Just came out of Atlantic Records' Digital Arena with this to say: W@#$ th* h#@l?! The snippets of Miss Kilcher were beatific as always, but good lord was that a miserable connection! According to the RealAudio program I was averaging a 5% drop-off rate, but on some occasions it rocketed up to 15%! So James, yes I did headbang to the yodeling, but 'twas extremely difficult since my computer kept scrambling the tempo. I'm seeing the chiropractor tomorrow. Anyway, I ran into Tom & Sinjin & James in the Atlantic chat room pre-concert, but I got a little tired of the "how old are you?"'s, "where are you from?"'s and "'Star Trek' RULES!" I was so dehydrated for conversation that I actually asked a guy from Minnesota if his countrymen were pissed off about "Fargo." Ugh, the depths to which I can sink. I asked the commentators a couple of times if they had been killed, as their feed dropped off numerous times. They wondered if it was "wishful thinking" when they finally popped back up. Chopped Liver got his name dropped when he demanded Lenedra bring her daughter to Montana, so I tried to do Rafa a favor by making a request for Puerto Rico (sorry, it didn't work). Ooh, ooh! Speaking of Lenedra, she gave a special hello to all of us List people. One of the commentators said both Lenedra and Jewel were on the List, which I guess isn't ENTIRELY true (or IS it? DUH-Duhhhhh!!!), but I figure Hiranya is close enough. Anyway, we be special. Jewel's show was shorter than I expected. I lost RealAudio entirely for about five minutes, which seems an enormous amount of time considering her performance lasted only a little over an hour. Hmm. Liked the new lyrics to "WWSYS," but she can only work it in for cities with two syllables. She didn't flip off the blue-haired ladies, though she still did an operatic rendition of "I've gone gold! F**k yooouuuu!" I can't review any more of the show since: 1) I wasn't there. 2) The video feed preceded the audio by five seconds, resulting in surreality undreamt of by Dali. 3) My computer speakers suck. I liked Duncan's cover of "Fake Plastic Trees." I'm not sure I can call it a cover because it sounded exactly the same as the original to me, but I liked it anyway (he didn't do it in S.F. *sniff*). Kilcher's Kontinuing Koncert Karma is petering out, my friends! My car has been repaired at sub-moderate cost, but I got the flu yesterday, I have a midterm tomorrow, and a paper due on Monday. Thirteen more days until I can legally imbibe, THEN the Karma shalt be PERMANENT! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Thanks to Aaron Suever for turning my name into a verb ("pulling a Carter") AND a non-proper noun ("Carter-dom"). I may not be conquering the world, but one day you WILL see my face in the dictionary, so help me God! - - Carter, Enemy of RealAudio ------------------------------ From: Chopped Liver Date: Thu, 16 May 1996 21:54:26 -0600 (MDT) Subject: Re: Irving Plaza Concert On Thu, 16 May 1996, James Reach wrote: > Chime Bells > > She may have played Foolish Games. Man, she really lets go on stage! Did you get the video feed? I'm in the university helpdesk all by my self. Had one Pentioum 120 doing the audio, another doing the video and a PowerPC folowing the commentary. Man am I spoiled! Do you think the archived audio will be better quality? I mean, since there probably be as many simultaneous connections . Chopped Liver (Charlie) watkins@selway.umt.edu ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V1 #202 ***************************
