I get the impression that there isn't many listers from the Cincinnati area. Could I be the only one? At any rate. If it's anywhere near here and I can get off work, you bet I'd be there. I'm sure Hiranya didn't send the original message to anyone but this list. Now all we have to do is not inform our friends who aren't on the list. Don't forward the message to other lists (like the Tori Amos one). This way we don't upset anyone who joins the list because they truely like Jewel and her music. That's what I think anyway. Shouldn't it be more central or is her fan base that concentrated on the west coast? I hereby offer my home as the place. :) I could build a stage for her in my backyard. She can stay there overnight. I'll cook her a few gourmet meals (ok, I'll purchase them since I can't cook). The listers would have to go about 20+ miles for hotels, but they would be fairly inexpensive. She couldn't surf, but I do have an above ground pool. The "when" will be dictated by exactly when she is doing the recording. We can each only hope that it occurs during the time we can make it! :-) As for the day of the week though, a Friday will be easiest for those of us who have jobs, since we would probably only have to take friday off. Any other weekday would generally require two days off or a late-night drive home (and the resulting uselessness at work the next day). But it's a lot easier to get the venue on an off-day, and Friday might interfere with Jewel's own weekend plans. As for taping -- this may an ideal opportunity to get an excellent-quality audio recording. But has anyone thought of videotaping it as well? Not just the singing itself but as much of the list members as you want to fill up a 2 hour tape. Then in 20 years you can sell it to someone making a documentary on Jewel's career. heh heh heh. I agree that it would be wonderful to proffessionally record this event so that other listmembers unable to attend could be provided with a tape. Not to mention a great remembrance for those who do attend. I've volunteered to bring multiple proffessional DAT recorders and any equipment needed to achieve this. I've mixed and recorded live performances for a living for the past 20 years and would enjoy doing this one gratis. and Dan Stark(Hi Dan!) mentioned: <> I'd also be happy to volunteer to do this as well, should it be needed. AmyJo and I live in CT (outside Hartford) and would be willing to show up a day or two early to help technically coordinate. Woodstock is a town full of musical & technical talent, so all I adress may be unnessessary. But in case these are problems, I'm willing to solve them. I've also been discussing with Dan S circulating some of the DAT recordings of Jewel that I currently have. The first one will probably be the 2nd band gig from John Anson Ford Theater which is a wonderful recording. I also have the notorious Dylan warmups & duets from April as well as a few others. I havent the time to be a dubbing site but Dan is helping me coordinate something for the very near future. Stay tuned for details... Since Jewel doesn't want it on a weekend it will make it alittle tougher for the people out of the area to show..but I'm sure it will be worth it. I could find a club that would take the gig on a Monday or Tuesday night. Most clubs are slow at that time of the week. Maybe around July 15 or 16th or the following week 22 or 23. I would need a list of people from this list that are commented on coming to Woodstock or a area real close to there. I dunno, it sounds like a good offer to me..... For those of you unfamiliar with the artist Happy Rhodes, this list actually started as an offshoot of her mailing list (ecto). Happy herself is going to be playing in Woodstock soon--but I'm not sure of the exact dates. It would be really really super cool if we could arrange the Jewel concert to be around the same time. Happy has played before in Woodstock at a place called Joyous Lake (it's a bar I guess). It might be worth checking out as a possible venue for Jewel. If we could get Jewel to play near the same time as Happy's show, I would definitely be there! Hi Angels, I can't believe Jewel is going to perform a concert just for us! Like the rest of you I've been reading the posts over the past couple of days and I agree with duff that people have to start planing this thing in order to make it a reality. Here are my thoughts of what need to be done: 1) First we have to vote on a date for the concert. Obviously if Jewel has a preference than she just sets a date and we show up, but in Hiranya's original message it sounded like we have some sort of choice in the matter. From what I understand, duff is currently handling voting at tjtalken@aol.com so everyone should e-mail her with their vote by June 14th. 2) Secondly we have to figure out how many people will be able and willing to attend so that we know what size of venue we are talking about. Bill at billsa3@aol.com has already posted that he would be willing to accept e-mails for this purpose and if he doesn't want to then I can set up a special e-mail address for people to sign up for the concert. We should set up a deadline for the sign up and after the deadline Bill or I can post a list with the names of everyone who signed up. If someones name is missing then they can e-mail Bill and he will add it to the list and a week later a final list can be posted. 3) Third we need someone in the woodstock area to check out venues (I believe another Bill has already agreed to do this). The person can check out prices for different size venues and when we have selected a date and know exactly how many people are going then we can reserve the venue and our dream will become a reality!!! Of course everything has to be approved by Jewel and her management. Then after a time, place, date, etc... has all been taken care of we can worry about everything else - -car pools - -getting t-shirts done before concerts - -recording it - -etc... So, those are my ideas. If anyone has any suggestions, objections, or comments please write me bswider@aol.com. If I get enough positive responses than I can add more details to my little plan. Talk to ya all later. Bill Swiderski ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V1 #252 ***************************
