Mention has been made of a few of his songs, and I could go on and on about many myself, from the 60s (Ballad of a Thin Man), 70s (Idiot Wind), 80s (Brownsville Girl), and 90s (Dignity), but this isnt a Dylan mailing list. I heard Jewel singing WWSYS at quarter to ten this morning on VH-1, so I guess an earlier post about her getting more airplay was true. I haven't seen the new MTV remix version I heard about though. Has anyone else? And while I'm here, I have another story to share. I saw Jewel about a month and a half ago, but I was one of the unlucky ones who missed out on a t-shirt. At least I didn't miss her in concert like my envious friend. Anyway, he went home to San Diego for spring break and I told him about the Spreckles show there. He was really hoping to see it and I was hoping to get a t-shirt out of the deal. I was afraid he wasn't going to get a ticket though, 'cuz he was only flying in the day before. Well, it turns out that he could have probably gotten a ticket here in Ann Arbor through ticketmaster before he left, but he was out of luck when he got there. They told him that individual outlets might still have tix left, but he wasn't desperate enough to drive all over San Diego to find them. He went to the theater anyway, in case someone had an extra ticket, and I guess they had a line for people w/o tickets so if any ticketholders didn't show up, they could get in (I'm not clear on this part). My friend was about 15th in line. As the show was about to start, all the people ahead of him got in. But then the DJ guy who was giving out the tix let some of his friends cut in line and they got the last ones! So my friend missed out again. There is a happy ending to this story though (at least for me). To get in to the area where they were selling t-shirts you apparently didn't need a ticket, so my friend picked one up for me (wahoo!). I asked him to get me the cowgirl one, since a few people had mentioned it on the list. I was kinda surprised when I saw it though - it's a somewhat racy drawing of a well-endowed cowgirl with the word Jewel below, maroon on a brown background. Is there a story to this, like did she draw it, or does she have any songs about cowgirls, or is my friend maybe pulling a joke on me with a fake t-shirt??? First we heard that Jewel is opening for Bob Dillion (?). I assumed this was someone who just happened to have a similar name to Bob Dylan, since opening for him would be a big deal. Then we hear that Jewel is in fact opening for Bob Dylan in CT. This is exciting, unless it's a mistake by someone who thinks Bob Dillion is Bob Dylan. Now we hear that Jewell is opening for Bob Dylan. We've already discussed the fact that there is a rap or R&B singer named Jewell (two l's). So maybe people are mistaken, maybe she's opening for Bob. In fact, maybe Jewel is opening for Bob Dillion, and Jewell is opening for Bob Dylan, in which case nothing exciting is happening. It's like an endless universe of possible spelling errors. Does anyone (Hiranya?) know for sure what the deal is? While I appreciate your offer and am envious of your collection, perhaps you didn't read the note on the liner of your Inner Change tape set (or perhaps it doesn't contain the liner since I didn't see you anywhere on the tree). Let me quote: "A non-profit project produced by fans, for fans of Jewel not for sale, please keep it that way!" I (and around a dozen other branches) spun off 4-7 sets (got your note Heather; instructions should already be there) of these tapes each to filter down to fans in a decidedly not-for-profit way. 2 for 1 trades is not non-profit. If you'd be willing to share among fans in the spirit that the Inner Change tapes were generated, just say the word. The tree is always looking for new seeds. bob ------------------------------ From: Dumb Toolie Need a Peanut Combine? Talk to me Date: Thu, 21 Mar 1996 11:01:43 -0500 Subject: What if? But I have broadened my horizons becuase of it. I look forward to learning more about music from this list, it is music that seems to be our common bond here.
