Oh yeah the single WWSYS was released in Australia on the 13th of May with 3 tracks WWSYS, POY and Emily (I love all these but emily is continually floating around my head!!). Please email if you can help :) I hope she does a promo tour in Australia.....I remeber hearing of Tori doing a concert in Sydney when she was less popular in a pub which was fairly small...the reports were along the lines that when Tori started singing the crowd just stopped talking .....I somehow imagine a Jewel concert would be similar Markus (eagerly awaiting a helping Hand) mm42@uow.edu.au ------------------------------ From: Miguel Antonio Gonzalez Date: Fri, 17 May 1996 02:57:02 -0500 Subject: Jewel Has My Sharpie! (No pun intended) I'll get back to the sharpie in a sec, but first off I was very excited to be dead center and 10 people deep in the audience. I'm glad I didn't try and boot the show because I was free to take some photos and enjoy the music much more. How is this for a paradox: I thought Jewel had a rather rough day on the guitar front, and her band wasn't totally in sync at times. Her rendition of my favorite POY track FOOLISH GAMES seemed way overwrought and over the top (sorry, it's the bias I have being brought up in musical theater). Having said that, it was a spirited and wonderful concert which was filled with many great moments from Summertime to the Yodel song. The post-show LifeBeat/Entertainment Weekly Gold Status Award event was cool once all the official photos were taken. Jewel was very accomodating to everyone who approached her, although she seemed a bit overwhelmed. Anyway, her assistant wanted Jewel to keep my blue fine point Sharpie for the evening, so I let Jewel have the pen after taking a photo with her and having her sign both the CD booklet and the SPIN pic (definite framing job on hand). The same thing happened to me last year in Boston, with Lisa Germano taking my blue Sharpie after an appearance at the Cambridge, MA Newbury Comics. On a highend PowerMac with a clean 28.8 connection, the audio stream was very consistent. Not having done this before, I was surprised by the lack of stutters, etc. The quality was cheap AM radio, but it would probably be worth taping under the right conditions. For anyone who missed it or didn't have as good a connection as I did, try connecting again when sane people sleep (ie, Mon-Fri 2-6 am EST). The ability to even attempt these broadcasts on the 'net is pretty impressive (technologically speaking). I run a couple of web servers as a business, and have two on a high bandwidth T1 line. If the archive stays up at Atlantic, and I can find the time and energy, I'll tape it. The bandwidth might make a significant difference. If anyone in the Boston area has an MD digital recorder or decent cassette deck and wants to collaborate, contact me. Enough techie BS. The important thing is the music. This is my first post, and even though I've only been aware of Jewel since catching her on the TNT Oz concert 3-4 months back, I am slowly gaining credentials as a fan. My second live show is tomorrow in Boston and I've got Rare Angels '95 stuck in my head (thanks Neile). The live material is great, IMHO better than POY. If anyone has other sources/tapes (especially if Jewel does non-standard material), please let me know. One last point: if Jewel is doing studio time in Nashville this summer, does that mean a decidedly country slant? I for one hope she adopts a chameleon-like artistic policy of changing her style as quickly as the music industry insiders can stick a label on her. If she can develop a cross-genre (?) fan base, Jewel has a bright future indeed, largely on her own terms. For now, her music is inspiring, and it's been fun following her career, and the obsessed fans on this maillist ;) ... - -- Dennis Harris (ddhaoc@aol.com) (BTW, is the maillist name going to be changed to Everyday Angels?!?) ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V1 #203 ***************************
