I'm not saying she showed it, but only invertebrates are incapable of feeling anxiety when they are put on display before millions (I believe humans and invertebrates share similar feelings when being pursued by animals with big pointy teeth, however). But does anyone here get nervous when someone they admire is about to do something (sing, interview, get milk licked out of mouth by German Shepherd, etc.) in front of the camera? As in Jewel is somebody you know and for whom you want everything to go flawlessly? I KNOW that Jewel can take care of herself, but my bladder developed self-awareness as Letterman introduced her. Miss Kilcher did just fine, naturally, yet I still have daymares about what COULD have happened in that alternative universe that only I seem to inhabit: - - A heel on one of her shoes breaks. - - A string on Big Blue breaks. - - The strap holding Big Blue breaks. - - Jewel's hair really IS blue. - - Jewel trips on way to microphone (possibly caused by broken heel). - - Voice cracks, wavers, constricts, etc. - - Hair assails her face (remember that one?). - - All of Jewel's pants have been destroyed at the dry cleaner's. - - Audience member throws a chicken at her. - - Audience member throws a pig at her. - - Audience member throws a pirate at her. - - All this happens simultaneously, resulting in a very angry pirate. I'm just getting silly now. But hey, it IS *my* universe. - --- Carter "Paul Kim and I ARE Two Separate People! Honest!" Navarro ------------------------------ From: "Mary K. It's my opinion of course. Without her guitar she'd still have her voice and songwriting ablities. Clapton would not be left with much without his guitar... I would say that I don't know too many people of any age with that intimate a grasp of the human condition, something that seems to come so easy for Jewel. Tori Amos is the same way too, I recall quite fondly, listening to my first Tori interview on Much while ironing (couldn't see the tv) and thinking "I _love_ this woman!". The demand has skyrocketed recently, and I don't want to wear out my tapers (or me). If you would be willing to handle a handful of requests a week to tape the Innerchange Days tapes for people, then let me know. Not that you will actually be making a handful of tapes a week, but that's how many people write to you, and about half of them will eventually send tapes. I am also looking for a replacement for me in the near future. I am going to be moving, and will certainly be off line for a while. So I'm going to need someone who can be the target for all the Innerchange Days requests. It basically entails getting a lot of mail, and forwarding each request to one of the dubbing sites. At least that's how I do it. And taking your fair share of the requests as well. I get maybe five requests a day, although it's hard for me to gauge because I also get requests from my web pages. If would be interested in performing this honorable duty, let me know. I just thought people would be interested to know that the interest in Jewel on teh Net is skyrocketing. I have web pages with lists of all my concert tapes available for trading. And practically the only responses I get from them nowadays are for Jewel tapes. I used to get maybe 1 out of 20 Jewel requests. Now all I get are Jewel and DAve Matthews. It's amazing. There are a lot of people out there looking for Jewel stuff. She's getting big. ---------K e n---------- <> walden@bluefin.net http://www.bluefin.net/~wink/ "You must live as you think, or sooner or later you will think as you live." ------------------------------ From: "Ken Winchenbach" Date: Thu, 25 Apr 1996 14:21:17 +0000 Subject: Re: Tape Trees It's funny, this post is almost exactly like the one I did months and months ago after being on the list a while. Cycles. For all the new people on the list, let me sum up what's been going on with concert tapes and tape trees. The original was Rare Angels, a compilation tape that is distributed not through a tape tree, but rather through an ingenious system of dubbing sites, and which is still available that way (colins@cs.mun.ca). Next came the Innerchange Days tapes, which I ran a tape tree for. Now that the the tree is over, we've adopted the dubbing sites method (walden@bluefin.net). In the works is the new Radio Angels tape which is, I believe, a compilation of songs from radio appearances. Also being worked on is a similar video compilation of her tv appearances. I'm working on that one, and it will be a little longer but we have a list of appearances we're using, and the sources, so now we just have to create a master tape and then work out a tree. I have been contemplating running another tape tree of a concert I have. I've talked to several people on the list about treeing their shows, but things usually fizzle out. So I'll probably just go ahead and do this one, even though it's not a master copy. If anyone has the master (or near-master) copy of Jewel at Seattle 5/3/95 show then please e-mail me and we could arrange to have a better tape tree. If not, I'll probably go ahead and run it with my copy. There has certainly been a pick up in tape trading around here, but it would certainly help if we could get more people taping who are willing to trade and run trees. I've never gotten the chance to tape her, and I don't have very good equipment anyway. If you have nice equipment, tape her any chance you get. That's all I ask of everybody. As for the tape tree experience, I think the Innerchange one went fairly well. I was able to arrange the branches somewhat regionally, although at the time we Jewelites were spread a little too thin to do much. The california Jewelites could certainly meet and exchange tapes, there were a lot of them. Hopefully as the membership increases we'll have more local groups. The available equipment on the list wasn't fantastic. Understandable since this list is coming from a younger, less experienced music crowd. In other words, this isn't the Neil YOung list where people have been taping for thirty years. Give us a half a decade, and we'll have a lot of experienced tapers on here I'm sure. That's my much-too-long blab on tape trees. I'm sure I'll get a million responses saying that you want my tapes, but please confine it to the Innerchange Days tapes. Those I can provide. The Seattle tape I'll probably tree, so there is no need to talk to me about it. I will post to the list several times whenever I run a tree. take care... ---------K e n---------- <> walden@bluefin.net http://www.bluefin.net/~wink/ "You must live as you think, or sooner or later you will think as you live." ------------------------------ From: Joel Chatterson Date: Thu, 25 Apr 1996 11:21:42 -0700 (PDT) Subject: The bootleg guy Dear everybody that wrote me and especially Neile, This is great!
