's missing the tour would like to hear her new sound, and hear a new song before the album comes out! Here's the info on the tape. It consists of one 90-minute tape. Puss Puss Cafe, Seattle WA 5/03/95 Side A Side B - -Walk Away -Angel Needs A Ride - -Little Sister -Race Car Driver -Who Will Save Your Soul -God's Gift To Women - -Sometimes It Be That Way -Down At The Bridge - -She Cries -Angel Standing By - -Morning Song -Near You Always - -Cold Song -Tiny Love Spaces - -Pieces Of You -Comfortably Numb* - -I'm Sensitive -Deep Water* -Chime Bells* Filler: Carnivore The Size: Because of my upcoming committments, I am only able to administer a tree of a certain size. I have ten branches and I have asked them each to make ten copies. That's only 110 people in the tree, which was the size of the Innerchange tree, back before this phenomenal growth of the list. So demand is sure to outrun supply on this tree. My hope is that after these 110 people receive their tape, they will then turn around and take care of the rest of the needy. Either through private trades, adopt-a-newbie deals, or a second tier to the tree. The Deadheads regularly run trees with multiple layers. I prefer not to, because of the loss of sound quality. However, in this case it might not be a bad idea because I could only support a limited amount of branches. Anyway, I leave it up to the rest of you to figure out how to assure that everybody can get a copy. How To Sign Up: Okay, here's the info. Please follow these instructions exactly. The first one hundred who sign-up correctly will be part of the tree. I'm sorry to say that the rest will be on their own. Please don't jam the list up with requests for the tape. Privately email some members of the tree once it gets going, or suggest a method to everybody for more tapes to be spread. To sign up, please send me the following information. Send it in an email message with the subject heading Seattle Leaf. If that is not the subject, you won't be signed up. If the info is not complete, you won't be signed up. I'm not trying to be the Tape Nazi, it's just that my filtering software won't work unless things work this way, and I don't feel like wading through hundreds of messages. 1. Name 2. E-mail address 3. State or Country That's it. Send me that info, and I will send you back a message as soon as I can telling you whether you're on the tree or not. Please don't send more than one sign up. Once I create the tree structure, I will post it on the list and you can find out who your branch is. that's all for now... ---------K e n---------- <> walden@nh.ultranet.com http://www.nh.ultranet.com/~wink/ "You must live as you think, or sooner or later you will think as you live." ---------K e n---------- <> walden@nh.ultranet.com http://www.nh.ultranet.com/~wink/ "You must live as you think, or sooner or later you will think as you live." ------------------------------ From: teffta@crypt.erie.ge.com (Andrew R. What causes that? The wraparound or the colors? It doesn't need to seamlessly wrap around. Nobody's really going to see much under the arm anyway. And I would expect the guitar (in any design containing it) to be drawn out in maybe black, white, and a couple shades of blue, not photo-rendered. If we end up with a big blue design I think it would be worthwhile for someone to buy a couple boxes of stick-on stud-things for the stars. There was some talk about getting in touch with people who have unsubscribed. I have made the log files for the list available via anonymous ftp on ftp.smoe.org. There are two files, one with just the unsub requests, and another with all requests. The log entries look like: Log:Jan 02 04:08:07 jane majordomo[1736] {pbarr@deltanet.com (Paul Barr)} unsubcribe jewel pbarr@deltanet.com (Paul Barr) These are the log files: - -rw-r--r-- 1 root daemon 474456 Jun 7 16:45 jewel-people.all-requests - -rw-r--r-- 1 root daemon 167605 Jun 7 16:45 jewel-people.unsub If someone else has the time to write a script to reduce this to just email addresses & check to see if they are actually on the list now, that'd be great (keep in mind that alot of the unsub requests in the log are people switching from regular to digest). If noone can do it, I'll try to do it before Wednesday. Someone tried to send the whole subscriber list out to the list, but it was stopped by majordomo because it was too long. Since people can request the information themselves, I didn't approve it for distribution. I belive I saw instructions for requesting the subscriber lists posted recently. Otherwise you can request help from majordomo@smoe.org. I also never approve large binary files. Jewel is recording there starting June 18th and Hiranya said she will do it "NOT on a weekend", LATE NIGHT and after a day of recording. Now, the MOST IMPORTANT thing we need to do is find out exactly how long she will be recording. If it takes a month, we only have 16 possible days to work with (Monday thru Thursday times 4). We need MUCH MORE info from Hiranya before anything concrete is set. Bill (closest to Woodstock?), Akira and I have already volunteered hands-on planning, and I feel we can make this work, but it may take either a MEETING (very hard to do) or CONFERENCE CALLS on the phone (very easy to do) because this is going to be very difficult to do using only EMAILs. So, anyone seriously wanting to help, contact either Bill, Akira or me by EMAIL, (giving your phone #) so we can make steady progress.
