My mail box was empty two weeks ago. Now I am considering hiring a personal secretary to handle the influx of Jewel specific mail from this list. I love it. About 100 or so messages a day. All I can say about Jewel's performance on Leno was that I am sure that it was many orders of magnitude better to be there in the studio. I don't think that the bass was picked up and broadcast very well. Without getting technical, I think it was too low for the broadcasting bandwidth. Kind of like the telephone, if you know what I mean (if you don't and would like to learn more, send some email). There is just something about standing 10 feet away from her while she is performing. I feel bad for anyone who has not seen a live show (those that don't involve frisbees anyway). I was never much of a Jay Leno fan, and now I know why. He could have done a little more research, so he could come up with something better than "Can you yodel?" And then, she got less camera time than the two person graduating class from South Dakota. Needless to say I was a bit perturbed. But, something is better than nothing I suppose. About that T-Shirt thing. I say Big Blue on Black. I have an RDT shirt from years ago. Haven't seen too many of them for quite awhile. It's has a very nice hand-drawn picture of Tori's face on the front and on the back it says: REALLY DEEP THOUGHTS really-deep-thoughts@gradient.cis.upenn.edu Only on the Internet If I remember correctly, they had white ones and grey ones. Mine's white. I lurked on rmta for a little while before Tori's Toronto concerts, and was surprised to find that they had done up shirts. They're pretty good, too. I think Rantz Hosely (Tori's friend and the guy who designed Tori's tour program) designed the shirts. I think all it really needs is one really entrepeneurial person with a lot of drive and organizational skills and one good artist to make it work really well. I'm all for the shirts, but I'm only going to order one for myself if I'm not going to feel embarrassed wearing it in public. I don't personally like the idea of "wings sprouting out" or whatever. I'm also not big on the idea of lime green, but I do love emerald green and navy blue. I *love* the idea of having some selected lyrics on the shirt. One of my favourites: "I'm sorry that Jesus died for my sins/I swear to God it won't happen again!" A couple of thoughts: 1. As someone has mentioned, we should clear this with Jewel's management. 2. The price to members should cover complimentary shirts for the designer of the shirt, the organizer, our esteemed list-owner Jeff Wasilko, and perhaps a few for Jewel and her management: definitely for Jewel, Lenedra, and our very own Hiranya. Wow, I'm amazed at all the people coming out of the woodwork on this t-shirt thread! This really seems to be bringing out all the lurkers! James has offered web space for designs this is a good start. Tomorrow I am going to talk to a printer I know (I have experience in offset printing, design, and getting shirts made for other groups). My plan is to keep it under $12 including shipping. I am also trying to contact Atlantic about the feasibilty/legality of using Jewel's picture and/or lyrics. Designs - we will accept designs until 6/13. They should be sent to James.Judd@Eng.Auburn.EDU Things to remember about your designs 1) Pictures or artwork (other than line art) need to be from originals NOT other printed material. If you attempt to scan an image printed through a screen and print it again you would get a moire pattern. They will need to be TIFF's or EPS's (GIF/JPEG are too low res) as they will have to be at least 150 dpi at final size. 2) It will have to evetually either be drawn in a program such as Illustrator or done as camera ready artwork. 3) It such include "jewel@smoe.org" and "Everyday Angels" since that is why it is being made. 4) Don't just send ideas to James send only GIFs or JPEG. my suggestion is to make your designs in program such as Illustrator (have you guessed what I use yet) where they can be converted to a GIF or JPEG to be posted to the internet. I would suggest GIF's since not all browsers support inline JPEG's. 5) Don't worry if you can't get a picture scanned. Make a rough design and explain what the actual picture would be. Then if you design goes over I can always get the picture scanned and redo the design for printing. 6) Keep it simple, each color on each side is another screen, another pass, and more ink which adds up to more money. I suugest no more than 4 colors per side. Do not use a full color picture (it would have to be seperated into four colors which is extra money and time alot more than 4 spot colors) I like Carter's design but Big Blue would have to be seperated (plus white would be a spot since we are printing on a dark base). Voting - voting will take place after all designs are in and vote will be sent to an as yet undetermined address and we will vote until 6/20 after that we can go to print. I will call for votes when we are ready. We will vote on 1) Shirt color 2) Shirt style 3) Design Getting the shirt - once the design has been decided I will take preliminary orders to get an idea how many shirts to order and what sizes to start with. After I get the first set of shirts printing I will take reserve shirt by email, but will send them upon receipt of a Money Order!! (I do not intend to take checks, not that I don't trust you) you can get a MO at most banks or even the Post Office All in all I expect to be able to get these shirts done and being mailed out by July. One angel made some shirts for individuals earlier. I'll let him/her remain anonymous from this end. The design was the blue wing (like on PoY cover) and the Green lettering for Jewel. All on the front. It was pretty good. I made one for myself. Some may have seen it in Santa Cruz. It turned out horribly but I still like the idea. Front: God's Gift (I envision 70's style letters, kinda like Jackson 5 cartoon, although mine weren't anything like that. I am up for different lettering suggestions.) and on the back, my personal mantra: life love music -----x------ jewel which some might recognize from an old .sig of mine. This one seems real low budget to produce. Should go for $6 or 7. Another idea I had (keep in mind that these ideas were before there were ANY shirts available...except for maybe the I'm sensitive ones.): Simple Pencil Drawing of an angel. (Kinda like Lennon's self-portrait that's on the Imagine soundtrack ccover (at least stylistically)) And Everyday vertically with Angels coming off the A. I was divided on this idea. I liked the angel but the lettering didn't seem quite right. My physical artistic ability is very poor. Perhaps someone else could take these and run. Let me add that I like my mantra on the back of everyshirt I've made a/o considered making. And I guess we should add "jewel@smoe.org" or another info request address. (Aren't they usually "info@smoe.org" or "info_jewel@smoe.org" or something like that. That might be better than the Jewel@some.org to avoid any postings that might flood thelist even more.) That made sense, right? Add it to the bottom of the mantra, I suppose. Leaving space between the mantra and the address. As for color, I like the big blue idea. On a regular T-shirt (which won't go out of style, unlike the ringers probably will--again). I kinda like the green idea too. My Dambuilders shirt is green with a cheesy kung fu panther on the front. Very cool color. Very cool design. Wings on a guitar...sorry Carter. I think wings would just be confusing. At least for us old folks. (right, james-all of you) You knew I couldn't stay silent for long. I'll be ordering several. I tend to wear them out very quickly. An individuals concept will come together better. 3. Several of Jewel's sketches were on the Atlantic Records sight. I think they were all angels.
