I think it's called "Blackbird" or at least it starts, "Blackbird singin' in the dead of night/take these broken wings and learn to fly/ all your life/you were always waiting for this moment to arrive...." And I think she even does the little descending key changes in the middle of the song to match (or am I too accustomed to the King's Singers' rendition?). I just had to let you all know (as if you care) that I received the Innerchange Days and Rare Angels tapes yesterday. It only took a week and I was expecting it to take 3 or 4. Thanks Duff. :) Now I can listen to all those songs people talk about that aren't on the POY cd. Well, I didn't write this just to gloat to all those who haven't gotten the tapes yet. I actually have a question too. :) After listing to some of the songs with Steve Poltz (sorry if spelled wrong), I like his voice and style of singing too. He seems to go quite well with Jewel. I'd like to hear more of his stuff. Do the Rugburns have a CD or two out in stores? I guess the catchy little melody > is what caught my attention first. Also it's a pretty simple message in > a nicely done song. The message is basically what everyone's (well maybe > not everyone's, but most) mom always told them. "If you can't say anything > nice... don't say anything at all." Brings back memories of fights between > my sister and me. :) > What first grabbed me about I'm Sensitive, is the way it plays with cliches. It really struck me at the first listen, because in the lyrics she does the unexpected, and champions her sensitivity. I didn't expect her to do that, normally being sensitive would be seen as a fault. But she turns around and demands that she be able to stay that way. She didn't feel the need to act tough or to hide her sensitivity, she showed that it's possible to be sensitive and strong. It sounds like a simple, possibly cheesy song, but when you listen to the lyrics it's very mature and sophisticated. For another take on the I'm Sensitive idea, I also like Pleasure In My Pain from the Innerchange tapes. That's one of my new favorites. ---------K e n---------- <> walden@bluefin.net http://www.bluefin.net/~wink "You must live as you think, or sooner or later you will think as you live." ------------------------------ From: RAVEN Date: Fri, 12 Apr 1996 13:31:58 EST5EDT4,M4.1.0,M10.5.0 Subject: INFO ON GUITAR CHORDS Hey all you musician maniacs, I've noticed a lot of requests for tabs to songs. Dear Jewel-list, To anyone thinking of going to the St. Mary's show... I was working at an archaeological site in Annapolis last summer, and we took a weekend to make a field trip to St. Mary's. Their little college was running a site, digging up Maryland's first capital. Nearby, there's a place called Point Lookout, which was a Civil War prison. If you're a history buff of either early colonial or civil war era sites, it's a neat little area. As for more practical matters, we camped at a state park (where, incidently, the park rangers forgot to charge us when we were given a camping spot). There's an inlet from the Chesapeake Bay there, and a wonderful dock to stargaze from. Anyway, I'm kind of a big fan of Maryland after my 5 weeks there last summer, and St. Mary's is a great place to hang out and sight-see (as long as you don't run over too many fiddler crabs).
