An electric guitar does not mean she is trying to be something everyone likes. Lots of people play acoustic AND electric. And I like what she did with the songs she played electric guitar on. > I am woried. I love her music, but if she sells out like everyone > else...that is not cool. Not everybody sells out and it doesn't seem like you know what the term really means...she is still doing what she really want sto do with her music and regardless of wether you like it, or I like it, I still commend her for having the guts to change a little. She is moving ahead instead of hanging on to what she's already done (ie - living in the past). If every song she did sounded like WWSYS or if she yodeled all the time, that might be a bit closer to selling out. And even if she did, Jewel is not God. And I wouldn't hold it against her for doing it because she has to make a living, too. > Of course I want her to succeed, but I think I will miss the days when > I could stand six feet from her in a club that holds a hundred. You and me both. I think that's what bothers you, not that she is "selling out". And that seems very selfish. I am glad she is sucessful and soon I'll be able to say I saw her play "Way back when, before most people knew who she was". But obviously tons of planning would need to occur. Is anyone familiar with the Woodstock area? There would be all kinds of crazy questions about selling tickets and keeping it limited to list members. And also making sure that people don't join the list just for this one show and then unsub. I am not familiar with the Woodstock area at all, but if I can help at all with planning, I'd like to be involved. Also, would we need to sell "tickets" in advance to figure out how many would attend? And i guess we would need to check into group rates at hotels or motels if we reserved a block of rooms. Are there motles around Woodstock? I am so psyched! I guess we would be able to tape the show without any hassles. :) If I can be of help at all, please let me know! peace, dave diciccda@saber.udayton.edu ------------------------------ From: diciccda@saber.udayton.edu Date: Thu, 6 Jun 1996 20:28:01 -0400 Subject: Jewel Mag/CD Rom I looked around today at at least 5 different bookstores and newsstands that are usually well stocked, but i did not see anything with jewel The current issue of "Blender" has Pamela Lee If anyone has any more info on a new jewel cd rom, it would be much appreciated peace, dave ------------------------------ From: VChesnutt@aol.com Date: Thu, 6 Jun 1996 20:32:40 -0400 Subject: Jewel members only show It's actually a reality!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Went out and bought the CD yesterday, and good grief do I think it's cool. I'm even considering going to the BFD III show next Friday in Mtn. View, CA, specifically to see Jewel perform (although I'm also a fan of Garbage, who will also be playing there). I dunno tho, I'm seeing Alanis on Friday and Saturday, and then I got Giants tix for Monday, and Natalie Merchant tix the following Saturday. Boy would that be a busy schedule. Hey, can anyone tell me if Jewel is still playing reasonably small venues? I would love to see her when she comes around to play a smaller venue than, say, a 10,000 person amphitheater, because there's more of a sense of intimacy between the performer and the audience that way. I'm definitely gonna go catch her when she comes around next (especially if I end up missing the Mtn. View show). Welp, that's it for me.
