Hi Everyone, I just discovered (and subscribed to) the Jewel Digest 2 weeks ago- the day after I saw Jewel at the Ford Theater in Los Angeles on May 4th! I had seen Jewel on the Lauren Hutton interview show about a month ago. This prompted me to buy her album and, on a whim, I bought tickets to the L.A. show. I had no idea what I was in store for. Needless to say, it was simply unbelievable. I was stunned. I immediately started searching the internet and I found the digest and some info about The Rare Angels and Innerchange Tapes. I sent mail out but haven't gotten any responses. What are the chances of getting a copy from one of you Angels on the list??? (I could trade for blanks, cash, car, house, etc.) It seems increasingly rare to find new music that affects like this, and I would be forever in debt to get chance to hear more of it! I'd be thrilled if anyone could reply with any info. We are sad to see that someone we have regarded as being so precious has become mainstream (or may soon become so). This has been someone who's talents we have treasured and who's efforts we have appreciated more than most people will ever understand. So, for this, we grieve that we are losing something we have held close to our hearts for so long, and we are afraid that she will forget abou the loyal ones who truely love her for herself. (not just good looks, but her genuine talent) This will not happen. Jewel Kilcher is a true, genuine, good person... She knows who started her journey to greatness, and she appreciates US. All of us. So....Don't forget that WE are the ones who started this train, and WE are the caboose. Stay true to yourselves, and to the artist that we have all come to love and cherish.... Jewel Kilcher. Let her be in our prayers, for WE are everyday angels...be careful with Jewel...cause she'd like us to stay that way. \|/ ____ \|/ @~/ ,. \~@ /_( \__/ )_\ \__U_/ Do you hate me, 'Cause I'm Pieces of You? Pieces of You doesn't really do justice to her talent. What really caught my attention was new song I didn't hear her say the name it may have been "Why don't you leave me alone" she played it with the band and had to get Bill(?) to play the second guitar for it. I would really love to find a bootlegs with that song on it. I didn't know she could rock like that. pjk ps. The ponly problem with the show was people yelling during slow serious songs when one guy kept shouting "Yodel for us" and "Play Morning Song" while she was telling a story about someone she knew who killed himself because he was overweight she gave him the finger (Duncan Sheik who opened for Jewel gave the finger to someone who kept saying play freebird). She also told the people talking to go out in the hall if the wanted to keep talking. pps. if some one could settle an argument for me how tall is she. we weren't to close to the stage and the shoes she was wearing had large heels. ------------------------------ From: Sinjin@ecn.com Date: Sun, 19 May 1996 06:48:46 GMT Subject: A buffet of Jewel related topics! - jeweli~1.jpg (0/1) I got some more additions to the Jewel-addict list! 1. If you sang along to the internet concert, you need help! (ok, I'm guilty! 2. If you carry a blue sharpie around with you everywhere you go just in case the off chance you might possibly run into Jewel, I think it's safe to say that you are in fact obsessed. Moving on, I got "Snappy" (which converts VHS tapes into jpegs/gifs/etc.) and I already made several pics of Jewel's performance on Letterman, 120 Minutes, WWSYS video, VH1 Duets (I've got size 10 steel-toed boot marks on my butt from kicking myself for not recording Alternative Nation, Conan O'Brien or Lauren Hutton!), so look for them on a Jewel page near you! If anyone wants a specific scene from any of these tapings let me know and I'll try to capture it. Count on me getting some shots from her upcoming MTV House of Style showing (got 2 VCR's on this one)! Here's an index of the pics I made so far (yes, I know there's no Dave3, Sinjin can't count too!) Important info!: Is there anyway we could get a copy of that pic Jewel keeps talking about with her, Steve, the AK47's, and a whole lotta pot? I know some of ya got connections and that'd be way cool to scan! I got 1 question before I bail: Is the quote from the cover of her PoY album from a poem (either that Jewel or someone else wrote), or is just another great line penned by our favorite Flip Off Artist? I've been too busy w/work and family to read the directions. Sounds like Christmas and men w/directions. I hope this reaches you all. I appreciate the response I've gotten on my first letter. Anyway, I am still "digesting" the "pieces of you" cd. I'm also still patting myself on the back for finding Jewel. Better late than never. I've read through all of the lyrics you've all provided and I am amazed that Jewel is able to write with such apparent ease. She is truly gifted. If I could talk to her, I would ask nothing of her. No demands on her privacy,or her time, I would just say thank you for enhancing my life with your gift. See, music is powerful. Any of you remember in Sunday school, or church how in the old testament, music was used to soothe the king. Its been awhile, but the harp had the power to soothe and heal. Was it King David? Forgive my rambling. I FEEL music. I dont just hear it. It becomes a part of my body. It makes me move to it. Maybe Im wacked out. I'm also selective about who I become "obsessive" (my husbands words) about. Ok, so I've only "known" her for a few wks, but I just know I will enjoy her for many years. I can sing her music to my little girl at bedtime and put her to sleep. How many musicians these days write songs that are appropriate for children. She's 21 and she is genius. The only melodies I know are off the cd "pieces of you", and "race car driver". After reading many of her lyrics from you people, I think I want to hear her song about the "bluer than you blues" (?) and the one about her stepbrother. For those of you who have made it this far, IF I am sending this to the right person, I am going to Phila. on Sunday night. I know a few of you will be there. Please say hello. I will be with my husband. He is 38, brown hair, jeans, maybe shorts if it is as hot as is predicted now, t-shirt, and probably will have a "you are nuts Selena, expression on his face". Barry is 5-11, and just the right weight for his height. I am 34, below shoulder length, unruly blond hair, (I work very very hard at that unruly look), and glasses. Biggish glasses. I am 5-7 and work out religiously so I have kept my girlish figure. :) I will wear a long blue flowered skirt w/sandals and a white lacey vest. Just in case it gets chilly, I will carry my long beige shawl. One of my favorite thrift shop finds. And if you are still with me, and you will be at the Phila show, please please say hello. and pinch me and tell me Im not dreaming. And tell my husband that I am normal. When I saw you say that thing about "Hope her record bombs", it hit me that I don't think that that is the way to feel. I remember reading something about her having to sell 400,000 albums before she starts seeing a penny. I hope her next album does great. If it does she will most likely stop playing small venues and the chances of getting autographs will be slim. That sucks for us but shouldn't we want the best for her. She deserves to be paid and paid well for what she does. It is kind of selfish for us to wish her album to flop. I think she is strong enough to navigate through the fame without sacrificing her dignity and artistic independence. It was my third Jewel show. I heard a lot of stories I hadn't heard before. When I arrived I searched for a fellow angel off of the list. She had given me her discription and I was able to find easily. We spent the entire evening together. I went with two other people who only knew the songs off of POY, and a few others. Since the show they've been pestering me for some of the other material I have. I don't blame them. We all got our free tapes and entered the club. We quickly made it to the stage for the best spots. Duncan Sheik took the stage at about 10:15. Did anyone else on the list think they sounded a lot like Toad The Wet Sproket? Maybe it was just me. I really enjoyed their set and will definately buy the album when it comes out. After Duncan was gone the excitement in the room was easily felt. Jewel came out at about 11:15 or so and opened with "Behind The Wall". She then ran through a bunch of songs before she brought the band out for "Carnivore" which was incredible. I was annoyed with everyone asking her to Yodel throughout the whole set. "Tiny Love Spaces" was a real treat. She also did a geat rendition of "Daddy" with some new lyrics. The only complaints I had were that I thought "Racecar Driver" would've been a lot better without the band backing her up. I was also bummed that she didn't play my fave song: "Sometimes It Be That Way". Oh well. The worst part was that she wouldn't sign autographs!!! I was so mad. The last time I saw her, I got a hug and a cd signed. This time, I got nothing. Zero, zip, zilch. She went out of ehr way to avoid the fans. I guess I can't be mad at her, but I hope she doesn't think that she's too glamorous to hang out with the fans. I don't think that's the case though, because she has hung out with fans on other dates on this tour. I guess I'll have to wait for her HFStival appearence. Incredibly noone noticed her - she kind of nervously bent down in the corner and quickly looked at a book. Then she shyly started walking towards the stage. When she was a couple feet away from me I said "Hi Jewel" - she swung her head up, looked me straight in the eye and sweetly said "Hi". It was incredible! It was as if because I was the first person to recognize her she made an effort to recognize me back. I was inches away from Jewel staring into her beautiful eyes.
